Lenses / Re: The Sigma 35mm Art is Toasting Canon's?
« on: September 18, 2014, 09:16:06 AM »
If you think about it...  like any kind of review (tripadvisor springs to mind) the majority of comments are either amazing or crap, as people generally comment if it falls into one of the two categories.

If i had to choose between the two to buy (i have neither), i would try to pick up a second hand 35L, if i could not do that or get a good deal on it, then i would get the sigma...  the L lenses last and the longevity of the sigma is yet unknown. if i really needed a 35, i would get the f/2 as i would be using it for street mainly, and i think it is more discrete. :)

I guess it also depends on what else you have...  I have the 24L and 40 pancake, i find that a winning combo! :)

Lenses / Re: Would you buy a hypothetical 85mm f/1.4L portrait lens if...
« on: September 18, 2014, 09:08:22 AM »
Perhaps it is because i have never really used the 85mm (any of them), but i do not find myself using that focal length a lot (according to lightroom). So i probably would not buy a new one. :)

I love my 70-200 for portraits....

maybe i should give one a go, though i fear it might be like taking hard drugs and i'll be addicted....

From what i hear about focussing speed, it does need a wee update. I'm sure it is in the pipeline somewhere... Canon are not dumb....  money grabbing b*stards (I am originally from the UK), but not dumb!

I would stick with the 5D.... You might be able to sell it to cover the cost of the 7D alone, but not have enough for a prime (other than a 50 1.8 at best).

I'd stick, and am going to, never mind my GAS.

Also, wait for the reviews and real world tests, and maybe wait another 6 months for the price to level and for them to fix all the firmware crap that comes with a new camera! :)

EOS Bodies / LP-E6N on the 7D MK II
« on: September 18, 2014, 08:48:50 AM »
Hi all,

I read/heard somewhere (can't remember where now grrr) that the 7D MK II will also accept the 'old' LP-E6 batteries, and not just the newer higher capacity LP-E6N. Does anyone know if the reverse is true? Would the LP-E6N work on a 7/6/5D?

Also, given the likelihood of the 5D MKIV probably having the same new battery, what do you think the chances of it also accepting the older LP-E6?

Lenses / Re: Is This a Canon EF 11-24 f/4L?
« on: September 18, 2014, 04:23:26 AM »
I call fake...  the focus and zoom rings look like the older style (24-105, 17-40) as opposed to the newer (24-70 II, 16-35).

Saying that, i'm happy if it is not!

EOS Bodies / Re: High ISO Samples from the Canon EOS 7D Mark II

WOW...  that does look good...  but if it had not been a major ISO improvement, it was going to be a dud!

Makes me think "what will the 1dxII/5dIV be like"? :) good times

This kind of makes me want to get an SL-1.  I feel like I could carry it in a cargo pocket on my pants....DSLR point and shoot style.

This is going right on my wife's SL1/100D!  She loves the 40mm, but wants wider! And it is her birthday soon...  good timing for me! :D

PS - does anyone know when it will be available? :D

Is RAW worth it? - Yes...  as long as you want to edit them and get the most out of your images.
No - if you don't want to have to do any post-processing!

Can't wait!  I'm only interested in the putative new pancake (and that is for my wife, not me), but it still very exciting!

Lenses / Announcements before Photokina
« on: September 09, 2014, 01:33:29 AM »
Don't new announcements usually occur BEFORE a big even like Photokina?

If so, surely we should be getting press release notifications soon? Does anyone know of any NDA's finishing soon (even if they do not know the content of it)?

I'm super keen for the new pancake! :)

I find there is a direct correlation between my shutter count and the number of times in that period I have managed to head to a national park...  :)

For street and general photography my shutter count is low ('high' keeper rate, 2/5 perhaps), but when i go to a national park, it is more like 1/10-100! :)

Lenses / Re: Lens price drops around the world
« on: September 05, 2014, 03:59:45 AM »
From what i am hearing, it is US only...  but other countries have dropped a bit.  I just hope that it drops a bit here in India...  I've been saving a long time for my 500 f/4 and would be miffed to buy and then it loose value right away!
