Lenses / Canon 135mm f2 L
« on: April 18, 2012, 01:18:12 PM »
So, I see a lot of people complaining that this lens needs IS. Does anyone here that own it feel like it truly does? Is it mostly because of the focal length? It's fast aperture seems like it wouldn't warrant that you would need IS in most situations.

I find myself mostly shooting handheld street shots and this lens seems that it would draw a lot less attention.

Lastly, reviews seem phenomenal. I'm assuming most of the community here feels the same?

Thanks for the opinions!

I didn't see any topics on this yet. Any users here any experience with it? Seems like a well priced high quality landscape zoom lens.

Reviews seem pretty positive so far.

Would love to hear some impressions or feedback!

Lenses / Canon 50mm 1.2
« on: April 07, 2012, 03:09:22 PM »
Is this lens really as bad as people say it is? I've been going back and forth on it and it's reviews for a couple weeks now and you can't really seem to find a general consensus.

Some hate it, some love it. Back focus issues, no back focus issues. Unsharp images, sharp images.

I don't think I've ever read so many lens reviews that disagree with each other.

Anyone here have any comments, insights, criticism, feedback about this lens?

I would love to hear it. I had picked up the 85mm 1.2 and I really loved the images it produced, but for what I'm using it for it was too long and put me in to tight of situations to take the photo's I wanted to.

I had the 50mm 1.8 ii some time ago and I love that focal length. I previously had the zeiss 1.4 and I've read that the canon 1.2 is much better in terms of sharpness and bokeh.

I would love to hear some actual owners comment tho!

Thanks guys!

I just did the exact same thing, Seamus! I'm loving the 85L so far! I'll pick up the 24-70 later this year after it's easily available and has a canon rebate on it - towards christmas or something.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / 5DMK3 - Af question
« on: March 29, 2012, 04:08:53 PM »
So, I just got my 5DMK3 in the mail (yay) and I'm completely confused by this AF system.

For some reason it's set to "Single Point AF (Manual Selection) - if I go in to my "select AF area selec. Mode option (the 4th sub option under AF) I have a series of choices :

SPOT AF
SINGLE POINT AF
AF POINT EXPANSION
AF POINT EXPANSION (SURROUNDING POINTS)
ZONE AF
61 POINT AF

I can choose to Check or Uncheck my choices - I can check and uncheck all but the second one (it won't even allow me to highlight it) SINGLE POINT AF.

When I look through the viewfinder I can either configure it to see only that SINGLE POINT AF or the 61 POINT AF (however, the 61 point af lights up every AF point no matter how or what I'm shooting - it's not showing me what i'm specifically focusing on).

Sorry if this doesn't make much sense - it's very confusing. I've read through the entire AF section of the manual and I cannot seem to figure this out.

I'm used to either Nikon - where it will light up the focused AF boxes or the old Canon's (5dmk2) where it would also only light up what was in focus.

The MK3 keeps allowing only SINGLE AF or the 61 where it all lights up.

Help :(

Thanks!

Lots of love for the Sigma. I'll look in to some reviews on it! The images that come out of that canon look beyond dreamy. I already have the 70-200 2.8 is usm II, so I was really leaning towards the new 24-70 2.8 usm II...but I was shooting with the 85 a few days ago on my old 5DMK2 and it was out of this world.

I'm kinda torn at the moment and I keep bouncing back and forth on these two lenses.

:/

Thanks for the reply! Yeah, I wasn't too sure if it was more based on the af motor of the lens or the af engine of the camera - or even a combination of both.

Appreciate the response! :)

My 5D MK3 will be here on Thursday and I've been looking a new lens to accompany it.

I know a lot of people complain about the slow focusing of the 85mm f1.2 II. Does the improved AF engine in the 5DMK3 increase the AF speeds of this lens in any way?

Anyone using the 85 with their new MK3?

Would love to hear some insight!

Thanks guys!

Spoke with Best Buy today and they said my camera would be shipping March 31st - that's a Saturday so I'm not really believing it.

If I do a new order today it shows me that it will be shipping on March 23rd.

I'm gonna try calling again tomorrow.

EOS Bodies / Re: 5D Mk. III Best Buy Pre-Order
« on: March 10, 2012, 11:33:42 PM »
It's actually listed as free shipping atm! If you order in store it's always free shipping too! The only stores that will have in stock release day will be stores that stock their higher end cameras - not all stores carry the higher end products. I would call and find out which bby's in your area stock the 5DmkII - that would be a good indicator of which stores will potentially carry the mark III.

Excellent financing, reward zone points, their ADH warranties are awesome.

I'd totally recommend it.

I preordered mine from bby.com release day!
