Canon General / Canon Complaints?
« on: September 07, 2013, 11:17:43 AM »
Hey guys,

Has anyone ever go anywhere with complaining to Canon? I have had to send my 1DX to them 3 times due to faults... I recently sent mine in for the " Modification ", when it was returned the view finder was full of dust same with the sensor. After using it, it started flicking the lube on to the mirror, focus screen and sensor. It has also failed to focus on numerous occasions, and to top it off the Error 80 kept coming up. Has anyone had any success with complaints to get a small or large reimbursement for the inconvenience?

EOS Bodies - For Stills / 1DX Issues after recall service!?!?!?
« on: September 02, 2013, 05:37:07 AM »
Hey guys,

I received an email from CPS saying about the recall notice on some of the 1DX's, unfortunately mine was one that fell in that group...

Before it was set away it was perfect nothing wrong with it, focus locked on every time etc... Now after receiving it back from canon it sometimes struggles to lock on even to simple things, yesterday I was using it a falconry show and manage to get the Error 80 come up. The focus screen, mirror and sensor have been flicked with looks like oil. Not really sure how I can move forward with this now.

Any advice would be much appreciated

Lenses / 8-15mm or 15mm fisheye?
« on: April 11, 2013, 10:22:19 AM »
Hey guys,

Just a quick question... I did try looking but there seems to be a fair bit of conflicting info on both these lens... I have at the moment a Canon 15mm 2.8 fisheye. I am looking to use this as my main surf lens in my water proof housing... I have read that the 15mm suffers a lot from CA and that the autofocus isn't very good, to be honest I have never noticed it... My girlfriend really wants to buy my 15mm off me which is why I was looking at the 8-15mm. Am I going to be better off keeping the 15mm or will the L lens make a night and day difference?

Sports / Trying to get noticed...

Hey guys,

As the subject suggests I'm just trying to get my work noticed... I'm mainly focusing towards water sports / Surfing... I've posted 7 pics on flickr so if anyone would like to have a look and has some constructive criticism it would be greatly appreciated...

Lenses / Help me decide... PLEASE
« on: February 24, 2013, 09:58:56 PM »
Hey guys,

Im Alex and I have a problem... Joking aside I do have a serious problem, I have been bitten by the Prime lens bug and now I'm after getting a new prime...

I already own the 400mm 2.8 mkii IS and I have seen some of the images out of the 500mm and 600mm and this is where my problem starts... I do a lot of surf photography and birds of prey so both are perfectly suited to my needs... If I do decide to get a new prime I have told myself that this will be the final lens I buy ( told myself that 5 L lens ago )

Which one do you guy think I should be looking at more seriously?

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Canon 2x and 1.4x mk3 extenders
« on: February 19, 2013, 08:52:20 PM »
Hey guys,

After buying both of the Canon mk3 extenders I was rather disappointed that they can't be used together.. I thought it was strange as the 2x has the recess which it appears to accommodate the 1.4x but doesn't..

I thought that was crazy after previous versions could, so I thought I can make this work with some duct tape and super glue and nails..

Only joking.. What I did find that with a 12mm extension tube it will allow the 1.4x to sit behind the 2x and work fully...

Also the strange thing was it only picked up the 2x extender so its maximum aperture was 5.6 with both 2x and 1.4x being used.. Plus a bonus it focused to infinity :)

Got some great pics of the moon tonight :)

Lighting / ST-E3-RT and 600EX-RT to trigger 580EXii ?
« on: December 02, 2012, 02:21:59 PM »
Hey guys,

Im just about to pull the trigger on a ST-E3-RT and 600EX-RT that iv been having a play with.. I tried very quickly to see if it was possible to trigger two 580exii while in slave mode and the 600EX-RT in slave while using the ST-E3-RT to fire the  600, I unfortunately couldnt get the 580's to fire... But if I put the 600 on camera it fired the two 580's with no problem.. Im not after full ETTL, more than happy just using it fully manual...

