PowerShot Cameras / Re: Will the G17 have a 1" sensor?
« on: July 28, 2014, 11:00:24 AM »
I can't see Canon coming out with the S130 and G17 and having an outdated 1/1.7" sensor when Sony, Panasonic, etc are pushing forward with bigger sensors.

Probably not.

The G1X series is supposed to be the crossover larger sensor P&S, also that lens speed is very fast, it would make the lens much bigger than the 140mm f2.8 on the G16, so a substantially bigger camera.

Had heard the G17 will have 1" sensor with 24-200mm lens:

Canon G17 Rumored Specification

24-200mm f/1.4-2.0 lens
New 1″ Sensor
all magnesium body with comfortable grip
DIGIC 6

Is this legit?

PowerShot Cameras / Re: S120 Successor?

Typically a new S series comes out every September/October.

I don't recall anything being announced to succeed the S120, have any of you heard anything of a looming release?

Thanks in advance

S120 successor or a bigger sensor?

What is the PowerShot S200 f/2-3?
Well, the previous powershots were all f/2ish to f/5ish, so, maybe it indicates that the aperture on the tele end will be brighter

The S200 seems confusing as wasn't that model name introduced last year along the S120, but not for the US.

Definitely looks more like the S120 and RX100 than the current G1X or even G16.

Layout looks more like an S1xx series camera than a G1X successor. If it is a G1X successor, then the compensation dial is gone and adjustments are done via the universal dial in the rear. That would be strange.

I have to agree. I wonder if, perhaps, this is the S200, which also happens to be the G1X replacement? OR, this is the S200, which is to the G2X what the S1xx series is to the Gxx series? If the latter, perhaps this marks the end of the 1/1.7 sensor line in favor of APS-C?

You raise a very good point.  Unclear exactly what or how the S200 is intended to be targeted.

As expected, given the huge sensor.

And if it features another slow zoom lens and tiny optical viewfinder, it will be equally unexciting.

Any idea when we might be hearing more about this?

I am ready to order it!  Sure hope this comes through....announcement maybe the first week of February?

DIGIC 6 will make a huge difference in performance...just look at the G15 to G16.

The wider angle on the lens would be greatly appreciated.  The touchscreen will be nice, and keeping the swivel screen is a must.  I think that the G1X replacement absolutely needs to have wifi, though, and should also have GPS too.  Especially if they want to introduce it at a price point as high as the first one was.  I find it hard to believe these are not in the spec list.

I would appreciate if they could get the aperture at all faster, though.  Better focusing, too.  I feel like the dual pixel AF would really be appreciated here.  The original just hunts too much in low light, and can't do proper close focusing or macro without fiddling around in the menus.

I'm glad they're continuing with the G1X line, at least.  But I'm guessing I can stop waiting for that firmware update to the original that was supposed to improve all the focusing issues (like the M got).

Should this be the same dimensions basically then as the G1X?

Is this the larger sensor PowerShot we having been hearing about for several months or is that still another model?

PowerShot Cameras / A New Large Sensor PowerShot Coming Soon...

Is there any update on the A New Large Sensor PowerShot?  Is it going to be a fixed lens like the Nikon A or have a fast lens with a small range of zoom?

Anyone heard if the Pro2 will be replacing the G1X or referred to as the G2X?
