Lenses / Re: Canon 85L vs. 135 L in terms of focal length
« on: February 09, 2012, 11:00:05 AM »
Doug i don't think your distance theory is right.. Take a shot of a same subject standing in the same place with different focal lenghts and crop all the pictures to look the "same" and you will see that the focal lenght used will have big differences.

And photographiasi in my eyes the 135 and 85 has a big differences in compressing the image. I like to use the 85mm 1.2 II for portraits and when i want to compress it more i use 100mm from the 70-200mm IS II.

I recommend the 85mm. It also lets me have more in the image with my desired compression.

EOS Bodies / Re: 40MP Canon that's not the 5D3?
« on: February 08, 2012, 01:26:00 PM »
I feel the same as macfly. I would really need a pro body with 40mp. what i'm always hoping is a medium format camera from Canon, but thats just me.

In the meantime i will get the 1DX.

Lenses / Re: Why Dont more lenses have IS?
« on: February 06, 2012, 03:30:18 PM »
I don't know if I'm right on this one but if adding IS reduces image quality at all by making the construction more complicated i would not want it in lenses under 200mm!!

Canon General / Re: Should photographers hibernate?
« on: February 03, 2012, 04:38:27 AM »
I know what you mean. I live in Finland and we do have snow but its friggin' cold here! Now its -26c (-14f) and i really dont like freezing my butt out outside. Many winters i have only taken only couple hundred pictures but now i take pictures for a living so i have to use my imagination and mostly shoot studio portraits in the winter.

Lenses / Re: Help me justify the 17mm TS-E
« on: January 28, 2012, 05:44:17 PM »
I own the ts-e 24mm 3.5L II and it came out the same time so i know that the construction and the build quality is the same in the 17mm. The ts-e 24II is the best built lens i have and it has the smoothest zoom ring possible.

I love my ts-e lens! Its not just for miniatures! There are endless applications on where to use the ts-e lenses!
i always have it on on my other camera. Now that i use other lenses it sucks that they dont have ts-e when i would need it. I shoot a lot of architechture and getting the lines straight is important.

I will get the ts-e 45mm and 90 II versions the secondnthey come out someday. The current versions are from 1990!!!

It is easy to justify it! Im sure it will be one of your favorite lenses. I would recommend the ts-e24mm II. If 24mm is wide enough for you.. Its 200-300$ cheaper too..

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: Why canon?
« on: January 26, 2012, 01:54:00 PM »
I think i bought my first point and shoot because  there seemed to be more commercials for canon and also other canon products so i trusted Canon to get my first 250$ and stuck with canon till this day.

The reason i am still with canon are the 1D cameras and an excellent collection of lenses that i trust more than the nikkors, the lenses i can't live without are the TS-E 24mm 3.5L II and the 85mm 1.2L II USM.

I prefer Canon to nikon but having said that i have nothing against nikon. My only problem has been that the nikon cameras have been really ugly an i still don't why the D4 has the stupid wheel on top. and the 24MP D3 had a bad buffer and the pictures were slow to come to the screen. why make a 7000$ camera underpowered.

If your still reading this i would like to point out that i don't believe in religiously sticking to one brand.. why now own them all?? and the upcoming D4 is a beautiful camera that i will get as an addition to my kit just for the heck of owning one.

I have had a 5D Mark II before and i swapped it for the 1DIV 1,5 years ago and they are totally in a different class! in terms of ergonomics, reliability, build quality, functions, everything.

I could never go back for a second using the 5D on a real man's photo job =)

I have 2 1D Mark IV's myself and i bought another two for my business and i love them to death!
After using them for that time, every time i pick up my 1D i appreciate what it is and what it does a whole lot.

Look how beautiful the blur is and how sharp and colorful the lens is!
I have 0 sharpening added and zero saturation added!
This was shot at f/3.5

I believe they have more in stock at least and faster delivery times from the factory is a given.
I dont know how much cameras they sell in japan versus the rest of the world though.

When i was there spring 2009 when 5D Mark II was brand spanking new they had good stocks of it and i placed an order for it the day after i got home and it took me 3 months to get it..

Third Party Manufacturers / Re: Nikon's D4 Outed Officially

The price point could give out that nikon has maby combined the d3s and D3x together as the D4 because the specs are very similar.

Lenses / Re: Do all of canons 50 mm lens suck?
« on: January 02, 2012, 04:16:30 PM »
I have a love hate relationship with my 50 1.2L..
Compared to my 85mm 1.2L II it.. well you can't even compare them because the 85mm is sharper at 1.2 than the 50mm is at 2.8!!!! and has better contrast.

On the other hand i love the size and the weather sealing and i love the focal length and the colors look really nice and its not bad at all its just that the 85mm is better.

I wish they would make a better 50mm!! i have been thinking they decided to make it more affordable and cos' of it didn't make it as good as they could have.

Ive been thinking to buy the 8000$ 50mm cine lens if it works good for still photos too.

haha, not worth 40,000 =) with half of that you could get 1Ds III, 85mm 1.2L II, 50mm 1.2L, 70-200mm 2.8 L II, 400mm 2.8L.

My only advice is to get a 5D Mark II !!

I shot for 3 months in Japan in 09' with 450D as it was my first dslr and my friend did the same thing with a 5D II and you cant even compare the pictures or talk about them in the same room.

I have been so depressed about shooting with the 450D that i will shoot the next trip to Japan this fall with a 1DX, 1D IV, ts-e24mm II, 70-200mm is II, 50mm 1.2, 85mm 1.2 II.

I know you are only as good pictures as you are as a photographer but i concider 90% on the files from the 450D useless.
