Third Party Manufacturers / Re: Sigma Announces New 30mm f/1.4 for APS-C
« on: January 29, 2013, 12:35:50 PM »
The "45mm is the Nikon 1.5x equivalent, on our canon eos 1.6x bodies, we will see a 48mm~50mm.

Which is good news, because the crop will give us the better glass in the center, but perhaps some more distortion, for canon, we are in a win/loose situation.

I have a 28mm 1.8 usm, and I love it, if we see better performance on aps-c with this new lens, it will be a big hit.

But if people are wanting to move to ff or aps-h, the canon 28mm 1.8 or 35mm 1.4 might be a better option.

However, with this being an aps-c consumer lens, I presume we will see a cheap price tag.

And now seeing sigma's rising, I hope that this lens will out perform all the new canon is primes.

So in conclusion, I thing sigma is spot on with putting a new aps-c prime on the market, it will sell we'll, just like the 35mm.

And, the results, will show us how well a new 50mm would perform.

Canon 28mm 1.8 usm, best crop prime there is.

Here's Snort, a one-eyed pug...

I think he's adorable, that's the thing about dogs, they live and let live, life is simple. Glad to see he's running around and enjoying life. That's the beautiful thing about dogs, they accept one another, enjoy things the way they are, and look cute by any means.

Lenses / My greatest wish: the cheap-fast glass!
« on: January 11, 2013, 07:51:22 PM »
Hey guys, opening up to thoughts here. What would you guys think about a line of canon lenses with wide aperatures, but no aperature blades.

If there were 1.0-2.0 prime lenses, with no aperature blades, sharp glass for the single aperature (L or not), built quality of the new IS primes, and a USM for a cheap price, would you buy it?

Of course aperature blades are important, but a line like this would be really nice for amateurs and enthusiasts wanting wide aperatures.

I have no ballpark price estimate, but this would make for a much simpler computer.

Reviews / Re: Any thoughts yet on the Canon 24-70 f/4 IS
« on: January 10, 2013, 12:27:14 PM »
I personally haven't used it, but even for the price, I believe it is worth it.

For me, it seems the aperture doesn't matter for this lens, there is something else.

The hybrid is is amazing, I have it in my 100mm l macro.

Also, it does macro.

And also cano bumped up the price, because they had to shave down the lens to put it in that small package. A lot of architecture went into the lens.

If I want a 24-70, I'll go for this lens over the old f2.8. But also, the tamron is an option, or if you can't justify the price, look at the sigma 24-70's. the new one is the canon 24-70 f4 size, and the old is huge, but cheap.

Hope it helps :)

If you really need the lens on a regular basis, get the 17mm, you wound regret it.

If you need a 24 ts, look at the rokinon.

But, if it isn't your regular shoot, and its only a little bit, I bet a local photography store would be willing to rent you one.

40mm, nice standard, small prime, iso should handle shutter speed.

The thing is, if a 24-70 is on the agenda, then an L prime may not be a good idea. You could get a 24-70 #1 for the $35mm 1.4.

Lenses / Photo jargon question: f/stops
« on: January 10, 2013, 12:12:22 PM »
Hey guys quick question.

"Does anybody know why the name of the lens includes the widest aperature (f/...)?"

Why not the smallest, or the sharpest?

Canon General / Working as an assistant.

Hey guys, I'm starting and internship at my local photography store. I'm working as an assistant for their top portrait specialist.

I will work both as a studio hand, and as a second photographer, how should I go about my job. I know these guys take things seriously, and he's one of the best, but how do I please him?

What angles should I look for while shooting?

How should I ask questions (regarding his needs, or to get information) without getting in he way.

I understand he will be a bit more passive having me under his wing, but I don't want o mess up.

I understand what you mean, what I do, is I have a second strap and lug connected to the camera, so if one breaks, they will be saved. This, I have tested (above my bed of course, and should protect your gear, if something like this happens, check the mount just to be safe.

Lowepro has a bag finder, where you can choose plenty of various models.

Crumpler is also great, they are my favorite urban photography gear.

like to hear some comments about this photo.
*like how well the bokeh and etc

I think it's ok, the bokeh is a little distracting. I don't like the flowers, they are blurry, and it takes away from the sharpness of the image, it looks more of slow shutter than motion blur.

But I really like the idea of blurry petals, and the girl blowing.

Can't wait for these, the 14-24 I hope will be amazing.   :D

I'm suprised to hear the 35mm 1.4 ii, I though because the new 35mm f2 is was not a sharp as the origional 35mm 1.4, they wouldn't replace it, but I guess with Nikon and Sigma beating Canon in that Place.

Lenses / Re: Canon 24mm 2.8 IS - anyone have experience with this lens?
« on: December 19, 2012, 01:25:11 PM »
I don't have personal expierience, but I do love my 28mm 1.8 usm. The 24mm is and 28mm are supposedly sharper.

The IS will help in windy situations, or even long night shots just in case.

Bit if you can wait, look at the samyang 24mm 3.5 ts, it will supposedly be very good.

The 24 or 28 would be nice landscape option.

If you shoot crop, you may need a wider lens.
