Video & Movie / My Showreel
« on: October 07, 2013, 09:15:37 AM »
Hey guys,

as my Timelapse showreel was well received I thought I'd share my actual showreel.

Which you can find on here:

Most shots done with a 5D mark III, a few bird close ups with the 600D.
Generally L lenses used, ranging from 16-35mm, 50mm f/1.2, 24-105mm, 100-400mm, 300mm f/4.
I often use a Glidecam, a lot of shots handheld or on tripod.

Any feedback is appreciated.

Hey guys,

made this film as my Final University Project.

Timelapses and landscape shots done on 5D mark iii, Close ups mostly with 600D digital zoom, Mid shots with 7D
Used a 16-35mm, 24-105mm, 300mm and 100-400mm during the production.

I'd appreciate if you watch it and let me know what you think!

Technical Support / 5dm3 AFMA Focal results
« on: December 21, 2012, 10:42:34 AM »
Hey guys,

just spend a few hours calibrating my 5dm3 as I was really unhappy with the unsharp results of it.

I used Reikan Focal 1.6.0 Plus, the fully AFMA.

The results vary quite a lot though when I change range so I am wondering what to calibrate it at.

I did this for two 24-105mm and the 100-400mm.

Results: 24-105mm

EV 7 5.4m W+1
EV 7 3.3m W+2
EV 7 0.8m W+3

EV 7.5 7m (14m zoomed)    T-1
EV 7.5 3.9m (7.9m zoomed)T+6
EV 7.5 2.5m                         T+5
EV 7.5 1.6m                         T+7
EV 7.5 0.8m                         T+7

Results: 100-400mm

EV 7.5 1.9m W+0
EV 7.5 3.1m W+0
EV 7.5 4.7m W+4
EV 7.5 7.0m (13m zoomed) W+2

EV 8 7.0m  T+4
EV 8 5.7m  T+4
EV 8 4.5m  T+4
EV 8 3.5m  T+7
EV 8 2.5m  T+9

So, I guess the 400mm one to keep at T+4 as I used it for far away wildlife most of times. Considering the other focal lenghts I could use a bit of advice please.

Software & Accessories / remote control/intervalometer for 5dm3
« on: December 03, 2012, 09:23:43 PM »
Hey guys,

I m very into wildlife and I m planning to shoot a Documentary on Waders soon, so I need a nice low budget remote control for my 5dm3. I want to do timelapses with it so I need an intervalometer within it.

It should also be able to trigger video, which I can't find any information on most of them, so I assume they don't have the option.

Can anybody recommend anything please? Cheers!

EOS Bodies - For Video / 5dm3 picture style for video
« on: November 02, 2012, 07:50:31 AM »

Software & Accessories / "cheap" video tripod
« on: October 07, 2012, 06:16:04 PM »
Hey guys,

I m looking to buy a tripod, now I have been looking into the manfrotto series and I do like the 501HDV/701 head but it is a bit pricey, what I m not sure on are the legs, I'd prefer something with carbon fibre but it is obviously expensive, I will use either a 1dm4 or 5dm3 on it...

Now my budget isn't high at all (trying to keep it below £200/$320), but I just need something decent that will not fly over by a gush of wind and is light as I m planning to take it trekking etc.... any suggestions?

Third Party Manufacturers / Nikon DSLR's pass bbc broadcast test

Hey guys,

I know it's the canon forum but I thought I'd share the news as this is great news for us all loving those DSLR video shots!

Software & Accessories / canon extender vs others, what to get?
« on: September 22, 2012, 02:05:29 PM »
Hey guys,

I m getting a 5dm3 at some point next month (upgrade from my 550d) i currently use a 100-400mm L and will prob get the kit lens with the 5d. Now that upgrade to FF i'll loose some length and was looking into adding an extender to my gear. (cost effective)

I earn money with making videos, but I love to take photos of wildlife, now I've been looking at some extenders, the Canon 1.4 III seemed to be my first choice, but I read it had AF  problems on f/8, also I don't really know much about extenders and what others options to consider.

Any suggestions please?

EOS Bodies - For Video / Camera choice mark ii? 7d? wait?
« on: September 06, 2012, 06:16:22 PM »
Hey guys,

I am currently looking to upgrade from my 550D, now the thing is we just started out own production company next to university and are getting quite a few paid jobs, but I m really at the limit of the 550D.

I am going to Tanzania in January filming for my final uni project for a month (wildlife doc) and want to have a nice camera with me to film, but also I m really into wildlife photography so getting a 5d mark II wouldn't really do the job FPS/AF wise. I will have about £1500 (2300$) saved up by next month so I am really struggling to make a decision, I mean a 7D would be nice FPS wise, but then again for filming it's not really any upgrade to my 550D and the 5D mark ii is just a bit old now i suppose just like the 7d

I guess waiting for Photokina would be probably the best choice? (7d mark ii, fingers crossed)

Any suggestions?
