Can any provide a 'better-than-machine-translation' translation of this interview?  I'm struggling to make any sense of the automatic one but unfortunately do not speak japanese!  I'd be really interested to see what was ACTUALLY said.

Cheers!

Wow.  That was one of the most remarkably uninspiring press releases I think I've ever read.  A very long-winded way of saying 'We've got bugger-all new/innovative/exciting things to show you, but come and see us anyway.  Please.'.

however, after a little research, i see the 7d was £1699 when first released, so the mkii isn't going to be less than that!

guess i'll just have to do that bit more overtime to buy it then!

I'm thinking this could be $2499 body only.  Better AF, new sensor with lower noise, 10fps....doesn't sound cheap based on Canon's current pricing history.

i wouldn't object to this if it was offered at a proportionate price over here.  Unfortunately, if something's usually $2499, it doesn't usually translate to £1600.  Try closer to £2000!

I'm really hoping this doesn't crank the price up too much, rather deciding to keep it's position as a prosumer APS-C, affordable to the average consumer like me!  I've been hankering after something like this for ages, I really don't want to be out-priced!

I get the feeling that this means it's going to be vastly more expensive than the 7D was at release!

The 7D noise is certainly the most important to me.
But here's a question - If you have the big MP full frame, why would you need a 7D replacement?

Because maybe not everybody can afford the 'big MP full frame'?

Because maybe not everybody WANTS the 'big MP full frame'!

Any bets if it's gonna be same Sensor tech repackaged... or something new?

I'd love it to be a fantastic new sensor with groundbreaking tech, but the pessimist in me says it'll just be a marginal increase on its predecessor. Having said that, the original 7D was pretty groundbreaking itself, so maybe they'll continue the trend. Good time to showcase some new tech and wouldn't be the first time it's happened in a less-than-1-series camera.

I just hope they keep it as the top of the range enthusiast APS-C it is now, rather than outprice the existing market.  If they release the new big MP camera as rumoured, then they'll have the pro segment covered with that and the 1DX anyway.

Exciting times, roll on more rumours and an announcement date!

that's really disappointing, I was hoping for something more than P&S and printers.

Their midrange SLR range is starting to get tired and old with both the 60D and 7D badly needing replacing. I thought Photokina would have been the perfect platform to have launched something new and fresh to hit back at Nikon after their recent releases.

Oh well, I guess we'll just have to wait.  Again.

whilst i'd love the 7d2 to be announced, my honest feeling is that they'll not announce anything of consequence.  i think we would have heard more in the way of rumours if they were going to release stuff.

bummer.

sounds like a fair replacement to me.  i wish this was true, but gut feeling is that someone has just sent in their wishlist.

let's hope when it does come though, it remains at APS-C!
