Pricewatch Deals / Re: Canon has Refurbished 5DIII for $2240
« on: January 01, 2013, 06:22:07 PM »
I don't need people to feel bad for me that I paid $3499 and $369 for 5d III and grip at launch. I have no regrets enjoying the significant upgrade it provided me over the 5d II.

I feel bad for people who torture themselves about the price and deprive their thirst for better gear. I don't have an endless budget or do photography for a living, but as a part time wedding photographer and for several odd and end jobs I do I want the superior gear.

You get what you pay for, yes canon is a bit steep for early adopters but that's not stopping most of us.

I was happy to sell my 5d II the other day and picked up my second 5dIII on crutchfield for $2999 new and paid no tax and free shipping.

I will be there next week. I take plenty of pictures with 70-200 2.8II with 2x III extender on 5DIII.

I find it peculiar that Beach Camera would sell it for less on Ebay where they have to pay a fee to Ebay, than there own website. Its doesn't make sense to me. When it sounds too good to be true, it usually is.

Have done some playing around with these, for my uses on the go at a wedding these streamline my workflow by not having to deal with extra devices such as pocket wizards.

Depends on which part of the wedding.

I use more lens during these parts but if I had a limit of two I would choose these based on my experience.

Brides House
85 f/1.8
35L f/1.4

Ceremony
70-200L f/2.8IS II
35L f/1.4

Outdoors Before Reception
24-105L f/4
70-200L f/2.8IS II

Reception
70-200L f/2.8IS II
35L f/1.4

If I had to only pick two for entire day.
I would have to choose.
70-200L f/2.8IS II
35L f/1.4

Ordered 3 600RTs. I have to spend sometime toying around with these this weekend. I look forward to shooting my next wedding in a month and not have my assistant or myself fumbling around with the pocket wizards Flex & Mini system. Great to have one less thing to attach to light pole or stands

Thinking of switching away from my two 580exII and Pocket Wizard System to the Speedlite Transmitter ST-E3-RT with two 600RTs using 5DIII. I am really hoping someone here can share positive or negative experiences with this setup.

Lenses / Should I sell 35L f/1.4 to get 24-70II?
« on: September 14, 2012, 02:47:23 PM »
I am mostly doing weddings and engagement sessions and usually just use 70-200 2.8II on 5D3 and I use 35L on 5D2. I am on the fence about selling 35 to buy the new 24-70? I am not in love with having to be spot on to get perfect sharp image with 35 with aperature below 3.2 when doing a pressure shoot like a wedding. I know these lens are different beasts, but wondering if anyone who has experience with both lens can tell me why I should make the switch.

Beside the obvious more reach or the 35 have ability for lower aperature below 2.8.

Although these images are crisp. The image at 24mm looks distorted and vignetting is very noticeable on few of those pics. Is that expected?

Brought these into Capture Pro 6, they look great. I am going to sell my Canon 35mm 1.4L I recently purchased to get the 24-70 II. Please post more RAW images if you can showing the quality of DOF.

I am anxious to hear owner reviews about this lens. I have 70-200 is 2.8II paired with 5dII or 5dIII at weddings and the pictures are amazing, if this new 24-70 gives same results in terms of af speed and IQ I will pony up $2300 in a heartbeat and photography is not my main profession. I know it's expensive but so was the 70-200 I paid $2500 for, and has proved to be worth every penny.

Thanks for the input about FoCal. Rather than buy windows 7 and parallels, I will wait for mac version, which company states it almost ready for release.
