EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: Canon EOS 7D Firmware Version 2 Coming Soon
« on: June 10, 2012, 05:58:13 AM »Quote from: Canon's Marketing Team"Oh crap, we've got all these old 7D bodies lying around that aren't selling (because of the 5D2 getting cheaper, or the D3200, K5, NEX-7, or whatever), and we need to get rid of them before the 7D mk 2 is announced in a few months".
"I know, let's take the firmware from the new 7D2, it won't cost us anything much to port it to the 7D, demand for the 7D will pick back up again and help us clear stocks before we drop the 7D2."
Or am I too cynical?
i like that kind of cynical. let's hope it works!

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: Canon EOS 7D Firmware Version 2 Coming Soon
« on: June 09, 2012, 01:51:55 PM »Um, didn't Canon just do this with the 1DX?They took the flagship IDs line and the inferior ID line and merged them together to make one of the most advanced DSLR's ever made.
<rant>
This isn't aimed at anyone in particular, more at a viewpoint that I disagree with. The quote just illustrates my argument.
Why must less megapixels always mean that a camera is "inferior"? The 1Ds and 1D were both professional cameras, aimed at different markets and, therefore, designed with different specs. That Canon are now able to combine these due to advances in manufacturing processes does not make the 1D any more inferior or any less the professional camera. I cannot understand this mentality that a camera must be crammed with megapixels and be FF to be the professional. I'm sure that there are many wildlife and sports photgraphers out there who would take exception to being called less professional because they aren't shooting FF at 30MP.
It's just about having the best tool for the job in hand.

EOS Bodies / Re: Touch Screen in Future Full-Frames?
« on: June 08, 2012, 09:30:16 AM »A Vari Angle screen?
You mean a 'break me off' screen? I think that can stay off the more pro bodies, for I know there would be breakages.
I'd quite like one on a 7D! At the end of the day, if you don't want to snap it off, you just leave it permanently stowed against the body.

am i allowed to start dreaming about this again now the 650D has been announced? Might give some hints as to what to expect if the 7D2 were to come about.
The new 18MP hybrid APS-C sensor, the new video perks, touchscreen etc (who knows about whether it would be vari-angle though)
All this on top of the standard increases, maybe an extra fps or 2, better iso performance, Digic 5(+) or 2! Keep it all packaged in a roughly similar body to the 7D (Mag alloy etc).
Here's hoping Photokina brings something nice for us all

« on: May 14, 2012, 05:15:28 PM »Just saw this on Vimeo and thought it was really interesting. I'm a Canon man at heart, but have to say that what this camera can do looks incredible - the video is just brilliant! I don't know how the 5D3 compares, can anyone shed any light on whether it competes with this? Is this what we have to look forward to from the next generation of Canon cameras too?

EOS Bodies / Re: Canon 7D Mark II Info? [CR2]

BEST. NEWS. EVER!
I've been waiting for hints of the MkII and this sounds like a logical progression to the original. No vast leaps in tech, but then I wouldn't expect that really. Hopefully we'll be hearing more about it soon, keep the good news rolling CRGuy!

EOS Bodies / Re: Canon 7Dmk2 any rumors??
« on: April 02, 2012, 05:49:24 PM »
What's to say they won't just do away with the xxxxD line? Wasn't this the latest addition in terms of lines? That way, the current xxxxD becomes xxxD, xxxD to xxD etc, the lines pretty much return to their original placings and once again regain some degree of separation. I know they won't be exactly how they used to be, but makes more sense to me than getting rid of the 7D line, or relegating it.

