All of them look pretty amazing, and I'm curious to see what the bokeh looks like with that 18 blade iris on the 70-200!
The CP.2 Superspeeds look awesome,  $5000 for a T1.5 cinema lens is pretty reasonable for what they are.

Rig looks very adjustable and everything seems pretty reasonably priced, but being able to control focus via USB from a tripod or rig handle is almost as good as having AF in my book.  Even the basic remote controls have start/stop recording, adjustable focusing speed, and you can mark in and out focus points...pretty damn cool for $400.  Higher end remote is $800, has an LCD and even more controls.

Just the idea of being able to pull focus on the tripod or rig handle without having to move your hand off of it is awesome, as is not having to readjust your rig when you switch lenses, it's all done electronically.

And it looks like Zacuto is releasing something similar, a "Tornado Handle," but with Zacuto's pricing I'd be willing to bet it's quite a bit more expensive than the Manfrotto.  I do have to admit it sure is a sexy rig with that C300 on it and looks very well-made.  All the Zacuto stuff I have is top notch quality just very expensive, I mean even the little arm for my EVF was $350, and I ended up preferring a $50 adjustable arm over it.

Man I can't wait to see what else gets introduced this week!

EOS Bodies / Just preordered the 5DIII, price is definitely $3499.99
« on: March 01, 2012, 02:26:16 PM »
As soon as I heard it was for sure I ran over to one of the biggest Canon dealers in GA, they already had an SKU for it and it's most definitely $3499 body only.  I figured I would be first on the list, but I'm actually 4th, but I dont really care since I'll still get one from the first shipment.  Nice to see Canon dealers acknowledging it's existence   8)

Lenses / How is the 24mm TS-E V1?
« on: February 23, 2012, 10:55:31 AM »
I found one on CL for $700 in excellent condition.  I've heard wonderful things about the Mark II, but how is the original?

I've had a few people on the forum suggest that the CDSLR will cost MORE than the C300 simply because it's 4k.  I wondered what they could possibly add to a standard DSLR body that would justify it costing $14,000 more than Canon's top of the line camera (1DX).

This article is somewhat reassuring.... if they can get that out of a $400 camera, I'm sure that they can make the Cinema DSLR a relatively reasonable price.  8)

Lenses / 135L focus ring sticking, any suggestions?
« on: December 27, 2011, 01:33:24 PM »
My 135mm f/2 is getting stuck while focusing, i mean the ring keeps spinning, but you can see the distance marks stopping.  It doesn't happen every time, just here and there.  Any ideas as to what may be causing this?

Lenses / 400mm f/2.8 IS and 70-200 f/2.8 IS II
« on: December 26, 2011, 03:17:10 PM »
I found a guy that's asking $5500 for both ($4000 for the 400 and $1500 for the 70-200).  I'm pretty sure I could talk him down to $5k and both are in mint condition?
Strictly from a resale standpoint, if you guys had an extra $5k laying around and had time to sit on them, would you do it?

MSRP on the 400mm f/2.8 IS is $7999.99 and $2499 on the 70-200 (so over $10k new).  Even if I sold the 400 for $5k I would pretty much be getting the 70-200 II for free...

Lenses / So what kinda gear did Santa bring you this year?
« on: December 25, 2011, 01:52:39 PM »
I had a good year, so I spoiled myself a bit:
14mm f/2.8L II
27" iMac 3.1, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD 6gb/s
1TB Lacie Thunderbolt drive
Dynamic Perception motorized dolly

I highly recommend that anyone with a 2010 or 2011 imac do Other World Computing's imac turnkey program.  Solid states make such an insane difference i cant even describe it, but i guarantee it will speed up your workflow tremendously.  Happy holidays

Lenses / What's the best deal you've ever gotten on a lens?
« on: December 19, 2011, 03:02:21 PM »
I got a mint 14mm f/2.8L II for $1100 earlier today 8)   I've wanted this lens forever, I rent it here and there, but couldn't justify the purchase with a 16-35mm II in my bag already.  Saw the ad pop up on Craigslist, thought it had to be a Mark I, but sure enough it was a II.  Not a scratch on the thing, box and everything included.  Win!

Which made me wonder what kind of other random great deals people have gotten on photo equipment...

EOS Bodies / Best Buy has 5DII on sale for $2123?!
« on: May 15, 2011, 05:59:31 PM »
Awesome price, but it's crazy that B&H is out of stock and everywhere else that has it seems to be maintaining regular price.  I guess maybe Best Buy is dumping for the next model?

Before the Ipad 2 was announced, it was a pic of the best buy inventory screen that "confirmed" the ipad 2 announcement.

All I know is they better release something soon, that Sony FS100 is looking more and more tempting by the day.
