Pricewatch Deals / Re: Preorder the EF 200-400 f/4L IS 1.4x TC

Okay $12,500 for a single lens PLUS case.  Is that better than a new 1DX ($6500)  300mm f/2.8 ($6500), and a 2X III TC ($300)?   For $800 more, you get a lot more and with more reach.

I wonder if the flip on/off function can be built into a separate 1.4x TC.  That would be a killer accessory.

Sell one one between your 5D2 or 1D3 and buy your Iphone 5 + 1DX.  Problem solved.

So you will give me the $5000 price difference between the 1Dx and the used 5D2 and 1D3?  If not, PROBLEM NOT SOLVED.  If I sell both, I'm still $3500 short.  Your Republican math is an epic fail.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / iPhone5 or 1Dx
« on: May 09, 2013, 08:46:52 PM »
I've been saving my $ for a 1Dx and my phone is dying.  I'm getting a new iPhone5 which will set my 1Dx fund back a little but that little gadget allows me to take decent images when I am not carrying my 1D3 or 5D2.  I can carry the iPhone5 everywhere, anywhere, and anyytime.  Now, what can I use to mate my L glass to my new iPhone5?

a different answer and statement to your earlier

"I have shot them all, thanks to Canon CPS and their loan program.  The 1DX is unparalleled and undisputably the best FF DSLR I've ever shot and that includes the D800, D3X, and D4."

What answer do you want? You want to hear how I wasted hours of my time doing head to head tests?  I test them the best way I know, use them in normal shooting situations and look at what I got.  You can be anal about every detail but the bottom line is producing images I and my customers like.  I have shot them all and that is my subjective judgment.  The 1DX makes my work better; isn't that what we all want?

Stop trying to use objective test results when all of our product appeal requirements are subjective.

Then I ask , in what way? Colors? DR?
1dx is the best Canon camera regarding noise and banding, I have tested 1dx yesterday regarding this issues and compared 1dx against 5dmk2 and 5dmk3, no question, the 1dx was much cleaner in the shadows.
If you then look at other parameters as color sensitivity, DR, tonal range I do not agree

In the only way that matters, I like the product of my work, my keeper rate, plus the percentage of shots in focus.  I like the creativity it affords me from sports, landscapes, time exposures, night shooting, indoor events, low ligght shooting.  It just does everything better than the other Canons.  I miss fewer shots and the frame rate is fantastic for sports and action.  You are looking at minutiae when, pardon the pun, you should be looking at the big picture.  What good is tonal quality and color sensitivity, etc when you miss the moment?  When I had the 1DX for 2 weeks, I didn't spend my time testing it; I used to for my normal shooting and it really made an inpact on what I can produce.

If this were an exercise in reading and interpreting te OP's request, most of you will get a FAIL.  He has his hands full with kids, won't have time to explore, and likes to shoot wide open.  Surely, a bulky lens won't work and neither will a small aperture solution.

Just a suggestion -

Sell 10-22, 50, 35L, 28-135, 24-105L

Buy 24-70 f/2.8L II

I'd like to hear what your reasoning is.

au contraire!  I'd suggest the best single lens to take with either of your cameras is the 28-135is for the following
reasons.   It's relatively cheap to buy - around $300 - but has good enough image quality that it has been a standard  package zoom with many Canon bundles.  It's relatively cheap to buy so you're not going to break the
bank if it's damaged or stolen.  It doesn't weigh as much as some of the alternatives suggested here and most vacations I've been on involve a lot of walking without many "rest stops".  You can sell it after your vacation if it doesn't fit nicely into your long range lens plan and you won't lose much, if any, money.  If you decide to take the
50 crop sensor, the 18-135 is another similarly priced option.

Have you shot with it?  With a 5D3, I don't think the OP wanted to sacrifice IQ.  If IQ is not paramount, then an SX50 or SX40 P&S will serve the OP well.

The 17-40 f/4L with your 50 should work.  The 17-40 is fairly compact and light and half the cost of a 24-70 II f/2.8L or a 16-35 II f/2.8L.
