Canon General / Re: Why did you choose Canon?
« on: January 26, 2013, 03:27:43 PM »
In the late 90s, most of the photogs had Nikon f5 at the newspaper i worked for. Then when we transitioned to digital, they found canon reliable and cost effective. From then on, i always have a loyalty towards Canon for their durability. Most of the places I worked for used Canon. They are workhorses.

Thats a great deal for someone who is waiting for the price to go lower on the 6D. Thats about 20% off. Just like how the 5D III is priced now around $2800 from $3500.

I'd jump on the one with the 24-105. But I already have one too.

Thanks for sharing!

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: Anyone still using a 20D?

My trusty 10d was by my side until i got the 6d. I was so use to maxing out at 800 iso, underexposing my shots by a stop, and slow AF. It is still a great camera and will still use for a backup.

Update on 622c with 6D:

I found that one transceiver gives me different exposures than the other when on Camera. Also when the flash goes to sleep the one transceiver can wake it up. The other transceiver does not does not.

So I am in the process of returning them since one transceiver doesn't work correctly. Could be a bad one, but I need something solid?

I'm going to go with what Mt Spokane said. I should have done that the first place and get a canon one. But I was being cheap.

This happened during a shoot when I found these odd problems. Lucky they were not in a hurry.

I knew I saw a battery thread, but couldn't find it.

The Zeikos battery came with my 6d package. I tried charging it with the canon charger when I first opened it. It was blinking slow for 20 seconds, then started to blink fast. I charged it for a about 4 hours just to see if it worked. The battery lasted for only 50 shots. Then tried to charge it again for a few hours. After a few hours of charging, it didn't work.

I contacted Beach Camera, they sent me a new one real quick. The same thing happened.

After reading a few threads, I found that aftermarket batteries and canon chargers don't mingle well.

So I bought a cheap Opteka charger on amazon just to see if it can charge the Zeikos battery. It did, and now I can use it on the 6d.

Hope this helps anyone with same issue.

When I first tried them, there was a little hiccup. The photos were underexposed by a stop or two on ettl. Then I turned them off and tried again. Everything worked fine. Had no problems since.

I recently got them. Used them once for a product shoot which I used  a 430exII. I can control through the camera with ease: zoom the flash, exposure compensation, set to manual mode, change power output. Works fine, so far.

My yongnuo st-e2 didn't work with the 6d. Same problem with 5dIII which it would have sync problems. That is why I got the 622c.

Now I'm debating if I should just go 600rt down the road. Damn flash!

Good luck!

the problem i have with the 622c on the 6d is that it doesnt sit correctly on the hot shoe, the beam is way above the top foucus point. i have to tilt the 622c down so the center foucus points can track the beam. it was too slow for my taste to focus for me with af assist on, i turned it off and everything is fine for me. i am happy the 622c works cause the yongnuo st-e2 didn't work on the 6d.

EOS Bodies / Re: 6D or 5D3 (or wait for 7d2?)

I know I'm late in the game for posting, but I went for the 6d. The image quality is super for what I like doing. Candid shots, event/fluff work, family and friends and everything else.

I upgraded cause I was tired of my old camera not doing what I wanted it to do and the image quality. Couldn't afford the 5dIII, I saw the deals and was tempted. I had to realize what I can afford. So I went for the 6d for the lighter body and low light capabilities.

I have big hands and don't have a problem with the 6d layout. I really like it. I can adjust the top settings and the back buttons with my index finger and thumb while looking through the view finder. The outer points are pretty good in my opinion, but I'm not a tester.

With the 70-200 2.8 non IS, the focusing is super fast. I'm really happy for what I can do with the camera. The 24-105 is my dedicated lens. Its a great combo for a lot of things I shoot.

What ever you decide, you can't go wrong.

Here is a sample from my 6d just walking around by the Berkeley Pier.

In Byran Peterson's latest video, he cut off all is locks. I liked it better when he had the 80's hair do. Yes, that is a good read!

The 6D with 24-105 weighs 3.052 pounds. Its like carrying 2 two burritos and a coke. I just had it for a few days and I can notice a difference from what I use to have, which was .25 lbs more.

As you read, it does work well focusing in low light. I had only one instance where I was in a one lamp room that spilled light into the other. I tried to focus on a picture frame 20 feet away in another room that is dark. It didn't focus. Another try, it did it really quickly. That was the only hiccup so far I had playing with focus in super low light. My old camera didn't even focus.

I am surprise that the depth of field shows more with 24-105 on the 6D, since I have no experience with FF until now. I always used the 24-105 on my cropped sensor camera. Also the 12800 is really good, very usable. Here is my dog in that same one low light room with tv on. AWB still has that super yellow tint under tungsten. But easy fix.