If anyone can shed a bit light on this subject it would be much appreciated..

Software & Accessories / The best Calibration system for screen to print?
« on: October 18, 2012, 02:28:00 PM »
Hey guys,

After a few hours editing a few of my bird of prey in flight photos, I though that the next time that I'm in work il get them printed off.. Iv never been one for doing prints but as of late people have been asking to buy copies of my work.. To cut a long story short, when I printed off the selected photos I noticed that they came out a lot darker and slightly over saturated.. But when viewed on my Mac they look fine.. I understand no two systems can be perfect specially with colour rendering etc... Basically what I am looking for is a piece of software/hardware that will look at the screens colour etc and then will look at the print colours etc and get a happy balance where I can accurately edit on my mac and print off exactly what I see on the screen...

The lab that I use at work is a Fuji frontier wet lab using light sensitive paper and chemical based developers.. It is regally checked and calibrated by fuji engineers.. I understand that it will never be a perfect match like having my own printer, but I will never use it that much to warrant the costs ( much rather invest it in lenses ;) )...

If anyone can recommend a good but not too expensive calibration system I would much appreciate it..

EOS Bodies / New Canon EOS-M
« on: September 18, 2012, 03:47:08 PM »
Hello everyone,

Just had a rather interesting day spent with a couple of the Canon reps.. Basically iv got to play with the new EOS-M.. Build quality is very good, it has a touch screen which is pretty much the same as a iPhone ( very good even tho I strongly dislike touch screens on cameras ).. The only downside to today was I wasn't able to try it with either the standard kit lens or with the EF adaptor.. Ill uploaded some pics.. If you have any questions just ask..

Update.. For some reason I cant upload the images to Canon Rumors so Ill add them to my flickr

Lenses / Best way of doing AF MA?

What have you found the best way to do the micro adjustment on the autofocus??

EOS Bodies - For Stills / New to Canon Rumors
« on: September 04, 2012, 06:06:32 PM »
Hello all,

This is my first post in the forum so please be gentle with me.. I have been reading through the forum for the past six months tracking the slow progress of the 1DX and other things that have caught my eye during this time..

A little about myself if anyone is interested.. Im 23 ( just ) and am living in "sunny" North Devon in the UK, I work in a nation wide camera shop ( If you live in the UK then will know what shop I'm on about ) I truly enjoy my job working with photographic equipment and giving my advice to people.. Iv been into photography for over 8 years starting off with a Fuji S5000 bridge camera ( got to start somewhere ) and loved it..

Within the past 13 months I have seriously invested in Canon and mac equipment.. My kit list is rather long so I do apologise.. My first DSLR was a Canon 7D which was closely followed by the 5D MKII, Lens that I have in my kit are as following ( All canon lens )
15mm 2.8 Fisheye
50mm 1.4
24-70L 2.8
16-35L MKII 2.8
100mm L macro 2.8
70-200L 2.8 IS MKII
1.4x MKIII
2 x 580 EX II

That was my entire kit until as of yesterday 03.09.12 where I was able to pick up my long awaited 1DX and 400mm 2.8 IS MKII and 24mm T&S .. One word to describe them AMAZING!!! With the little testing that iv done the results have just blown me away..

Now comes the sad part for me, as I was playing around with my new toy today I was taking some pics of my 3 year old black lab playing with a coiled pipe.. I got some great shots as she was jumping on this pipe right up until I got a mechanical error... I didn't think much of it as I thought it was a firmware issue. Removed the battery fired it back up fine, go to look through the viewfinder to see a weird looking line across... So I took the lens off and BANG out fell the focus screen on to the floor :( so now I have a scratched dirty focus screen.. I tried compressed air to knock off anything before placing it back in the camera but its not good... I feel a little miffed, Im going to contact CPS tomorrow and see what they will do.. I should have photographed it with one of my other bodies before I did anything, now I feel like they might turn around and say I have to pay for the repairs :(

Anyway sorry that was such a long intro to me, hope to hear back
