EOS Bodies / Re: 5D MKII Used?
« on: October 02, 2012, 04:21:10 PM »
Thanks folks for the thoughts.

I found a guy selling brand new unused one for $1600. Didn't even bother to hangle. If i meet and it looks legit I'm taking it.  The guy with the 42 click camera was willing to go down to $1300 buy I'll take the brand new one for the 300$ premium.

EOS Bodies / 5D MKII Used?
« on: October 02, 2012, 09:10:33 AM »
What's a fair going price for it these days? Looking to close a deal on a 5D MKII $1400 with 43k actuation. Is there a lot of life left on it? Thanks. I'm hoping it's still a solid camera as the MK III is too rich and 6D is somewhat of a rip off. Thanks.

Sounds like I should get buy a MK II :P

The MKII still floats around 1600~ used here in Toronto, Canada. Harder decision.

Am I reading it wrong? The 6D performs better in half the light of MKIII is able to do??? What does that mean exactly? Focusing in low light?  :o

Yes, AF (with the center point and an f/2.8 or faster lens) is possible in half as much light with the 6D as with the 5DIII/1D X.  In theory, based on specs - whether that holds true in practice remains to be seen.

That makes a huge difference. I don't shoot sports but lots of candid in-motion people. I'm just use to using center point focus on everything I do in low light situations. Now I wonder if I really need all the extra AF points for from the MKIII if the 6D center point is actually that much better and what I'm use to. I never had good enough AF on any of my previous cameras so I just learned to only use center.

AF Center Point:   -3 vs. –2 EV   = 6D is 33% more sensitive in low light

EV, like stops, is log2.  So, not 33% more sensitive, the 6D works in half as much light.

But of the two, I'd still pick the 5DIII.

Where can you sign up for price alerts through Canonpricewatch? I only see notification option for items not in stock.

http://www.canonpricewatch.com/product/03868/Canon-EOS-5D-Mark-III-price.html

Right next to the picture of the camera body there is a link that says:

Get notified by e-mail when in-stock, prices drop, or used/refurbished is available.

Click there and put in your information.  It brings up a pop up, otherwise I'd try and put the direct link here.

Thanks! I'll also just check this forum regularly. That's how I saw the Adoroma deal anyway :)

I don't have mine handy, but I'll check my s/n too and post later.

To those who want to get in on the next round of these deals, I signed up at slickdeals.net and www.canonpricewatch.com.  It was the email from canonpricewatch that got this done for me.  I never got anything from slickdeals.  I thin over there it is harder to predict how people will title their posts and where they will put them, so you have to have LOTS of alerts set.  On canonpricewatch.com it sends a note anytime the mkiii price changes below their listed low price the day you sign up.   You can also sign up for the ebay daily deals alert.  That may help you too.

Good luck everyone!  And Thanks to Ebay, Adorama, and Beach/BuyDig for these deals!

Everyone will just wait for the next.

I bet there are thousands checking ebay every now and than, and hoping they'll get THE deal.  :)

Me  :) Not worth $3500 to me.
