EF-S is a bummer on that 24mm. It still will be appealing for ASP-C users, but it could have lived a double life as a FF lens too. Was hoping for something comparable to the Voigtlander 20mm pancake but with AF.

Is there a particular reason that makes EF-S cameras need (dedicated) 24mm lenses?24mm on APS-C is pretty close to 35mm on full frame which is my favorite general purpose focal length. Right now the only 24mm options are the relatively large 24/1.4, and the relatively slow 24/2.8 IS, and both are relatively expensive. If they could make an EF-S 24mm at f/2 that is smaller than the 24/2.8 IS and south of $400, then count me in! IS not necessary!
Nice one! It's so wonderful to see how an article that simply reminisces about the 5D can devolve into snippy comments on this forum. Why don't we all just agree that the 5D was notable in the recent history of photography. Then we can each get on with our lives, and we can each go out and shoot some photos with whatever gear we find acceptable.
But... but... someone is wrong on the internet!
What's everyone's take on an upcoming 35L II? Is that going to happen any time soon? I thought it was rumored for Jan but then just never materialized.
I thought the reasons we buy prime lenses: sharp and bigger aperture(faster shutter speed)
"IS"....ummm I'm not sure.
