Lenses / Re: One problem with my 100-400L
« on: June 05, 2014, 11:48:56 PM »
I had soft focus issues with my 100-400L also.  I was hardly ever even using it anymore on my 7D or my 5D3.  I was really not happy with the reach on my 70-200 f/2.8 II, although the sharpness and IQ was amazing, especially compared to my 100-400L.

Shortly after becoming a CPS member, I decided to send my lens in for a check up, calibration, etc., as I finally decided to just sell it.  I got it back at the end of the week and decided to put it on my 5d3 and see if it acted any differently.  Well, it was focusing worse!  So I redid the MFA on it and low and behold, I had to recalibrate it to "0"!!

Since that day, it's been hard to tell if my 100-400L is sharper or my 70-200 f/2.8 II is sharper!  Now my 100-400L is on there most of the time, unless I'm shooting Real Estate.  My 70-200L rarely comes out to play anymore!  Funny isn't it?  I wouldn't hesitate to send it in!    They also discovered some other issues with my lens and I received a nice discount on the repair, enough to cover my expense of becoming a CPS member!

So I join the chorus of other voices, Send it in!

All the best!  Let us know how it turns out for you!   :)

One of my dove photos just hit the first page of popular on 500px. First time any of my photos have gotten quite that far. Given that it was a from-the-hip shot without ANY planning or artistic goals whatsoever, I'm pretty stunned:

UPDATE: Now it's the first image in the second row of the popular page! :D Pulse is 99.7. I wonder if it will hit the top row before it's pulse is knocked back at 24hrs...

That should help justifying the 600?

Congrats and Good Luck!  It's a great image!   ;)

Lenses / Re: Canon 300mm f2.8is II with 2.0x teleconverter III
« on: April 14, 2014, 07:49:38 PM »
This is a great thread, glad it was revived.  Not to hijack the thread by any means but not having the 300L, has anyone tried the 1.4xIII or the 2xIII on there 100-400L?  My copy is very sharp and I really love it.  Just wondering if the teleconverters would work equally as well with my 5dMk III and my 100-400mm, offering me 560mm with the 1.4xIII on the long end and 800mm with the 2xIII on the long end of my 100-400mm??

Thanks in advance!   :D

The lens was a 300mm f2.8
That shot is totally awesome!

That is very kind of you.

There are some more at:

AND AGAIN!! AMAZING!!  thanks for posting the link.  That's one of the best BIF fishing series I've seen... The incredibly still water just outside the splash, capturing the reflection just adds to the excellence, along with the great color and wonderful sharpness of all those images.  Really Superb!  Very Motivating!   Thanks again!

Lenses / Re: 24-70 II slight clicking sound when zooming

 >:( I agree with others that it is quite annoying that Canon doesn't seem to acknowledge this issue.  One of the big problems with it, is that it doesn't do it every single time you use the lens.  When you spend close to $100 to send it in to Canon, there is a good chance that the lens won't do it, while in there possession.

What the Canon technician told me was that they tried it 3 or 4 times and it didn't present with the issue, so they cleaned it and shipped it back to me.  It was clicking within 4 images of me getting it back and using it...

They suggested it was the camera and told me to send that in too.  I commented that it did it with my XSi, my 7D and my 5D III and my son's 5D II.  Should I send all my cameras in, I asked?  Yes, he said... No thanks...  :(

The lens still does it periodically and yes, it still pisses me off!  I'm going to sell it and get a new one...

This was the very first image I took, the day my brand new 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II lens arrived, back in 2011!  Needless to say, I kept the lens!  ;D

A few Real Estate photos, all F11 with Canon 14mm 2.8L II.  Interior shots are generally 4 exposures manually merged and blended in Photoshop, though the penthouse is an in-camera HDR shot with color adjustments in post.
Great job JM!!  Very nice!  :D
