I can highly recommend the Manfrotto 410 gearhead with additional Arca-Swiss-plates.

Canon General / Re: What am I doing wrong???
« on: February 25, 2013, 05:27:22 AM »
First try to select a faster shutter speed. But at an aperture from 1.4 you have only a small depth of field.

With many EF 50 mm 1.4 lenses there are problems. A lot of AF system don´t work perfetly, if you put this lens on. Send in the lens for some adjustings.

There are also AF problems with some EF 24-70 2.8 II L and EF 17-40 4 L lenses (only if you select the longest focal lenght that is possible).

EOS Bodies / Re: Canon EOS 7D Mark II Spec List [CR2]
« on: February 19, 2013, 11:36:21 AM »
1. A prototype that is very near to your spec list has 2 cf cards slots.

2. Another prototype that is a little more different has a CF and a SD card slot.

But if I look at the 6D it can be, that Canon puts 2 SD card slots in it.

I personally prefer (1).

If you put the 24-70 2.8 II on the prototype the AF-system works very very fast.

Canon cannot put the same AF-system like the 5D Mark III´s in an 7D Mark II for the mentioned price. So don´t expect it.

If you are a hobby photographer and you want a 5D Mark III or 6D wait and try out the 7D Mark II before or wait for the new big megapixel camera.

I don´t like the power eating WIFI and GPS in an 7D Mark II.

Wait until the 7D Mark II is on the market and decide then if you want it.

For sports the 5D Mark II and 6D is not an option. The 7D is to old and don´t have the best image quality.

Compared to the 350D, 40D, 50D all new APS-C cameras from Canon are cheap plastic junk. Even a lot of 7D´s are not produced very well. I return two of them after changing twice the CF card.

EOS Bodies / Re: Big Megapixel Camera in 2014
« on: February 07, 2013, 04:49:09 AM »
The big megapixel prototype from Canon is outstanding in image quality, a little bit to slow for me, but the bottle neck are some lenses.

The D4X is also a very good camera. If Nikon maybe put the D4X this year on the market, then Canon has to change the plan to update some lenses before or some/many photographers get lost. But the best camera is worthless with lenses that are not up to date.

After my mail to the Canon development department a week ago they are now very hectic and want to accelerate their developments.

Forget all about the shutter counts.

Until now I have done over 1.3 million shutter releases with my 350D (prototype) without any repair.

That´s more shutter releases than with my died first 1Ds Mark III and my died first 5D Mark II together.

Go for the 5D Mark II. I don´t believe that you can get now an cheap 6D.

After a lot of years the lens is not worth to repair it. Better buy a new one.

Lenses / Re: How much would you pay for Canon 24-70 f/2.8 L IS
« on: February 04, 2013, 06:06:34 AM »
I don´t want an IS version. So I am willing to pay nothing for it.

Canon decide against the IS version because the lens was to big and heavy.

A lot of pros want a lightweight 24-70 2.8 lens and thats exactly what they get with the 24-70 2.8 II.

EOS Bodies / Re: Canon Confirms 70D; Future of Semi-Pro DSLR is FF
« on: February 02, 2013, 04:18:28 AM »
I don´t believe that the future of semipro DSLRs is FF.

Semipros who needs a focal lenght from 500 or 600 mm or up don´t have the money to buy the white "big guns".

With an PS-C body they can put a 70-300 mm or 100-400 lens on it for small money.

I highly recommend to buy a APS-C body and a FF body. With an APS-C Body you can forget the teleconverters and get better image quality as with the TC´s.

EOS Bodies / Re: 1DX - The Workhorse?
« on: February 02, 2013, 04:10:49 AM »
I like the 1D X for sports and action, but I miss the image quality and megapixels from the 1Ds Mark III.

If Canon is not able to put this year a 1D Xs on the market and Nikon put the D4X (prototypes are in the field for testing) on the market, than the D4X will be the workhorse for fashion and portrait photographers.

First test shows, that the D4X (or whatever named) have all that I expected from a 1Ds Mark III replacement that Canon don´t put on the market until today.

56
The new designed sensor in the 7D replacement is a big step up in image quality (low and high ISO range). The prototypes in the field also have a new processor in it.

My advice: For all people that look at the 6D wait until the 7D replacement is announced. Maybe the 7D replacement meets your expectations better than the 6D. The 7D replacement will be not a cheap camera because Canon lets you pay for speed, image quality and the features.

I like the 7D replacement to replace my teleconverters with the "top of the line APS-C body".

EOS Bodies / Re: 5D III or 1D IV for sports!
« on: January 31, 2013, 05:18:26 AM »
The 5D Mark III is to slow, but the AF system is a step over the 1D Mark IV AF system. Sometimes in AI Servo mode under komplex lightining conditions the 5D Mark III AF can´t track the subject.

I highly recommend the 1D X for sports.

If you want go a cheaper way buy the 1D Mark IV (for professional use) instead or wait for the 7D Mark II. The 7D Mark II prototype in the field is very fast, but the AF system can´t reach the 1D X AF-system.

If someone say that the 1D X is too big but it behind the EF 1200 and it looks like a toy camera.

EOS Bodies / Re: Canon's Roadmap for 2013 [CR2]
« on: January 28, 2013, 01:36:39 AM »
Wake up Canon: We will have the 7D Mark II now and not in in a few month.

While the Canon are dreaming from Hollywood (expensive video cameras) Nikon is going to bring a D4X on the market and blow the Canon guys away from the professional sector.

60
If Canon don´t release the 7D Mark II in the next month a lot of customers get lost.

The 7D is old and needs an replacement before a 70D is announced.

A new top of the line camera (possible named D4X?) is out for field testing. If Canon don´t put a real replacement for the 1Ds on the market, they lose a lot of pros.
