EOS Bodies / Canon 5D Mark III preproduction models
« on: March 03, 2012, 09:45:03 AM »
With the unveiling of the 5Dmk3 and it's specs (which I am completely excited about and have already preordered mine at best buy) what do you guys think were the specifications of the other "test" models that were out there in photographers hands?

I remember reading before (like the new 24-70) that they had multiple variations out testing with pro photographers.

How different do you think the specs were on those cameras? Will we ever find out what else the 5Dmk3 "could've" been?

Just curious!

Lenses / Canon 24-70mm f2.8 USM II Pre-orders!
« on: February 27, 2012, 01:29:17 PM »
Hey guys,

I've been going back and forth on whether I should invest my money in the new 5DMKIII that is bound to be out shortly or the new Canon 24-70 f2.8 II.

My 5DMKII does an admirable job already and I can't think of a reason why "I" would need to upgrade to the MKIII (save for tech envy) so I decided to put my money on the new 24-70 instead.

Preordered mine from BHPhoto this morning. Curious however, with a ship date of April 17th and large distributor's such as BHphoto - how long do you think it will take them to fulfill preorders? Would I be better off buying it locally or at another smaller online retailer where most people wouldn't go to?

With BH being so large, I'm sure that will impact their allotment during the initial shipment of the lens. This is my first time pre-ordering camera tech before and I'm just kind of curious what the turn around time might look like!

Thanks!

Maybe it's just me but it seems hard to tell with your comparison photo's of those two lenses - they look like the lighting is different in both environments and it's skewing the colors.

not as huge of a collection as some on here lol :/ I keep going back and forth on which lenses fit best in my lineup.

I went to the Cleveland Browns vs Baltimore Ravens game last year in Cleveland and I had no issues carrying in my 5DMarkII and Nikon 85 1.4.

I recently went to a Cavs game about 2 weeks ago...I was kinda apprehensive since I now have the 70-200mm f2.8 is usm II and it's xbox huge. No problems tho!

Did you check the stadiums guidelines before you headed out? I never have, I just assume that it's alright to bring a camera to a sporting event like these, but maybe it's a stadium specific rule?

This is perfect! I was just about to ask for some tripod advice!

I don't need/want to invest a ton of money in to a tripod, but I've been looking at the Oben ones on BHphoto.

Never heard much of this brand...good/bad/other?

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/687336-REG/Oben_AC_1420_BA_1_AC_1420_4_Section_Aluminum_Tripod.html

This is the one I was looking at. I'll mostly be using it for nighttime photography and some landscape.

Thoughts? I'm looking for something that will be pretty sturdy. Any suggestions welcome (i'm not looking to drop gitzo money tho :p)

Thanks!

United States / Re: B&H Warranty
« on: December 20, 2011, 11:14:31 AM »
Extended warranty saved my butt on my 5dmk2 twice now. Once was due to stuck pixels. All my shots had multiple red stuck pixels in them after a year of shooting and I took it in under the extended warranty I purchased - 1 week later they approved it for an exchange for a brand new one!

Honestly - for me - it's a huge investment in a piece of technology that is going to be used extensively. I like having that piece of mind if something happens, I'm covered. Accidents happen - how many times a day do I drop my phone/ipod/etc?

It's something I would rather have and not need than need and not have.

To the people that say they are worthless - good for you, you are a lot braver than I when spending 2k + on a piece of man made technology that is capable of breaking.

I would never buy a car without a warranty and in my experience, the same has held true with electronics. Sure it's a gamble, but I would rather be on the covered side of that gamble.

just my two cents.

Software & Accessories / Audio Recording Device
« on: December 13, 2011, 05:28:19 PM »
Hi guys,

I'm shooting with a Canon 5D Mark II atm - primarily for pictures. I've been dipping in the waters of recording audio/video recently and I'm wondering what's the best solution for external audio - in a smaller handheld solution.

I've been looking at

 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001QWBM62/ref=s9_simh_gw_p229_d0_g267_i6?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=0ABJF0PJTPVCQFDTZF5C&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=470938631&pf_rd_i=507846

and

http://www.amazon.com/Sony-PCM-M10-Portable-Recorder-High-Speed/dp/B002R56C4O/ref=wl_it_dp_o_npd?ie=UTF8&coliid=I37M8V421A1593&colid=3VUOY06DUED5O

Is one better than the other? They both seem to get very positive reviews. Is there something better or different that I would want to look at?

How would you connect these devices to the camera to record audio? Or would that be something that is merged together post production? If so - recommendations for what software to link the audio and video up together to match?

Thanks for any help!

Canon General / Re: Carl Zeiss 21mm F2.8 Canon Mount

te4o, out of curiousity, does it have AF confirmation when you manually focus? The 50 1.4 does, I'm just not sure if that's how all of the zeiss lenses operate on canon bodies.

Thanks.

rumorzmonger, I also have that matte percision focusing screen and it does wonders for focusing on lenses 2.8 in my 5D II. Is the ID III different from this?

Curious! :)

Not really a Canon lens...but it has a Canon mount! I've been going back and forth on my next lens purchase and I cannot decide.

I am shooting with a 5Dmkii and the only lens in my current lineup is the 70-200mm is usm ii and Zeiss 50mm 1.4. I've been looking for a nice wideangle landscape lens.

Everything I've read has been pretty tremendous about the zeiss 21mm.

I'm curious if anyone on this board has had any personal experience with it? recommend it? other suggestions?

Thanks!
