Third Party Manufacturers / Re: Fuji x100(s) to Supplement an SLR
« on: May 12, 2013, 03:00:26 PM »
Ive had the X100 for a while now. On most occasions I will prefer to use my 5D3 with the 40mm over the X100, unless I want to travel really light. To me the 5D3 is so much better at everything. The X100 is fun but mine doesnt come out too often. IQ aside my biggest annoyance with the X100 is the exposure +/- dial. I cant tell you how many times I am shooting for a while then look down and see I have changed the setting by accident. Bad location I think. While I have seen some remarkable photos come out of it, I would say I consider it more of my point and shoot camera for when I dont want to lug the 5D3 around.

I love my 24-105. usually shoot with it at 105 and it is sharp sharp sharp.

The 1v HS is amazing! I love it. My second favorite would be an F-1n with motor winder, so much fun to shoot with. Yes I think I will shoot some film this weekend as well.

I cant comment on the V600 but I have the V700 and it is very nice. I have scanned 8x10 negs, 4x5 negs, and 35mm slides all with good results.
Even with the scanner the lightbox and loupe come in handy. especially with 35mm slides.

Lenses / Re: Promaster UV filter quality or lack of it.

Yes B+W are great. I like Heliopan also.
I worked in a camera store a few years ago and most of the Promaster stuff wasnt very good. We got a lot of returns.

EOS Bodies / Re: Canon 6D or 5D Mark III

Since you mention you are looking for a camera you can use for the next 5-6 years I would suggest going with the best technology available which I think would be the 5D3.
I upgraded from the 40D to the 5D3 a few months ago and it is fantastic. get the kit lens 24-105, you'll love it.

Technical Support / Re: Camera & lens bundle - do Canon tune them?
« on: January 22, 2013, 07:28:59 PM »
I was wondering this too. I got the 5D3 24-105 kit and the lens is unbelievably sharp out of the box. I have heard others not so happy with this lens so I thought maybe they did some sort of micro adjustment for kits.

Another vote for the 24-105 here. I got it because it was such a good deal with the kit at the time, but its fast become my go to lens.
