Canon General / Re: Why did you choose Canon?
« on: January 30, 2013, 08:12:57 PM »
I was after a DSLR, and picked the 450D because of price and features. I started a 2 year course in photography.

I stick with canon, 5 years on, as a working professional. I stay because of the ergonomics, glass and professional support that canon offer.
My canon gear has always grown with me, it's an extension of myself, and I can pick up any canon body from an EOS 300 through to the 1DS and through the 5/6/7ds all the way to the 1DX and be friends with it in minutes.
I can spend half an hour with a nikon entry level before I figure out how to take it out of auto iso.
Also...the images ain't so pleasing on the other side

ThinkTANK retrospective series are cool when not taking too much

that's what the cynic would think. The optimist in me says "not the story of the day" means there's something bigger and juicier that'll eclipse the 7d replacement

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: 6d - where to buy - UK

Mostly, I don't know. But I think it's because they sell them aswell as import them. Being in competition with your suppliers = not cool. maybe. I don't know

The distributor for Samyang (rokinon, bower) is no longer importing them for a lot of high street stores.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: I love big gear

Bout the smallest camera I'll actually like is a 7D, with grip.
Admittedly, I'd like a really compact camera like the s100 but really I know that once I get  a 5DIII i'm going to have little interest in one.
And I held a Puny girly man Leica X1 today. Lovely lens, good sensor. Feels flimsy as hell and has harsh NR

Went in for a 70-200 2.8 II and walked out with 2.

I was at an office party last night with my sigma 35 1.4.  It was great at finding focus at all cross type focal points.  It is razor sharp and I personally love the bokeh.  I am not a professional (as you will be able to tell) but if you are interested in seeing the images here is the link.  The office party is all the sigma

Cool, what camera was it?

EOS Bodies / Re: Canon Cannot Keep Screwing It's Customers Over

I think professionally, camera kit doesn't really devalue all that much.
Say I sell a $3000 camera second hand for $2000.
I've lost $1000, but I'm damn sure that when I'm upgrading a camera it'll make a significant enough difference to my business that that $1000 I've lost is peanuts compared to my profits.
The same idea follows for shutter replacements too.

I went from a rebel xti to a 7d. My 7d paid for itself, extra lenses, flashes, studio gear and my bills in the first year.
The only way I'd make a loss on it is if I paid someone to take it

Personally, I like Canon for their customer support. They've been fantastic to me

Just got this lens, and I can tell you that on my copy it's razor sharp, and the AF is really good. The lens keeps up well with the AI servo on my 7D

+ 1000 I hope:) I bought mine yesterday. Getting it in January when I return from Christmas holidays @ my in-laws :)
It hasn't dropped focus yet in any way that wasn't my fault. I'm not used to a DOF this thin

Third Party Manufacturers / Re: Sigma 30 vs 35?
« on: December 14, 2012, 02:42:20 PM »
I've used both, on both crop and FF and I have to say that the 35 is AMAZING and beats the 30 to a pulp.
Also, the USB lens dock they'll be releasing is only going to be compatible for lenses from the 35 onwards, and it adds whole tonnes of features.

+1 Don't know about beating it to a pulp but 35 1.4 is choice IMHO.... I used both on a 7D and 5D3, still sticking with the 35L.
The AF on the 35 is so much better. I may have been using a bad copy of the 30, but i just could not get a sharp image with it
