Canon, I take my hat off to you. $45,000 for a lens. A new benchmark. I suppose it will make new L lenses seem cheap.

Canon General / Different body names for North America... why?

This is something that has always puzzled me. Why is, for example, a Canon EOS 600D known by that name everywhere in the world* except for North America where it is a Canon EOS Rebel T3i?
Here's another example. My Kawasaki ZZR1400 is known by that name everywhere in the world except North America where it is a Kawasaki Ninja ZX-14R.
What is it about the North American market that leads manufacturers to brand their products differently?
(* I realise Japan has another different name for the EOS 600D but local branding generally in Japan has always been eccentric so I'm disregarding that).

Lenses / Sigma 12-24mm Mk II has landed

I ordered mine today, should arrive Tuesday. Can't wait to see what 12mm looks like on FF.
The main changes over the Mk I are to the glass - four FLD elements (Sigma's version of fluorite) instead of one, which bodes well for good IQ, provided I get a good copy!

I'm worried that lens designers are being driven by lens reviewers. Lens reviewers seem to be obsessed with things like corner sharpness. I don't care much about corner sharpness because the subject of my image is invariably in the centre. I'd rather pay $500 for a lens with good centre sharpness and average corner sharpness, as opposed to $2,000 for a lens with good centre sharpness and good corner sharpness.
A good photograph rarely depends on lens sharpness.
