Interesting read indeed. I have a few 600rt's and both bodies, I am going to test side-by-side to see if I can replicate.

A sample of the bokeh would be appreciated...

Vkiran, this may not be the most scientific shot for bokeh, but I took this last night at church, wide open at f/2. I am about 30 feet away from my pastor in this shot and the band is just a few feet behind him. This has zero sharpening or editing other than white balance and xrite color corrections.

This lens....is absolutely incredible. Wide open it is as sharp as my 70-200 2.8 II at f/4 and the background is just absolute creamy goodness.

I can't wait to use it this weekend at a charity 5K. I'll post pictures in the gallery.

Lenses / Sigma 180mm 2.8 Macro
« on: September 20, 2012, 12:18:30 AM »
Received this the other day. I haven't had much of a chance to take some "proper" macro shots with it, but in just messing around the house with it- I'm quite impressed with the sharpness- Especially when using the Sigma 1.4x TC. Two gripes that I have are the size- It is massive compared to the 100mm 2.8 L and also it isn't weather sealed. Anyhow, here are a few around-the-house test shots (all wide open, however some are @ f4 due to TC):

I took my 24-70 II along with me and my wife on our wedding anniversary this weekend. I attached a low-light handheld shot, no editing, just converted to JPEG from our trip. I enjoyed using the lens and the sharpness and contrast are great...But I must say after everything I read on the web, I was expecting a little more. It certainly isn't the lenses fault, just over-hyped myself during my research on whether to purchase or not. Do I think it was worth the price? No. But then again, I haven't owned the original version to make a fair judgement. Anyhow, it is a fantastic lens nonetheless.

Lenses / Re: Should I sell 35L f/1.4 to get 24-70II?
« on: September 16, 2012, 02:37:22 AM »
I received my 24-70 II yesterday, and honestly I don't think I would give up my 35L for it. Granted, the only other zoom lens I have is the 70-200 2.8L II so I am admittedly partial to primes. Anyhow, I brought my 1DX with only the 24-70 II on my wife and I's wedding anniversary and I can't say I'm as thrilled with it as I thought I would be. Perhaps I was a bit too hyped up over what I read on the internet. I think a lot of it is that I've never even used the original 24-70, so I have nothing to base it off of. I certainly don't think it delivers the IQ and sharpness of my 70-200 though....

Great versatility is a big plus, which is huge in wedding photography no doubt.

...When you see the ISO performance of the EOS-1D X, that’s another reason not to care much about IS. That’s just my opinion!

Exactly my thoughts when choosing the 24-70 II and Tamron 24-70 VC...Thanks for solidifying my decision to purchase! Enjoy!

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: Which Camera & Lens - Aviation + Animals

Thanks for all the replys.

I'm still trying to make my mind up. I'm wondering has anyone tried the Sigma 120 - 300mm f/2.8 lens on the 5d mk 3. (sorry to say the "S" word on the Canon website)

I think if I used the 1.4 Tel converter it would make it a 120-300mm f/2.8 lens as a 168- 420mm f/4 lens.

A 420mm f4 would be epic (is this a possibility, has any one tried this???)

Can you use the canon 1.4 on a s Sigma lens??

I do. I contemplated purchasing the Canon 300mm f/2.8L II however ended up opting for the Sigma 120-300. I absolutely love the lens (although it is a heavy beast). I also have the Sigma 1.4 TC- There is a slight noticeable drop in contrast and a little bit more noise when using the TC, but the images are still superb.

I will see if I can get a few pictures up for for you.

What the heck is an AFMA? Is that like a configuration feature on the camera so the camera gets the lens comfortable with the new sensor?
Help out a newb please?

Agreed with everyone else. I was experiencing similar issues with my 1DX and decided to use FoCal on all of my lenses to ensure that wasn't the problem (or at least A problem). Doing this helped tremendously, even more so with my third party lenses than Canon glass.  Here's a few shots from a 5K this past weekend via 1DX and 70-200 2.8 II, most of them were keepers in regards to focus. The second shot was also in a forest overhang so it was quite dark in the original RAW file:

Like others mentioned, I too am also trying to get a firmer grasp on all of the AF capabilities...There are so many options. I used AF Scenario 3 with AI Servo for the above, if recall correctly.
