Software & Accessories / Kirk BH-1 or RRS BH-55 Ballhead?
« on: Today at 04:46:56 PM »
Hi people...

I'm trying to decide whether to buy the Kirk BH-1 or RRS BH-55 Ballhead.
Anyone have any suggestions for me or experience with these?
I'm in the UK and can buy the Kirk easily here but would have to buy the RRS head from the US and pay for import charges and wait longer for delivery. I've worked out that the cost will be pretty much the same for either option.

Another bit of info is that my camera and lens plates are Kirk plates, but as I understand these will work with RRS.

Thanks for reply Surapon.
Yes it seems to me most people use a continuous ring light for macro video, similar to the one you linked to.
I guess I need to literally try out the options to see what works best.

Lighting / LED lighting for Macro Video
« on: August 16, 2014, 07:09:57 AM »
Hi people..
I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions for continuous lighting for macro video?
Specifically filming using the MP-E 65mm Macro Photo lens. I'm experienced with taking still shots with this tricky lens, but just getting round to thinking about filming with it on my 5DIII.
I have the MT-24EX Twin light macro flash and wonder if adding either a Manfrotto ML120 or ML240 led light to the hotshoe mounts on the flash head lens bracket from this would work?

Anyone do the same sort of thing? Or have alternative suggestions?

Software & Accessories / Re: Step Up Ring 77-82 for 70-200 f2.8L II ?

Thanks Neuroanatomist.
I fear I may end up going the route of spending out to get another CPL in 77mm.
Too fiddly otherwise.

Software & Accessories / Step Up Ring 77-82 for 70-200 f2.8L II ?
« on: June 29, 2014, 06:24:40 PM »
I've just got a B+W XS-PRO CPL for my 24-70 f2.8L II and want to use it for my 70-200 F2.8L II which of course requires a 77-82 step up ring.

I know the one I'd buy, the Heliopan ring as it's made of brass. The question I have is it a usable solution using a step up ring for this lens? I'm guessing the lens hood won't fit. If anyone has any firsthand experience could they give me some advise? Cheers.

Oh it feels very smooth when rotating through the whole turn :)
It does seem to be getting even better with use as you say.
Really brings out the colours and enables you to get better exposure balance on the land part of the image when including a bright sky. Definitely will benefit my travel shots.

Just got this filter for my 24-70 f2.8L II.
It's actually my first CP filter. I've tried it out briefly and it certainly does what it's supposed to. Love it.
The only thing I wanted to ask people who have this particular filter is if when turning the outer ring do you occasionally get a slight 'shooshing' sound like it's slightly rubbing every now and again on the turn? It's still rotates really nice and smooth when it does it though which is good.

I have the BR attached to my battery grips on both my 5D Mark II & III with no issues.

Cheers, yeah I've got the Kirk plate for the BG-E11 Grip now and BR strap feels fine attached to it.

'A Few EOS 7D Mark II Specs'..
Is that 'Specs' short for 'Speculations'?  ;)

Thanks guys.
I've got the OEM BG-E11 grip, and yeah I need to buy the Kirk plate specifically for the grip. Hopefully my large hands will be fine around the plate and FastenR when in vertical/portrait 'mode'.

Yeah I always connect to the lens collar with the heavy glass. Already got the Kirk plate for the 70-200 f2.8L II collar. Must say I'm really impressed with the Kirk stuff and how snug the custom fit is.

Hi fellow forum'ites, I've only just switched to the Black Rapid system after contemplating it for some time. I'm really loving it. Still getting used to having my gear hanging by my side but feels safer than I imagined it would.

I've gone the route many have in that I have an RS-Sport strap attached to a 1" QR Kirk clamp which either clamps on to my 5D Mark III Kirk camera plate or my 70-200 f2.8L II tripod collar Kirk plate. Really love this setup. I use the Stealth FastenR too to keep things nice and quiet.

However I've also got the battery grip for my camera and so if I want to attach the strap to this in the same way I'd need to buy the Kirk plate designed specially for the grip.

Before I spend more money I'd like to ask what people's thoughts are on connecting the Black Rapid to a battery grip?
I'm satisfied with the weight hanging from the tripod mounts on the body and lens collar but I just worry that hanging all that weight on the battery grip could cause problems. Not so much with the tripod screw mount on it but the strain on the connection between where the grip and body attach together.

Am I worrying needlessly?  :o Any thoughts welcome.

Speedlites, Printers, Accessories / Re: 600-ex-rt upgrade?
« on: May 26, 2014, 08:13:37 PM »
People would like to see RT added to the MT-24 replacement, especially since the MR-14 was just replaced with a second optical version.

Count me among those people.

Yeah me too!

Speaking of which, has there been any talk of a MT-24EX Macro Twin Lite replacement coming soon?

shadow and light created by objects...
Reminds me about a flash or something. May be some EX-440-RT.

I was thinking the same thing. I don't know what's in that picture, but it doesn't look like a flash, I could look like a elinchrom quadra style head. I think canon should make a 600-1200 Ws battery flash fully compatible with the st-e3 and speedlites. Surprised they have left all that to ProFoto, Elinchrom and others.

The object in the photo is a Chawan (Japanese Tea Bowl).
Think it's just an obvious object to illustrate the text used in the teaser.
My guess too is that it's most likely flash related.

Hang on, have we gone back to the 1st of this month again?  ;)

Seriously though I don't really see much point in white bodies myself when your going to eventually put a black lens on it. I even think the 'white' L lenses would clash on it as they're not true white like this is.

Oh well if some people like it that's the main thing I suppose.
