Canon General / Re: What's your definition of "Pro"?
« on: February 07, 2013, 01:53:26 AM »
I would define a pro photographer as someone who makes all their income from photography.
That said there are photographers who take crappy photos.

Therefore the "pro" means (to me at least)
1: that photography is his/hers income (at least main income)
2: when using the word pro it also describes that you are very skillfull in photography and competitive in your area where you live.

If i was a pro skater it would mean that i make my money sk8ting and that ofcourse means that i attend demanding competitions.. Other wise i would not be pro enough to make money of it.

Sure you can be pro and be bad at photography.. Everyone has their opinion of who is good or not but i would imagine that if you have customers coming in for 45 years your pictures should look somewhat "pro" to keep them happy.

Keep at it.

After some time you will learn to compose your shots better, (for starters that's good)
Also in time you will learn to edit your photos better. The colours pop here but don't look
professional.

Good start.

Reviews / Re: Review - Canon EF 50 f/1.2L
« on: January 12, 2013, 03:30:02 PM »
I have used the 50 1.2 for two years now and it is the only L lens that i have that seems outdated.
My TS-E 24mm II, 85mm 1.2 II and 135mm 2.0 are noticeably sharper and more reliable.

Even then it is on my camera half the time because i love the focal length and aperture.
All Leica 50mm lenses put the smackdown on the canon 50 1.2. That is why i am saving for the new Leica M with 50mm apo 50mm 2.0.

Please Canon update the 50mm to the level of your other better primes.

EOS Bodies / Re: Canon Cannot Keep Screwing It's Customers Over

Per Radiating:
"I'm an economic analyst so thanks for posting something relevant."

"I could personally care less about their pricing games, I make enough to buy hundreds Canon pro bodies a year and have enough left over to live comfortably after throwing those in the trash, but I think it's worth taking note of this craziness."

My math says that in order to by hundreds of 1Dx bodies (lets just say 200), it would cost $1,359,800. I would like to be able to throw $1.3 million in the trash each year and still live comfortably on what I earn.

Therefore...I've decided to go back to school to become an economic analyst.

Maybe he meant he could buy 900 pro bodies a year comfortably ("hundreds"). He would make $6,119,100 every year to throw away.
LOL he makes a lot of money. if that's to throw away how much does he need first to make him comfortable? 25 million a year? He must be an economic analyst for apple. Damnnn.

at 50MP why not just do a medium format camera ?

That would need a new range of lenses...

They came up with a range of lenses for the Canon EOS Cinema cameras.

I just care that the product is well made.

well i would buy leica then.. not canon.

Leica M Monochrom is on my shopping list. I own a photography company and i don't make much money
from it yet but i still don't care how much it costs. the more the merrier.

EOS Bodies / Re: Humidity
« on: October 25, 2012, 02:12:56 AM »
Whenever you bring your camera outside (in extremely humid places- not limited to FL), put it in a dry bag/sack.  Let the body acclimate to the temperature and pull it out of the bag.  This will minimize condensation on the lens and inside/outside of the body.

Great advice. I've had to learn this the hard way.

IMHO, the 85% humidity rating is conservative. I've shot many, many  times in 90% or more humidity in the vicious Houston heat without any problems with my 20D and 5DC, both of which have no weather sealing.

What the heck is a 5DC camera??? To my knowledge there is only a 5D, 5D Mark II and a 5D Mark III.
People seem to mention it all the time. Are we making up imaginary cameras now?

EOS Bodies / Re: do crop sensors really add reach?
« on: October 20, 2012, 02:51:34 AM »
I'm confused about most the comments here.
Comparing a REBEL and a 7D to 5D II or 1DX is just not happening.

I have used all cameras and i would much rather crop pictures from a 5D II because of one simple reason.
The image quality from a rebel is simply put A LOAD OF CRAP. Doesn't matter how much reach you get if you only get to keep 1% of the pictures because of poor imqge quality. You can zoom in with 5D II pictures a whole lot and the image quality is still awesome!

EOS Bodies / Re: Big Megapixel Talk [CR2]
« on: October 10, 2012, 06:01:12 AM »
Seems quite self-defeating that Canon goes all the way to merge the 1D/1Ds split into the 1DX, and now have another high resolution model, which effectively restarts the product lines.

OK, let me take that back. Maybe they actually decided to adopt the Nikon approach - D1, D1H, D1X....

Yes the 1D Mark IV and 1Ds Mark III merged for the 1DX.
They didn't say they were discontinuing 1DS models or that the 1DX was a replacement for a 1D studio body which it clearly isn't.

They didn't merge two very different camera lines.. they simply combined the best of what the 1D IV and 1Ds III had to offer.
