EOS Bodies / Monitor & Color Questions
« on: February 24, 2014, 01:59:24 PM »
Open ended question: I am shopping for a monitor within $400 or so & wanted to ask general advice from folks. Mainly, I wanted to ask what is the make, model & technology (IPS vs TN) do you guys use and would you recommend the monitor you have or any other monitors in general? Does it make sense to spend the extra on IPS when you have to calibrate it anyway, and does a calibrated IPS monitor show the same colors as a calibrated non-IPS monitor? Any thoughts on these questions are appreciated.

EOS Bodies / Canon 70D Auto ISO Increments
« on: September 26, 2013, 12:16:37 PM »
I just read a comment on a forum saying that the Canon 70D, when set to Auto ISO only chooses ISO's in one stop increments. So for e.g. if ISO 800 is not enough, it will jump to ISO 1600, and will not select ISO 1000 or ISO 1250 in AUTO ISO. Similarly if ISO 3200 is not enough, it will jump to ISO 6400 and will not use ISO 4000/5000. (Assuming you have set max ISO to 6400).

I would think that by setting ISO increments to 1/3 stops (C. Fn I-2, page 365 of 70d user manual) ISO will increase in 1/3 stops, even in AUTO ISO. Can 70D owners kindly confirm this for me ? I don't have one, but am considering buying one and AUTO ISO is a part of my shooting style.

And yes - I know if I have a problem with higher ISO's I can use Manual ISO and all that - as I mentioned, it's a part of my shooting style and I want to keep it that way.

Third Party Manufacturers / Experiences Switching From Nikon
« on: September 25, 2013, 01:43:26 PM »
I wanted to ask if any Canon users here have switched from Nikon and if so what are their experiences? Specifically can you please comment on:

- What Nikon bodies, lenses, flashes you were using and what you are using now
- Experiences surrounding gear quality
- Other experiences in general.
- How long have you used Canon for and would you do it again?

Specifically if anybody has any experience going from Nikon D300s to Canon 7d &/or Nikon 17-55/24-70 to Canon versions of these lenses, please do chime in. I am considering a switch (I slightly prefer Canon ergonomics and also believe that Canon 7D image quality is superior to Nikon D300s). You would think it would be easy to find opinions of those who have switched on the internet, but apparently not.

Thanks - and do note that isn't meant to inflame a Canon vs Nikon thing in any way.

EOS Bodies / 60D/7D Users & AUTO ISO @ Events
« on: September 04, 2013, 02:34:40 PM »
I had a question for 60d/7D/5DMK2 users: In many situations, when shooting on M one doesn't have time to adjust shutter, aperture, ISO etc. for e.g. events with moving subjects and areas of varying exposure. I would prefer to shoot Aperture Priority with AUTO ISO (since noise levels are perfectly acceptable to me upto maybe ISO 3200). However, this is out of the question since the camera often selects shutter speeds which are ridiculously low and there is no minimum shutter speed setting like the new Canons or older Nikons. If I choose Shutter priority, the camera will select whatever aperture it wants, which I may or may not need. It seems like AUTO ISO is only helpful in M mode.

I was just wondering, for those of you who shoot in these types of situations, how do you shoot? What are your settings? Do you always shoot on Manual and adjust shutter, ISO, aperture? How does one use AUTO ISO without the min shutter speed functionality.

Thoughts appreciated. Thanks.

EOS Bodies / COSTCO Deal
« on: October 06, 2012, 09:39:35 PM »
just saw a deal in Costco, thought it was a good one so figured I'd share: Canon 7D + 28-135mm USM lens + 320 EX Flash + 8GB CF card: $1799.

Just thought this is a good deal for this in the market for the awesome 7d.
