Third Party Manufacturers / Re: Induro Gimbal Hold A 500mm?
« on: August 30, 2012, 07:02:16 PM »
Seems to be a 20% cheaper version of the Wimberley Sidekick.  I'd check out Wimberley's page on full gimbal vs. side mount to help your decision.

Personally, I think the full gimbal is the better choice (and I like the RRS version for the added flexibility of conversion to nodal pano head, although an additional $140 clamp is needed).

The sidekick seems like a better model. I like the rrs gimbal but isn't it like $800? Lol I'm looking for something that can maybe clamp on or something so I don't have to change heads if the tripod which isn't a big deal but of course a full gimbal would be much more sturdy

Third Party Manufacturers / Induro Gimbal Hold A 500mm?
« on: August 30, 2012, 06:39:41 PM »
I saw this that it would mount in a bh55 rrs but says up to 300mm. I was just wondering if it would hold the 500mm for a gimbal effect instead if buying a whole gimbal head. Or does anyone know of something similar that can hold the 500?

Video & Movie / Re: Time Laspe Program?

I've done it with both iMovie and with FCPX.....

With iMovie...you put all your clips in....and I believe you select them all, and change the timing to the fastest which I think is 0.1 sec....and it works just fine.

Similarly with FCPX...drop all images in...make into a composite clip, and then use the timing tool to reduce the whole clip to the length you wish...both work quite well.

To get the details on this...go search youtube...I found lots of tutorials there on how to do this. i Movie comes with OSX...so, it is a free tool to play with on the mac.

HTH,

cayenne

Thanks I'll try it

Lenses / Re: 500mm f/4.5 focusing help?!?!?

I focused on the word "mixed" and so far this looked the best of all the other adjustments

Your AFMA method is a formula for disaster.  Focusing on a book that way, the camera might grab anyone of the horizontal lines.
Use a target designed to make sure that you are forcing the camera to autofocus exactly where you want it to.
Using software like Reikan FoCal is far better, but at least use something like this.  Its free!
http://regex.info/blog/photo-tech/focus-chart

Note how the center horizontal line is isolated so the camera can only lock onto the one place.  There is a lot of other good info there as well.  Proper setup and exact perpendicularity to the target is a must.

EOS Bodies / Re: Canon EOS 7D Mark II Specs? [CR1]

With Canon I guess you should always wait for a camera! I bought the 5d3 when it first came out but come on canon, this is pretty much the 5d3 with 10fps and 2 more mp.... And I'm guessing this camera will be in the 2,000-2,500$ range :(! If the 7d and below are supposed to be more entry/mid level pro dslr's why are they making them just like the 1dx etc??? And their usually way cheaper in price :((

Technical Support / Re: 60D Dust Help

I've tried the rocket air blower and didn't change it. Im thinking it's a wet something meaning it would need sme kind of wet cleaning solution which I don't want to mess with. So I'm currently looking for another camera repair type shop who can maybe look at it or clean it.

Haha sure I'll try a vacumm cleaner! But ya it doesn't affect the image quality it's just annoying and it's something small but it just makes it difficult shooting sometimes, so I'll have to see if the mighty Denver has a shop that can cleani it thanks for your comments

Is there any computer program for Mac that can compile a time lapse together other than cs6? Cs6 seems to take forever and doesn't seem to keep the quality of the photos
Any video editing program, and even Quicktime 7 Pro can do it. I'd suggest looking through some of the forum posts here to see if there is anything in Photoshop you are doing wrong:

EOS Bodies / Re: 1DX Worth the Money?
« on: August 19, 2012, 11:39:12 AM »
Well I made my final sale decision today.  I did not go with a second 1DX, but rather kept my 1D Mark IV and sold my 1Ds Mark III and a 5D Mark III I had earlier.  I really like the colors and extra reach with IQ on the 1D Mark IV for outdoor sports.  So yes, one 1DX was probably worth the 6800 but I decided the 1D4 was so good I wanted to keep that, and then the 5D3 for weddings/baby photos and quiet sports like tennis and golf.  Either way on the 1D4 you won't be disappointed, should you choose that route.

I decided to go with a 500 f4 instead of the dx and I'm now looking for a 1d3 or 1d4 :)! The 4 would be nicer with the 16 mp but most with pretty high shutter count seem to all be $4,500+ when new they were $5,000 I think lol but thanks for your post!
I've done the same but in a different order, I have the 5Diii and just bought a second hand 1D IV(wanted the f/p/s, but also the 1.3 crop) for Au$3,300.00 (the prices you mention seem excessive) with low shutter count, only problem was the sensor was filthy, now I'm saving for a 500 f/4L.

What's the AU to US conversion lol? But I'm aussiming that's still a good price! How do you like it?

$3,500 would be nice!

I know the camera will maintain its value but the onesi find seem to be like buying it new lol. And I still like the dx because of the ISO Preformance and 14 amazing fps lol! But I'd love to see some images if u post them in the dx thread or wherever! Cause dx will be better than mark 4 but really only 2 less mp and 10'fps? How is the make 4's ISO Preformance!? Like at most indoor arenas I've shot in, well hockey I think I was at 800-1000 iso but football etc you don't have that white ice reflecting light, but has the mark 4 iso like 500-2000 ish?

I've shot with the 1D4 and plan on shooting again, at ISO 6400.  If you apply NR out of the camera, in LR or ACR, it is acceptable.  I have no reservation shooting basketball and volleyball with the 1DX/1D4 combo.  Remember when this camera was new, it was THE sports camera.

Sounds fantastic!!! Thanks

Third Party Manufacturers / Re: Good Wireless Mic For Video??
« on: August 18, 2012, 10:57:41 PM »
I can't recommend anything in that low price range, but I can tell you NOT to go cheap on wireless gear.  Like anything else, you get what you pay.  I work in television and all of my wireless gear, since I started freelancing in the 90's, is Lectrosonics and it's the majority of what you will see in the field being used professionally(for a reason).  Audio, unfortunately, is an afterthought a lot of times.  It's not "sexy" like a camera or lens, but it is just as important.  Lectro gear is not cheap.  For someone with my needs, you are looking at about $7K or so for a complete two-channel system.  But they have "entry level" systems, too.  You can get into a single channel set-up for under $1,500.  You are much better off spending a little more on an entry level Lectro system that is built to last than a plastic Azden or Sennheiser or Shure system that's in the "$600" range.

Haha wow!! Your right about audio as an after thought!! Hmm haha dang well, is there one in particular you would recomened for filming outdoors?? So wind, noises, etc that doesn't go over $1,500?
