EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: 1D X Product Advisory
« on: June 19, 2013, 03:14:50 PM »
I don't think many people will find the markings on their camera. I would think they started marking them right after they figured out what was wrong. And i think that is less than a month ago because i bought my 1D X 3 weeks ago and it doesn't have the markings yet.

So they will just lubricate it or replace something ? I guess we'll see some oilsplatted sensor if lube is all they will do to fix this  :o

That's what i'm afraid of.. Every time i send my camera for repair in Finland they do fix the problem but they don't take good care of the camera.

I replaced the bottom lcd screen (plastic) on my old 1D Mark IV and they replaced the glass with a new one but the new glass was slanted and it had a ton of dust inside like they swapped the glass at a construction site.

In short, i don't like canon service in Finland and will send a million complaints to canon if they mess up my new 1D X at "repair/service"

Also i have a question.. canon said this:
"Potentially affected cameras will be inspected and repaired free of charge. If you own one of the potentially affected cameras please contact our Customer Support Center"

Does it mean that my newly bought 1D X is potentially affected because it belongs to the group of "insufficient lubrication" OR does it mean that i can only get it repaired after the symptoms appear? (a.k.a after there is already wear and damage to the camera)

What i don't like about this is that i bought a 1DX just under 3 weeks ago and have been proud of it's 400 000 shutter life and now they tell me that most probably your drive mechanism will fail long before that, hahaha.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: 1 DX firmware 1.2.4 causing lock up?
« on: June 15, 2013, 12:51:24 PM »
I have experienced something similar on my new 1DX.
I purchased it on the day the 1.2.4 came.

My problem was that after turning the power off (or by auto power off)
When i turned the lever to power on nothing happened..
It happened to me a couple of times and once i saw a fast notification on the screen that cannot read card 2.
So after re-entering the cards to the camera everything has worked perfectly.

Propably not the same as what happened to yours though.

EOS Bodies / Re: A Big Megapixel Discussion

Or will the 5DIV be 45 MP

That's one possibility, that the 5D Mk IV is going to be the big MP camera, and eventually a future 6D Mk II will gain a better AF and more FPS...

I'm not sure what you are basing that on. This could very well be the 1D Xs.

Speculation. It's fun. Sure, it could be called 1D Xs. But again, I don't think so, especially if it's going to be a non-integrated grip body, which is my preferred option. In the other case, why not? But unlikely. Remember Canon introduced the "X" to represent the merging (crossing) of the 1D and 1Ds lines, and now what? Splitting in two the 1 series again and keeping the X, though both FF?

I have always understood that what they meant with "merging of the 1D and 1Ds" meant the actual merging of 1D IV and 1Ds III cameras not the actual 1D and 1Ds "lines" meaning that they forever excluded the possibility of a high speed 1D and a big megapixel 1D. Watch the official announcements again after you read this post, they didn't say exactly what you thought.

Another take that i think could be possible is that they meant that the 1D and 1Ds lines merge in to a 1DX which does not exclude a 1DXs line.

Big companies sometimes say things that is useful for marketing but customers take them too seriously.

Just watch and see. It will be in a 1D body. It has been clear ever since they launched the 1DX.. most 1D users are happy with 18MP on a full frame BUT there is definitely a need for a 1D body that rivals medium format cameras.

It just makes sense. If Canon wants a shot at medium format cameras they WILL release it on a 1D because it would be stupid to give better image quality for half the price of the 1DX and the camera would be stripped down on functions as well..

It's amazing how close to the canon 24-70 II they can model their lens and get away with it.

Lenses / Re: 17-55 internal dust removal

I recently pickup 85L II and it has 1 tiny dust speck inside, rear end. It will be used as is.

I guess the 85L II is prone to getting dust inside the rear elements.. mine has multiple really tiny specks but don't seem to show up in images at all..

1D X Sample Images / Re: Any Thing shot with a 1Dx

I just bought a 1DX last week and took these photos on the first day.

There is a big difference using the faster option.
The 55ms reacts when the button is pressed down almost completely and on shortened setting it reacts immediately when the button is pressed to the point where it takes the picture.

I am as well wondering if there are big downsides for using it.

Lenses / Re: Are there custom lens hoods for canon L lenses??

I know how ridiculous it is and it is not a life and death situation but if someone made better looking hood i would buy it for sure.

So thats the opposite of what i'm looking for :)
I'm looking for something better than the original ones.

I don't see the logic of making a lens that costs 2300€ and it has an ugly lenshood that no one bothered to make well and it propably costs 1€ to make.

Lenses / Are there custom lens hoods for canon L lenses??
« on: June 03, 2013, 10:10:08 AM »
I would greatly appreciate if someone knows it there is a company that makes good lens hoods for L glass.

Most of the time i use the 85mm 1.2L II with 1DX and they are both great looking products but the lens hoid on the 85mm is hideous!! And it feels really cheap.

Many lens hoods look and feel good but not this one. I like the hoods on TS-E24mm 3.5 II, 70-200 2.8 is II, 24-70 II, 35mm 1.4.

I dont know why this bugs me so much but i'm embarrased to be seen with the lens hood on the lens.

Is there a company that makes them??
I would rather make one myself out of silly putty than use this one.

Thanks.

Lenses / Re: If you could only have three lenses...
« on: June 03, 2013, 02:04:31 AM »
I shoot very little if any video so i'll have to answer my 3 perfect lenses for photography only.

TS-E 24mm 3.5L II
TS-E 45mm 2.8L II (i know its not out yet but its heavily rumoured already)
85mm 1.2L II USM

Can't think of a better 3 lens combo. Perfect image quality out of all of these.
Just waiting for the new TS-E lenses to arrive!

I answered my own question by trying it :)
I downloaded the zip file "for windows" and it as the same .FIR file that would be inside a .dmg file for a mac.

It worked.

I just bought the 1DX yesterday and i have to say that it is a monster of a camera!!!!!!
Especially the image quality i get out of it with my TS-E24mm 3.5L II and 85mm 1.2L II primes!!

I'll post few images to anything shot with a 1DX soon..

MY QUESTION is this.. My 1DX came with firmware 1.2.1 and the newest firmware is 1.2.4 on the canon U.S.A website.
I have used a MAC for years now and on the website the 1.2.4 firmware is only found for windows and not mac..

However i downloaded the file supposedly meant only for windows.. But the update file should be exactly the same as it will be when it is available through mac osx later right??

I'm a little hesitant to use the "windows file" on my brand new 1DX..
It feels stupid to wait because i'm 99.9999% sure that it is the same file what will be available for macs.

Anyone know for sure??

Thanks.
