Lenses / Will the 28-300L be upgraded??
« on: September 23, 2013, 10:34:22 PM »
The 28-300L is a unique lens - exceptional range and ok, but not great IQ.

As Canon cycles through it's lenses, any rumors, thoughts, etc about the future of this lens.

Lenses / Any chance Canon will incorporate 1.4x into Great Whites?
« on: August 18, 2013, 04:35:27 PM »
Having used the 200-400 on several trips, I can say that they incorporation of the 1.4 into the lens is a great plus.

I would love to see this in their long lenses, especially 500, 600 and 800.

Don't expect to see this soon, but it would be nice.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / GPS suggestions
« on: July 09, 2013, 04:34:54 AM »
Right now is testing geotag on my iPhone.  I don't need high accuracy but more of a reminder where I was.  Other suggestions to test.   Test of iPhone geotag will done later this week when I get home

EOS Bodies / Pick between two options for the Canon 7D II

Hard choice.  In the end I would go with lower MP (assuming that they are clean) and better S/N and gain FPS.

Software & Accessories / Alternative CC idea
« on: June 22, 2013, 07:22:53 PM »
Let's face it, Adobe will most likely stick with CC.  Though they may modify the program a bit.

Here is my idea for a more photographer friendly program.  Perhaps they will see and use a few ideas.

1.  If you are current CS6 user, you can subscribe to CC at a reasonable charge ($10/month) and stop the monthly fee and continue to use the latest version.  If you want to get back on this program, you need to pay a percent of the monthly fees you skipped (if < 6 months 100% of this monthly fees, else 60-80%).

2.  If you are user of older version of CS6, your monthly fee would be higher (perhaps $15/month with 1-2 year minimum) or you could buy up to the current version.

3.  Anyone else, pay $700 and enter program 1 or pay $20/month and have access only when you subscribe.

This protects current CS6 and older version users but give adobe the income stream they need.

Besides if I only need PS for 12 months, I can rent it for $240 versus buying it for $700.  Good deal for those who need PS for a short period.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Weak LP-e6 battery
« on: June 21, 2013, 07:31:47 PM »
At least I wonder if it is weak.  Battery check on my 5DM3 shows 2, not 3, bars as condition.  Does this mean anything?

Lenses / Which foot for the 200-400?
« on: June 13, 2013, 04:10:48 PM »
I just got the 200-400 and replaced the foot with RRS replacement.  I noticed that there was a mini foot in the trunk.  Is this normal with the new Great Whites?  My 500 is nearing 13 years old (time for photo-bar mitzvah) and only came with one foot.

It seems the new mini foot is even smaller than RRS replacement foot.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Geotagging - best method in LR
« on: June 13, 2013, 12:59:23 PM »

Just curious if anyone does geo tagging of their images which are stored in LR.

I have looked at Canon's solutions and the major drawback is that the GP-E2 (and E1) occupy the hot shoe which limit flash.  i guess with 1Dx and 600EX-RT I could go wireless but not with a 5DM3, if I have the flash off the camera.

Any thought how to do this?   Is the best h/w the canon GP-E2 or should I get a some sort of GPS unit and simply merge location and image in LR.  I don't need to know exact direction, just general location (this park or area of a park).

A not very good solution is to use my iphone in each area of the park but that is awkward and I am sure I would forget.

Software & Accessories / About to start with Focal
« on: June 10, 2013, 01:01:17 AM »

I am about to get Focal Pro (based upon the comments I have read on this forum).

Before I begin the journey, I was wondering if there are any suggestions, tips, hints, etc I should know about.

I will be AFMA 2 1Dx and 5DM3, with mostly zoom lens and few fixed (ranging from 14 to 500).

Canon General / Canon Professional Service - one gripe
« on: June 07, 2013, 07:03:07 PM »
Overall I am very happy with CPS, but I have one gripe about them.  Unlike, what I am told is true for NPS, CPS does not give members priority ordering for new equipment.  Would be nice to get priority access to the newest equipment ..  I would be nice, won't it.

Lenses / New canon patent reported on

Looks interesting but not sure it will make it to market

Lenses / Confirmed sightings of 200-400
« on: May 29, 2013, 01:03:15 PM »
Looking for confirmed sightings of the newest great white.   I am early on the amazon pre-order list (told that the list is rather thin) so maybe I'll get one in early June (I can only hope).  Using $ I had planned for new 600, so I will need to save even more
