I think that we are fortunate as Canon users to have two very competent models to choose from.

The 6D has better IQ/DR than a 5D3??  Citation?

I have not owned or used a 5D3, so I can't speak from experience, but some pretty well established testing sites have come to the same conclusion regarding IQ and overall noise.  I can certainly attest to significantly (noticeably) superior results to my 5D2, which I am very familiar with.

Man it's been a day or two and these various threads have BLOWN UP since then.

Just wanted to say thanks for the citations, and the petapixel article was especially illuminating (pun)... the PP article really shows how much we're splitting hairs versus the 5D2 tho. 

I believe, as I have seen it said elsewhere, that there's a LOT more than the sensor when choosing the camera, and the 5D3 is still worth the $1k premium for me, especially since I'm replacing a 7D (higher FPS, more/better AF points).

I'm late to this topic, but Neuro also veered me in the right direction, and I ended up swapping my slim for an XS Pro filter on my 16-35 II.  Works great!

I just wanted to pop in and say THANKS for posting that!  I open all image formats with ACR already for the controls, and saving as a 32-bit TIFF and reusing ACR for the controls is neat!  I usually do the HDR Pro and save from that, but I'll try it this way from now on.

I always thought bokeh refered to the "balls of light" moreso than just OOF areas.

As others have spoken about, if you're buying genuine Canon products, DON'T buy from a non-authorized dealer.  This includes third party sellers with Amazon, even if they're "fulfilled by" Amazon, it doesn't mean they're genuine at all.

I also agree that third party batteries and grips are the only aftermarket items I feel good about purchasing.  Canon's prices on these two type of items are INSANE.  Instead of one Canon battery, I can buy two or three aftermarket chipped batteries and still put some money back into my pocket.

Lenses / weather-seal gasket replacement

My wife bought me a 16-35 II at the LensRental sale last cyber monday.  I'm loving the lens, however there's several nicks in the weatherseal gasket on the back.

I'm aware that this is really easy to replace, however I have no idea where to source the gasket part itself.

Does anyone know where/how I can obtain this part?

On the 5D3 comment, I more meant that ISO 6400 would be much cleaner without horizantal bands.

I haven't done enough macro to try focus bracketing... I'm not a huge fan of using a tripod except in extreme cases such as astrophotography/timelapse.  I know macro and hand-holding don't really go together, but that's my style.  If I get more serious about macro work, I'd probably invest in a macro flash.

I put together a 70-200 f/2.8L II + 2xIII + 500D combo, and it's not too bad.

The AF does work, but it's herky jerky, and honestly it's better if you set it to the min. focus, and lean in and out until you nail the focus instead.

The big problem I have is that the DOF is TINY TINY TINY, but this is a general problem to overcome with any macro.  Amazingly, stopping down really high didn't seem to hurt image quality that much.

The attached picture was taken with a 5D2 + 70-200 f/2.8L II + 2xIII + 500D + 580EX II...   6400 ISO, 1/200 shutter, f/64 (yes, f/64, not a typo). 

The flash was bouncing on a high ceiling with the catchlight panel up for a small amount of direct light, and the shot was hand-held.

I had to boost the saturation/clarity/NR and darken the blacks to hide the horizontal noise bands... a 5D3 would be a much better camera for this I believe.

This is symantics, because the 6D is the closest thing to the 5D2 and the comparisons are valid, but I want to point out that the 6D is more of a full-frame rendition of the 60D and less of a 5D2 replacement.

The 6D has more gadgets and and a shrank footprint, at the expense of ergonomics (button layout) and ruggedness, meaning they're choosing marketing over robustness, like they would normally for a Rebel or xxD line.

The difference in size alone should be a clear indicator, along with the slower, laggier shutter (which is just pure crippling??) and the required plastic top for the wifi/gps.

None of this doesn't mean it's a great camera, I'm sure it is, but it wasn't designed as a professional's tool, the 5D2 is.  I went with the 5D2 and am still happy with that choice.

Plus, I'm 6'0" with big hands, so that made it an easy choice

my "precious" to me is the lens that I most use and would thus most miss... right now it's the 24-105L, it's pretty much indispensable for indoors with a bounce flash. 

I'm mulling over swapping this lens for a 24-70 f/2.8L II later this year, but I might miss the 71-105 portion of the zoom. 

It might still be my most used lens if I keep it, just for the flexibility it provides when I don't need a large aperture.

Hobby-level guy here, I use the Canon paper with my Pro 9000 II.  The paper is cheap and the profiles are built into the driver, so no worries.

The paper is by far, the cheaper part of the expense as compared to the ink, so I just stock the Canon paper whenever I find it on sale.  13x19 $1 a sheet usually, and 4x6 paper for proofs/giveaways costs less than a nickel when you buy the 400 pack.

The ink, however, wowsah...$$  I'm just too chicken to try the messy injection or potentially disasterous bulk kits.
