5D MK III Sample Images / Re: 5D3 HRD pretty nice

I won't be a fan of in camera HDR until it lets you save the result as a raw-file or .tiff.

All that data reduced to a mere jpeg won't cut it for me.

I will continue to blend my files manually.

Lenses / Re: about 85L III
« on: April 24, 2012, 04:28:05 PM »
I am about to buy the 85L II.

If any L prime lens needs an upgrade, it is the 50L. Not sharp enough and has far too many issues. (focus shift, e.t.c.)

*smite* ... do you consider this good style?
I know. I'm just having a bad day.

It's because of dlsrs as a luxury commodity, too - they are much less expensive than other recreations: sports car, sports like golf, ...
Explain to me why dslrs can be seen as a luxury comodity, more than a high end PC, flat screen 3D-TV or an Ipad 3?

It is a tool. Nothing more, nothing less.

We all want stuff to be better, but don't want it to cost more.  Well, that's unrealistic.  If Canon is going to improve their cameras and lenses, they're going to expect to charge more too.  That's the way the world works.
Perhaps the dumbest statement of the year.

if there were any truth in what you are saying, then TV's, camcorders, computers, cellphones, tablets, (and other gear) would also get more and more expensive each year. But in reality they DON'T! In fact, technology becomes better and cheaper each year.

About 5 years ago I spent $2500 on a new flat screen TV, and also bought a new high end computer. Today I can get a way better TV for much less, and a better computer for almost half the price.

There is no excuse for Canon' ridiculous pricing! ..But hey, I guess they can get away with it. Photographers seem to pay whatever it takes to get the latest gear, and I am sure that Canon is well aware of this.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: 5D Mark III Spot Meter
« on: April 22, 2012, 05:35:27 PM »
I cant believe it cant do this, considering the cost of the camera.

As I and others have stated, Canon needs to differentiate their lines.  The 1D X has AF point-linked spot metering (as did previous 1-series bodies).  Unfortunately, Canon isn't likely to put all of the 1-series features in a lesser body, despite the fact that everyone seems to think they should.  Honestly, I was really surprised that Canon put the 1D X's AF sensor into the 5DIII, something I'm sure you can appreciate having shot with the 5DII.

and here you should please explain me why nikon offer this function even on their $600 entry level dslr if it's something so special that has to be available only on canon's flagship (and maybe we even have to thank for it...)
So true. Nikon also offer pro AF and weather sealing on all their cameras.

It seems that they care more about sales as a whole than messing around with silly market segmentation.

Canon somehow forgot to add this feature on the 5D3. However, it is avalible on the D800, together with other nifty features like facial tracking and an overall better sensor.

Yes, those features will come in quite handy for portraits with the Nikon 85mm f/1.2 lens, or the truly excellent Nikon 135mm f/2.  Oh, wait..... :o
Oh well, at least Canon gave us the ratebutton and the mode dial lock. :)

I'm not following here.

Respond to what? The D800?

EOS Bodies / Re: 5D3 and things that could be improved just a little.
« on: April 04, 2012, 04:17:29 PM »
What about the truly important things that could / should be improved a lot, from the start?

Like giving us a sensor with improved DR capabilities?

I'd also like spot metering to be linked to selected AF point.

Something to wish for in the MK IV, I guess.

EOS Bodies / Re: Canon Prepping a High MP Killer?
« on: March 28, 2012, 11:22:45 PM »
I'm not sure what the image quality will be like though
I'm not a fan of the 18MP APS-C IQ and after 4 years
the 5Dmk3 shows no improvement at ISO 100 over the 5Dmk2
(obviously high iso has stepped up though)
You are right.

A high MP "killer" from Canon, won't kill anything, if they dont give it a brand new and highly improved sensor. Higher IQ, more detail and a 2 - 3 stop improvement in DR should do it! Canon really needs to start competing with Nikon's (Sony's) Exmore sensor.

Wrong answer - there's a sub forum for Third Parrty Manufacturers, and this post clearly belongs there. blablablabla and blabla.
Hello there obvious fanboy. It is just too bad that the karma system is gone. You really need some smiting!

Now shut your pie hole and accept that people wish to talk and discuss about the D800, right here on the EOS board. After all, Canons new dinkytoy (5D2.5) got beaten pretty badly by Nikon's new supercamera, so it is only natural that people want to talk about it.

No offence and have a nice day.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: Another 5D3 ISO comparison
« on: March 27, 2012, 06:03:06 AM »
As many others already pointed out: Whatever improvements Canon did with the 5D3, they forgot to improve the sensor. The most important element of a camera.

255
I believe it will be almost a stripped down version of the 5D III for studio/landscape.
Well, then it will be very important that the camera can produce a wide amount of DR. Preferably as good as the D800 DR.

I dont think Canon has the tech for this right now.
