Lenses / Re: TS-E 45mm & TS-E 90mm Finally Getting Replaced? [CR1]
« on: March 15, 2013, 11:55:56 AM »
I'm not sure if I'm going to put my $ into Canon gear anymore ???
Canon is dead set on becoming "the new Leica".

Once the full frame NEX comes out, I see no reason for me to spend more money on Canon.

The rumored 14-24L is very interesting, but the price tag is going to be hellish (I'm guessing more than 2500 bucks!) .. And besides, they still don't have a worthy sensor for this lens.

By the way. If this had been a Nikon event, and new Nikon gear were to be announced, it would already be revealed at Nikonrumors, with pics and info.

Why is Nikon so much better at leaking their stuff?

Bring on the lenses now Canon. :P

How about 14-24L, 35L II and 135L f/1.8 IS ?  ;D

^ agreed. 35mm is not boring at all. It is the prime world's jack of all trades.

I even thought about selling my 35L and replace it with the Sony RX1.. But then I heard rumors about the full frame Nex.  :-X

Uber sharp 14-24L or 16-35L III.
Bring it on.

Considering the already insane price of the 14mm 2.8 II, I fear the worst if a III version were to be launched
Insane indeed.

$2400 14mm f/2.8 L
VS
$370 Samyang 14mm

And many tests has proven that the Sammy is equaly as good as the 14L.. Except for the lack of AF, but who cares?  :P

Canon, please stop being insane.

I really do not understand why Sony did not produce an RX-2 alongside the RX-1 ... with a lens mount. They do not even have to worry about "Cannibalizing" their DSLRs (or rather their sub-par SLTs) ... since those are not sold in worthwile numbers anyway. Sony could have gone ALL OUT and create the first real FF compact camera that beats a Leica M9 by a hige margin ... at a third of the price.  There is a HUGE amrket for such a camera + a range of ultra-compact, but decent pancake lenses and a high-end, ultra-compact / foldable 24-70/f 4.0 kit lens.

I think (hope) that you (we) will soon get what we ask for. :)

While Canon has failed us, there has been a steady steam of rumors about mirrorless frull frame cameras from Sony, Pentax, Samsung and Fuji.

It is bound to happen. Hopefully this year or 2014.

FF sensor in compact body(like RX1) + pancake fast prime lenses(14,16,35,50,85,135, and or 200mm) = BIG SALE

Yawn. If Canon would look to the RX1 for some inspiration, then I might consider it.

A full frame mirrorless from Canon (with inrerchangable lens system), is my dream camera.

But Canon will never do it. They are too afraid of stepping on their own toes.

Third Party Manufacturers / Re: Nikon 7100 has been anounced
« on: February 21, 2013, 07:44:22 AM »
YES Nikon, bring 'em on!  8)

oh boy, I just love this!

D7100 makes the 70D look a total looser already. Destroyed on the ground. I confidently expect the D7100 sensor to have 1.5 EV better dynamic range and way better per-pixel sharpness than whatever sorry ppiece of sensor cr*p Canon will be willing to put into the 70D ... bye bye AA-Filter!

And iI also expect the price to be lower than the 70D ... like D7000 vs. 60D and D800 vs. 5D III ... hehehehe!

Really hope, Nikon will soon follow this up with a D400  that destroys an "incrmentally updated" 7D Mk II - as per the CR specs (!). Double whammy!
Yes, yes and yes.

I agree with everything you said, but strangely enough, Canon will easily outsell the D7100, just like outsold the D800 with the 5D3.

Canon is still riding high on their "good name", and it seems they'll be able to do so for many years ahead.  :-\ Sad but true.

Another body from Nikon without AA-filter. Well done.

And Canon still has zero.  :'( Could this be because of their love for video?

IMHO, it makes more sense to build a high megapixel body around the 5D platform, as the 1-series build quality and form factor are overkill for studio work. A lot of the used 1DsIII bodies on ebay have well over 100,000 clicks but look practically new.

seems about right. wise words. for studio use you won't need a brick...

Same thing can be said about landscaping and hiking / traveling.

Low FPS but high MP and great DR - Perfect trade off! :)

High MP - Canon have certainly demonstrated a willingness and ability to go there.  Good DR they have.  Great DR?  That remains to be seen - Canon's sensor development efforts to date appear to not have been focused in that area.
That is a very good point. But I'm hoping that the recent critique against Canon, and also Sony's achievements with the exmor sensor, has forced Canon to spend more dollars on sensor R&D.

After all, when it comes to technical innovation, Canon has become more of a follower than a leader.

I'm still thinking that the 5D3 will have a quick replacement, most likely some time in the second half of 2014. Maybe sooner than that if we are lucky.

Either way, high MP will mean low fps.

Nice deal. :)

I've been an Apple user ever since i picked up photography, and I must say; these computers are truly the photographers best friend. (Next to the camera gear itself, of course.)  ;D

A friend who shoots Nikon has the 14-24 and 16-35. He sold the 14-24 because he found it too wide and not long enough for people shots.
Well obviously. The 14-24 is a landscape lens. A landscapers wet dream.  :D

However, a 16-35mm can also be a landscapers wet dream, as long as it is.. *drumm roll*.. sharp across the frame. The current 16-35L is far from adequate.
