If 18MP is enoughf for you the 1DX is all of the above. Its super high speed, great IQ and low noise because of the new lower MP sensor and all that prosessing power.

I tried manfrotto tripods and was very dissapointed! Then bought a gitzo carbon fiber series 2 tripod and head and i am perfectly happy with them! They are light, strong, works great in all conditions.

EOS Bodies / Re: Earthshatteringly Disappointed With 7D
« on: December 09, 2011, 03:29:10 AM »
you mentioned about shooting with apertures 7-12, the calculated DLA (Diffraction Limited Aperture) for the 7D is f/6.9 so it means that when you go to apertures 8,9,10... you lose sharpness and image quality. the 5DII has a DLA of f/10.2 and it sucks more light in because its full frame.

And i recommend buying a sharper lens so you won't have to apply sharpening at all..
That way you can keep all the IQ and hence get better images. tilt shift lenses are great because you can shoot landscapes with larger apertures and with a bigger depth of field.

I love all the news we have had over the past week and i cant wait till the 1DX comes available! BUT im a little fustrated if canon doesnt make a studio orientated 1D.

I thought Canon was all about high quality cameras for taking PICTURES. And with the announcement of the C300 that is almost 20 000$ and lenses that are up to 47 000$

Compared to the quality that comes with that high price my 1D IV is starting to feel like cheap toy.

I want to know that im using the best available gear from Canon.
Now Canon has shown with this announcement that they can make a 6800$ 85mm prime lens, i feel like my 85mm 1.2L II USM is not even close to as good as it could be.

When will i be able to buy a 20 000$ 1D camera with 7000$ prime lenses with AF??

I'm guessing the 1D body C camera will be the king of dslr video and i don't thing there will be a video only orientated 5D.

i think this is really good news, 5D owners will be complaining that they don't have the best video for under 2000 bucks but those who are serious about video won't mind the price.

Japan / Re: Buying new/second hand canon gear in Tokyo
« on: November 01, 2011, 08:46:47 AM »
I'll keep that in mind, a part of it will stay here in Finland because my brother owns half of it.

It's a company called Excella Photo and this is our website: www.excellaphoto.com

Our official logo will be ready later this week and i want to replace half of the photos to much better ones but its a start and we are already have a good business flow going.

I will concentrate on model/fashion photography in the future witch is my passion so stay tuned and you will see these amateur looking model pictures dissappear very soon :)

I appreciate you going agaist the odds after what people told you, talent and a clear vision will get you places!

The 85mm is a great lens, no weather sealing, slightly slower AF but the image guality is awesome! It is sharper and has better contrast and it is perfect focal lenght for portraits so it is worth the high price.

I would rather trade places and have your gear and be living in Japan :)

I havn't been there for two years now. The good news is that i have my own photography company and i can make money to start travelling to Japan again and hopefully one day realise my dream to live there as a photographer.

How have you ended up living in Japan? Do you take photos for a living?

Hey Cannon man,

Akiba Yodobashi is awesome, I often stop off there ad drool over the gear. The Shinjuku Yodobashi camera senmon store is great too, really good selection of lighting gear and all the lenses are out to play with.

See you have the 17mm TS-E lens, how's that for you? I'm thinking of getting the TS-E 24mm 3.5LII as my next buy. Think it'll be Fujiya for that purchase, just got my 3rd speedlite from MAP saturday.

I actually have the TS-E 24mm 3.5L II.

17 is a bit too wide for my taste. i'm in love with the 24mm!! it is the finest built lens i have used. The focus ring is out of this world, so smooth and accurate.  And the pictures i get from it are awesome!! such good contrast and sharpness and color, its unbelievable they have made a wide lens that good!

and there are infinite applications for the TS-E functions!! i always have that in my bag! Highly recommend it!

I think they have a policy in Japan to not sell the last "display" model. That happened often to me.

Got to love the akiba yodobashi store! That is camera heaven for real!

EOS Bodies / Re: How weather resistant is a 5DMK2 really?
« on: October 26, 2011, 01:48:14 PM »
Even on the eos-1 manuals they say that " this camera is a precision instrument. Do not drop it or subject it to physical shock" and the working temperature range is 0-45c (32-113F)and humidity is 85% or less.

Now obviously 1 series cameras are designed to take moew punishment than that, though they do ensure that the camera will work perfectly.

I have owned a 5D Mark II and i currently use two 1D Mark IV bodies.

The 5D II has weather sealing to some degree.. Still i didnt take risks when it was raining because it wont survive very long in the rain for sure, i have heard stories that water has got through the seals after about 20 minutes in moderate rain.

I have dared to use the 1DIV bodies in moderate/slightly heavy rain for about an hour at a time and had no problems.
Im not the kind who wants to test them to the limits and im sure they would endure but i dont want to find out.

The 7D should have equal seals as the 1D IIN so it should be ok.

Its totally up to you how far you want to take it :)

If you need 40 plus Mp and silky magnificent files at 100iso then look to medium format. There's some brilliant kit out there, and the prices are quickly becoming more competitive.

That isn't really the point, I use MF cameras for most jobs, (today I tried the new Phase One Mamiya 645 with the leaf shutter lenses & 80mp back for the first time - amazing!) but they all require a team to run, and are slow to operate. Also I'd never take one away for the weekend.

I absolutley love the speed and ease of handling of the EOS, it gives me a freedom none of the medium formats can come close to, and allows me to catch those magic moments with far great accuracy. What I'd love is the ability to catch those moments at ~45mp.

What else do I need, can I plead for?

4-5fps, minimum of a 25 frame buffer, clean 1600iso and I'd be in heaven.

I'll happily pay 10-12k for that, because thats what it's worth to me.

Excactly what my wishes are also about an eos-1camera! I do studio work but im also a travel photographer and i wish there was one camera that could do it all. and i love the weather sealed eos-1 bodies, the reliability, durability, excellent ergonomics.

I am a user of two 1D Mark IV bodies and most certainly will buy the 1DX but i place hope in Canon to make a ~40MP camera in year or two..

EOS Bodies / Re: Why the new 5D will be cheaper than the current 5D
« on: October 20, 2011, 06:01:32 PM »
In my opinion the new 1Dx is what the 5D III should have been and there should be a medium format 50mp 1Ds III replacement at 13 000$

And a whole new range of lenses? Unless your willing to shoot with a tilt. None of the current lenses will work with mf?

I would love to buy new lenses, i would like an 85mm and a 135mm lenses for mf format.
And i could use my old lenses on 1D IV and the coming 1DX.
