EOS Bodies / Re: Enough Full Frame Talk: Where are the 7D II Rumors?
« on: September 17, 2012, 11:06:52 PM »
Personally, at the top of my wish list is the ability to control the camera with a phone (i.e. iOS or Android app).  I don't care about the built in hardware, but if Canon were to introduce a dongle that, at the very least, would allow phones to communicate either wirelessly or through a cable.  I know you can do this with a laptop, but I rarely carry mine when shooting (who wants to drag around an extra 7lbs?)... especially when an iPad/iPhone has most everything I need in the short term.

But I'm fairly happy with my 5D mark iii and the expanded AEB, which was a huge reason for wanting tethered shooting -- camera shake during HDR exposures and all.

As a slight aside, the only real feature I'm slightly jealous of the 6D having is wifi, since I see this as a possible route to truly controlling the camera wirelessly.  Nikon definitely got that one right... :-\

Third Party Manufacturers / Re: Nikon D600 $2700 MSRP??

:((( ... that mean a expensive (around $2500 or more) Canon 6D

I would be shocked if a 6D was less expensive than the current MSRP for the 5D mark II, unless Canon lowered the mark II's price.  Frankly, I expect a 6D to be right around $2,500 and Canon to discontinue the 5D mark II to make room in the lineup.  Otherwise, the two would cannibalize each others' sales.

Just my $0.02.

Macro / Re: 7D+100mm L=Beautiful shot

I agree.  Excellent shot.  I also have a 7D and the 100mm f/2.8L Macro.  This shot motivates me to get outside and shoot some more.  Too bad it's dark out.  Though I'll be taking both lens and camera on my upcoming vacation, so hopefully I can get some photos like this.

Care to share what your specs were?  Aperture, shutter, ISO, etc?  I'm always curious.

I've got a Dell U2412M.  24", 1920x1200, IPS Display.  You gotta go IPS if you want accurate colors.  It's hooked up to my 13" Macbook.  It's a pretty simple setup, but considering the amount of money I've already dumped into camera gear, I couldn't justify spending a ton on computer equipment too.  ;-)

Highly recommend the Dell, and it was around $270 earlier this year after the sale price.  Definitely a huge savings over going bigger/high resolution.

In the same boat here... Shooting with 7D for a little over two years now... Love it, but always wanted a FF.  Didn't like the 5D2 because of the AF.  Planning to buy it at the end of the year during the holiday sale (crossing fingers).  Might keep the 7D as a backup camera.  The only EFS lens I have is the Canon 10-22.  Biggest complaint from the wife... why would you buy such an expensive camera when you are not a PRO?

lol.  Same here.  Or my personal favorite, "How can you spend that much money on a HOBBY?"  But she eventually caved and bought it for me as a present.  Solid woman, my wife.  :-)

I just upgraded from a 7D to a 5DIII myself, and can say that it's definitely worth the upgrade!  I recently shot a street festival, but forgot my external flash.  With my 7D, after the sun went down I would have just put the camera away as I wouldn't have been able to get a "clean" enough shot in the low light conditions.  This was one of my first times venturing out with the 5DIII, and I was pretty blown away by the images I was able to get.  I'm attaching one of the photos.  f/4.5, 1/80, ISO: 12,800.  The high ISO and relatively low noise is incredible.  I cleaned it up a bit in Photoshop, but honestly it was only some light noise reduction as I do that to most images above ISO 1600 as a force of habit.

The only thing I'll disagree with the other posters on is the macro portion.  I don't know why anyone would use a FF over a crop sensor when you're doing macro photography.  Unless your crop camera isn't even in the same ballpark as your FF, using a crop sensor for macro is a no brainer.  I still use my 7D for macro work with my 100mm lens.  Yeah, macro photos still look great on my 5DIII, but the extra 60mm I get from the 7D is worth keeping it around.
