Lenses / Re: Infra red filter - question
« on: May 17, 2013, 07:46:20 PM »
Thanks, but I read that sensors don't fully block IR, so one can kind of do IR photos with longer exposures.
I found a good link to start off with. Got it now. Thanks.

Lenses / Infra red filter - question
« on: May 17, 2013, 07:14:15 PM »

I saw some nice infra red photos and I wondered are there two types of filters?
Namely, I thought that UV/IR filter is used to cut of those rays. So what filter should one use for IR photography? Are these different filters or I missed something?

Hm, not sure how I would do that. I mean, each photo is different. Could you give me some hints, please?
Would a UV filter help in this situations? UV is advertised as a filter that removes blue cast.

Lenses / Blue cast in shadows
« on: March 04, 2013, 08:09:53 PM »

I've noticed that something that supposed to be white actually has bluish cast in shadow.
For example I took a photo of a tree with white flowers and the flowers lit by sun look white. WB looks fine, however those flowers of a tree which ended up in a shade look somehow blue.
I would expect them to look more pale white, or something towards beige.

Is this a normal thing?

My explanation is that the shade has different temperature and that's why it is off.
How do you guys solve this issue if it happens to occur?

Pricewatch Deals / What is the best place to sell your equipment?
« on: January 23, 2013, 02:38:54 PM »

I don't have any experience is selling the equipment online at all.
I'm a legal citizen in the US, but I don't have an account in the American bank. Are there other options available?
Would it be the easiest option to open an account here?

Third Party Manufacturers / Leica M 240 vs 5D III vs Nikon D800
« on: January 22, 2013, 11:19:50 PM »
After shooting and being obsessed with photography for two years I somehow settled with a 35mm f/1.4 on my dslr. It's 90% time on my camera for last few months.
Now as M 240 is about to be released I started to wonder should I sell all my equipment and settle with Leica and 35mm 1.4 lux. I like the idea of having EVF on it as composing through viewfinder is a bit tricky I heard.
Maybe in future I'd get some other lens as well, but for now 35mm is what gives me joy and I'm certain this would be enough for me. The size and weight are also a big plus for me to go in that direction.

Could owners of both systems share some thought about IQ, sharpness, colors... comparing Leica (I presume IQ of M240 will be very similar if not better than M9) and one of the mentioned DSLRs?

What are your predictions about other brands?
Will they go in that direction too?
I read Zeiss lenses are quality wise quite close to Leica and maybe there will be some other FF rangefinder style cameras for much less money.

Lighting / Re: Softbox and stands for YN568 based portable studio

I managed to lose manuals for 568 flashes.  >:(
Does anybody know where I could download it from?
I checked the official site and couldn't find it. I remember I saw it somewhere else, even a guy rewrote it a bit, but cannot find it anymore.

Honestly if you got a 24-70 II I don't think you would miss the performance of the 35L one bit.

Thanks for the link.

I would change 35L for anything at the moment. I simply love this lens.
24-70 should have been a complement to it. I thought a bit in the meantime, and if I got one I couldn't have both on camera at the same moment so one would spend most of the time in the bag so I gave up.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: Canon 5d Mark III Eyepiece cover
« on: January 20, 2013, 11:36:36 PM »
Has anybody managed to found a custom viewfinder with a lever for 5D III?
I'm really annoyed with swapping the cover and eyepiece that came with camera. I'll lose one or another sooner or later.

Lenses / 24mm 35mm 70mm FoV
« on: January 20, 2013, 06:30:34 PM »
I own 35L and I love it. Recently I've started thinking about getting a 24-70 zoom , but I'm not sure it will give me results as my precious ;-)
If I wanted to simulate 24mm or 70mm with 35L (excluding possible compression or distortion @ 70 and 24mm respectively) how much should I step back or forward to get mentioned 24 and 70 mm focal lenghts' FoV?

Guys, what is your workflow with Photomatix and why?
I saw Tray Ratcliff exports first from Lightroom to jpeg and than works on photos.
I tend to use Lightroom plugin and export the from LR to P directly than I save it as tiff.
Does Lightroom plugin convert those raw files to jpeg before sending to P or?  ...a bit confused here.

EOS-M / Re: Micro four DoF and lenses

Sorry for placing this thread in a wrong section.
The V is 1.8 eqvivalent. It is close, but...
What is an opstacle to make it 0.6 or 0.7?

I am really attracted by 4/3 system as it is small. I believe in few years the cameras will come with great sensors and IQ that will be good for my needs. Per Dxo olympus om has a slighty better dynamic range than 5d iii at the moment.
What do you think about a future of the lenses.
Why there's no lenses like 85mm f/1.2. The eqvivalent on 4/3 would be 42.5mm f/0.6, right?

In camera metering is generally about the luminance (brightness) of light, more usually that reflected from the subject, white balance is more about the colour of the source light.

Both systems cans be easily confused, metering by light or dark subjects, by lights behind the subject etc, white balance can be confused by the colour of the subject.

Despite the 'it's subjective' crew this is why I think its impoetant to understand how the camera is working, and where it can get things wrong, as this helps you get things right.

I'm sorry, but I believe you didn't understand my question. My point is to understand the way camera works and that's why I asked the question:
Is white balance metering related to light metering or not?
So let's say that before I recompose my image, the frame is filled with some light color (e.g. 2600K) that doesn't appear in the frame once I do the recomposition (e.g. 3000K), but I locked the metering at the first frame. Will AWB change to 3000K or it will remain at 2600K even though the metering is locked?
