I have found the same on my 1DX, the noise reduction often makes the noise worse

This is worth having a look at http://www.garyluhm.net/bio/tips_0512.html Helped me out when I was at the IBPC trying to track a Red Kite going through trees...

400 may be a bit short.. but you will love it. I don't do much birding but the majority of my sports shooting is 61point auto, case 2 with accel/decel set to 1 and point switch to 0 for skiing. Kayaking I use Case 2 with the slider all the way over to locked on with accel/decel to 2 and switching to 1.

I think depending on the distance a 400mm will be more than enough... Normally I end up using my 70-200 2.8 mk2 and sometimes 200mm can be too much... I've used my 400mm 2.8 mk2 and 600mm 4 mk2 for birds in flight, It takes a lot of practice with the 600mm...

Devon is not egg shaped.

Lenses / Help me decide... PLEASE
« on: February 24, 2013, 09:58:56 PM »
Hey guys,

Im Alex and I have a problem... Joking aside I do have a serious problem, I have been bitten by the Prime lens bug and now I'm after getting a new prime...

I already own the 400mm 2.8 mkii IS and I have seen some of the images out of the 500mm and 600mm and this is where my problem starts... I do a lot of surf photography and birds of prey so both are perfectly suited to my needs... If I do decide to get a new prime I have told myself that this will be the final lens I buy ( told myself that 5 L lens ago )

Which one do you guy think I should be looking at more seriously?

Cheers

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: How Do You Clean your sensor? And how often?

If the rocket blower doesn't do it, I use a Visible Dust Arctic Butterfly 724 Super Bright.

Definitely buy one of these... Best invention for cleaning a sensor, I don't bother with anything else

Thats really strange because mine works fine... I tried it earlier today in the garden with random stuff and it was a little slow but still worked... Have you tried it on Live view?

Thanks guys for your comments

Well...darn, now I need a 12mm extension tube...  ;) If it works the same, that means the 1.4xIII-EF12-2xIII combo behind a 600/4 will give me 1680mm that reports as f/8 and will AF on the 1D X.

I really wish I had that 600mm in my kit bag.. Nice piece of glass

Thank you..

That one I manually focused it, but I did try it with AF and it was almost spot on.. Settings were ISO 800, 1/250 @ f/8

Hey guys,

After buying both of the Canon mk3 extenders I was rather disappointed that they can't be used together.. I thought it was strange as the 2x has the recess which it appears to accommodate the 1.4x but doesn't..

I thought that was crazy after previous versions could, so I thought I can make this work with some duct tape and super glue and nails..

Only joking.. What I did find that with a 12mm extension tube it will allow the 1.4x to sit behind the 2x and work fully...

Also the strange thing was it only picked up the 2x extender so its maximum aperture was 5.6 with both 2x and 1.4x being used.. Plus a bonus it focused to infinity :)

Got some great pics of the moon tonight :)

I wonder what is it like to handhold such a small camera at arm's length (no VF) with a somewhat heavy lens... Is it too hard to keep it steady?

Yes very hard to keep steady.. I tried my M on my 400mm 2.8 and then with a 2x convertor for a laugh.. It makes it almost impossible to hold..
