EOS Bodies - For Video / 5D3 BEST SOUND?

Hi all,

What's the best way to do sound for a documentary when using the 5D m3?

Can I connect a Rode XLR shotgun directly to the 5D body? Should I connect the mic to a recorder and sync sound in post? What's a good recorder?

Other options?

Hi all, I'm doing a documentary photo shoot of a film festival tonight. There will be many low light situations. I can't use flash or lamps. Using a 5D mark III and 50mm Zeiss 2.0 and one leg Manfrotto tripod. Any advise how to prepare for the shoot? What should I keep in mind? I want to make portraits, catch the atmosphere of the festival. What camera settings would be best? Thanks, have a nice day.

Hi all,

I need some help on how to keep the ISO as consistent as possible when shooting a short film with the 5d mark III. How to do this?

Does it mean I set and lock the ISO at let's say: 160 ISO throughout the whole shooting? And change the aperture to match the ISO (and locked shutter speed at 1/50)?

Thank you guys! For now I'll go for a Zeiss prime 35mm 2.0 or 1.4, and I'll rent some other primes when needed for a shoot. Any comments on the 35 2.0 or 1.4?

I own the 5D Mark III and a Zeiss 50mm 2.0 prime. I'm ready for a Zeis wide angle, such as the 25mm, 28 or 35. What would be a good buy for video (music videos, shorts)?

I want to shoot music videos with a 5D mark III, using a Zeiss 50mm Makro 2.0 lens, and a Zeiss 35mm 2.0.
What would be a good and affordable video rig (with follow focus) to go with this set?
I have seen the RedRock system. Is there a rig with the some quality as RedRock, with a lower price?

I also like the character of Zeiss lenses. At the art school I used a Hasselblad camera, with Zeiss lenses and MF.

Shooting video with the Zeiss lenses on 2.0 is a good choice for two reasons, I understand: the purple finging and losing focus when shooting at 1.4.

How bad is the fringing at 1.4 with stills? Do you know if the wide angle Zeiss lenses like the 28mm have the same problem?

Hi all,

Need some help choosing the right camera lenses for my 5D mark III.

I want to shoot stills and video. Stills: mainly portraits and street photography. Video: music videos.
I like to shoot with prime lenses: a 50mm and wide angle 35 or 28, preferably 1.2 / 1.4. Like the Canon 50mm L 1.2 or the Zeiss 50mm 1.4.

What would be the best choice for me? Canon or Zeiss lenses? Zeiss is only MF, good for video, but good for stills too?