« on: April 02, 2012, 12:41:51 PM »I just check current pricing for EOS bodies and noticed at 7D "Replacement: 6 months" so does that mean we are going to see 7D Mark II in Photokina?I hope so! I'll be in the market for one. TBH, I'll probably just get the existing one once I can afford it, it still looks like an excellent performer and the noise that everyone talks about, I really don't think it's that bad. If I hadn't just spent so much on GoPro stuff for my honeymoon, I'd be looking at getting it now.

brand new good reliable seller
then get a grip later if you think you need it
I bought my 400D off these guys years ago. It was so quick and I've never had issue with it. The only problem I had was that I got charged an import tax by the courier company, which I didn't know was going to happen. Wasn't a huge amount of money, more an annoyance really.
I think they've grown up as a company since then so don't think you'll go too wrong with it.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: What next for the 7D?
« on: March 14, 2012, 04:58:49 AM »FF would completely ruin the 7D mk II. If you want FF with good AF, the 5D mk III is the camera for you. The biggest attraction of the 7D is it's high speed AF on a 1.6x crop body.
The 7D successor will not be anything other than APS-C.I really hope not too! I have to say I don't understand this thinking that everything must be full frame and that it's the only way to go. I love my APS-C, even though it is a dodgy old 400D. The reach that the crop factor enables me is great, I just wouldn't be able to do that with FF.
I'm hoping they announce a 7D MkII soon, but looking back at the previous announcements, it could be a while. Being really geeky, there were 349 days between the 5D MkII being announced and the 7D. If you took their refresh cycles as identical, then the 7D will be announced on Thursday 14th February 2013. Or Valentines days. Hmm, I sure they could build an Ad campaign around that!

EOS Bodies / Re: The Next 5D on February 27/28, 2012 [CR3]
« on: February 24, 2012, 09:42:19 AM »absolutely NO mention is made about the sensor' size in the specs.
Could very well be the 7D II.
Anyone think the same?
I hope not. I can't wait for a 7d mkii but don't want it at that price range or to have a drop in frame rate. I worry for the future of the 7d if comments around here are to be believed about merging it with the 5 series.

Software & Accessories / Portable Memory Card Backup
« on: February 15, 2012, 05:28:42 PM »
Hi,
I'm hoping you guys might be able to help me out. I'm going on honeymoon at the end of April to Antigua and, being the first time I've been there, I plan on taking plenty of photos/timelapses/videos. Before anyone pipes up, yes, I know it's my honeymoon, but the other half is (almost) as keen as I am when it comes to geeking out with a camera! We're only taking a wee point and shoot and my new GoPro that I ordered yesterday, so plan on having plenty of still, but also some videos. We decided against the SLR due to baggage limits and lugging it round standing out like a sore thumb!
So, on to my dilemma! I currently only own one 4GB class 6 SD card (my 400d uses CF, so never had much need for SD before this!). I plan on getting a couple more cards with more capacity, but figure they won't stretch to last the whole holiday. I wondered whether there was some kind of HDD out there that allowed me to back up my cards directly to it without the the need to take a laptop with me. I basically want to stick the card straight into the HDD, hit a button, back it up and re-use the card.
Having had a look round Google, all the options I see are either getting quite old now or are by brands I've never heard of. Does anyone know of any currently available decent options from trustworthy or proven manafacturers? Or can anyone suggest another option (other than taking my laptop!)
Cheers,
Mike

EOS Bodies / Re: Realistic projections on when a 7D II might hit the scene?
« on: January 26, 2012, 06:21:35 AM »
I'd like to see a replacement sooner, but as it was a new line, there's no precedent set for its replacement. I don't think it's unreasonable to think that it'll come along this year at some point as its about two and a half years old (ish) I think, having come out mid-2009. I just hope, against a lot of discussion on this site, that it remains at APS-C. I think that a change to FF would upset a lot of people!

EOS Bodies / Re: *UPDATE* 5D Mark III Sighting?
« on: January 24, 2012, 02:53:06 PM »Interesting that the "originator" of this series of images claims not to have touched them. Yet in one shot I can clearly read Canon under the rear LCD but in another it has been very roughly blacked over.
Looks like someone has been fibbing to us!
i think that's because there's 2 different cameras in the series of photos. it was mentioned earlier on...
