Lenses / Re: Danny Green Talks the Canon EF 100-400 f/4.5-5.6L IS II

Someone also needs to go to Canon Marketing and take away their thesaurus. In order, Green laughs, explains, continues, explains, advises, continues, reveals, reflects, laughs, laughs, (That's two laughs in one paragraph, so it must have been funny), reveals, continues, says, continues, affirms, and concludes. My old writing instructor told me to use say or said most of the time, reserving other verbs for emphasis. This is not good writing style.

Not even close. I would go with number two on this list - $9,000 per megapixel.  :o

Yeah, if my boss allocated $20-30K for my equipment budget I would be careful talking up an alternative kit that cost about 10 percent of that.  ;)

Chuck Norris can shoot action photos without taking off the lens cap and still get five more stops of DR than you

Sony DOES have an excellent track record of bringing top-of-the-line technologies to market in a timely fashion, at a good price, without bugs or glitches, so at least you've got that going for you.  ::) They've become mainstream in every technology they ever were ahead at . . . they're the number one name in TVs, Portable Music Players, Laptops, and, oh yeah, cameras.
Sony also has a history of putting out a lot of proprietary crap in their products that they won't license in the vain hope that people will be trapped into buying Sony branded consumables forever and ever, which led to the doom of Betamax, the Super Audio CD and pretty much anything that needed a Memory Stick, among others.

One grammar nazi point, it should be "whet your appetite" as whet is a synonym for sharpen. Wet as a verb is what a baby does to its diaper.

I think this will be a very solid, well received, and top selling camera. The AF and FPS will be a great help to me, however, not enough to buy one right away. I will likely purchase this camera in 18 months when I think my current 7d will be ready for replacement.

I've never had a chance to play with a 5d. So the mode dial is different than my 7d, as the CA and green mode seem to be combined into a green a+ setting. Is there really any difference here?*

*ETA: Besides people here laughing at you if you admit using it ...  8)

Third Party Manufacturers / Re: How do you say Nikon
« on: September 11, 2014, 12:44:39 PM »
We Americans tend to pronounce the foreign words based on what we think sounds right without being too bothered by how they are pronounced in the native language. So we say it as in icon. It makes it sound more American English, which is smoother and more relaxing than any other English in the world. No offense to our UK or Aussie friends here. Totally personal opinion. ;)
It's true. There is a fairly large group in my area descended from the Metis and they have anglicized most of the names so you run into a lot of Doo-boys (Dubois), Bow-CHAMP (Beauchamp) and Bushies (Boucher).

EOS Bodies / Silly Photokina Rumors
« on: September 06, 2014, 03:00:07 PM »
 ;D
From some of the other threads, it seems like the stress of waiting for significant announcements from our favorite (or not) camera company has made some of us a little testy. So as I public service I am starting a thread for rumors that are OBVIOUSLY AND REALLY TRULY TRUE CUZ I HEARED IT FROM A COUSIN OF MY NEIGHBORS AUNT WHOSE HAIRDRESSER MOONLIGHTS AS THE CEO OF CANON, SO THERE!!!!!

So, the first rumor is that the biggest splash at Photokina will be the surprise introduction by all the major companies of edible DSLR cameras, mainly targeted toward the survivalist community. Sony will try to one up the competition by introducing three edible versions of its Alpha series in beef jerky, chocolate and vegetarian surprise flavors. Nikon teamed up with Food Network's Alton Brown to create a three course camera, with a Caesar Salad lens, filet mignon with caper sauce flavored body and a sensor that doubles as a wafer-thin chocolate mint. Canon's entry into the Food Wars will be an exquisite blend of of kombu and katsuobushi which can be used to create an incredible dashi stock that can be used as the base for hundreds of different dishes.

So, what incredible thing do you think will be announced at Photokina?

The capabilities of any modern, advanced DSLR, whether Canon or Nikon, usually far outstrip the capabilities of the person using it.
That's true. Often, perhaps even predominantly, the key to best photo isn't IQ, DR, AF, MP, or all the other mechanical variables but is ABV.*

EOS Bodies / Re: Are These The EOS 7D Mark II Specifications?

Sounds OK, but not enough to tempt me to upgrade early. Hopefully by the time I want to replace my 7D in early 2016 there will be some killer sales prices and packages available.
