EOS Bodies / Re: Do you have a 4K display?
« on: January 09, 2014, 03:54:04 PM »
I got myself the Panasonic 65 inch 4K TV because it has a 4k Player included and it has a displayport 4k 60p input.  It does fit perfect to my 1D C and I don´t want to miss 4k.

I just hope they will put this into the 1D C soon too. I hope I don´t have to wait too long before I can send it in for the update.
Sadly with 1D C you can´t download and install it yourself.

EOS Bodies / Re: Why no crop mode on 5d mkiii 1dx
« on: May 05, 2013, 02:15:14 PM »
Hi Pete,

if you really need it so bad there is only one solution to get it. Buy a 1D C .
I got mine last week and don´t regred it and it gives you 1,3 crop for 4k and 1,5 crop for Super35 mode.
with the 1,3 crop on 4k you can feel free to crop it down to 1080P in CS6. this should be enough cropping factor.
And this with a good video quality and C-Log features. If you are after Video this will be the way to go and I don´t think Canon will bring anything close in the next year for less money because of the lack of competionion.

That´s the thing with Canon, they know what they got and they know what the can charge the coustomers for it.
The same with the lenses in the past 2 years, they get more expensive but if I have a look at my 600 II compared to Nikon I can see why.

And if you really need this cheaper than the 1D C go and buy a Nikon with a few lenses like a lot of people do.
They got 2 Systems at home. For me it was cheaper to pay more for the body and get additional the EF 8-15 to keep my wide angle with the crops.

EOS Bodies - For Video / Re: Canon 5D Mark iii HDMI Clean Output?
« on: May 03, 2013, 07:50:05 AM »
But the C-Line is a total different quality. I have the 5D III and like it a lot and use it on my Tiffen Merlin 2 from time to time. But I got my 1D C this week and I can only say the quality of the movies is something I haven´t got before. I filmed parrots with 600mm II lens and 2x III in 4K and Super 35.
That gives me 1200mm *1,3 crop = 1560mm and I can crop the picture down to 1080P and get about 3120mm focal lenght or with the Super35 mode 1800mm because of 1,5 crop . It´s just perfect. Doesn´t really fit on my Merlin anymore but I don´t regred spending the extra Money. And I have to say the clean output is not really needed, the quality will only get better with RAW. But it´s nice to be able to connect a Ninja and get the Zebra and Focus peaking. and a backup of your recorded image in a good quality.

Sorry got my new 840 PRO SSD and had to reinstall my system to getting closer to keep up with the 4k files.

And it looks like I don´t have good news for you. see pic

Hi all,
just got it today with 25P firmware already installed. see pics at http://www.canonrumors.com/forum/index.php?topic=14549.0

Hi all,
got my 1D C today in Germany and just started it for the first time and I see I have Firmware 1.1.9 installed and I can choose 4K with 24P and 25P. Sadly no 720 with 120P, but we knew this before.

If you like me to check for any features you are missing let me know and I try to have a look if I can find them in the new version.

Thanks neuro, that´s sad I thought it might have a higher optical quality and deliver a higher resolution with a nice low DOF .

Lenses / Canon Cinema CN-E lenses compared to Canon EF
« on: April 06, 2013, 03:40:14 PM »
I haven´t found anything about the new lenses yet compared to the Canon EF lenses.
Had anyone a chance to play with one, make some photo or video shots and compare them to the well know lenses.
Reason for me to look into it, is that I´m going to Order myself a 1D C instead of the X and give my wife my 5D III.
Only intrested in the lenses Canon Cinema CN-E 24mm T1.5/ Canon Cinema CN-E 50mm T1.3 or Canon Cinema CN-E 85mm T1.3.

Lenses / Re: Which Gitzo: GT3532LS or GT3542LS?
« on: February 06, 2013, 12:05:03 PM »
I got the same issue. I had two Feisol and were not happy with them when I had the 5D III and 600 II on it.
For all the other lenses they were OK, small and just a little over 1,1 Kg nice for traveling.
I sold them and got the GT3542LS. I don´t regret it. It´s a very good build quality with some nice features.
And it`s a solid build. I got my self additional the 75 mm half bowl. So I have never to level my legs again.
Both of them are very good, and I took the "4" because it´s get´s smaller in my travel bag with no lost stability. And with the quick locking mechanism the setup does cost you only a few seconds more.
Sadly they are not very cheap, but it´s the same with lenses, you buy them only once every 10 years.
Only downside is if you need spare parts or send it in for repair it could take a while with Gitzo.

EOS Bodies - For Video / Video 5D III vs. 1DX
« on: February 03, 2013, 07:36:22 AM »
I currently have my 5D III and don´t know if I should get a second 5D III or a 1DX.
I haven´t found a lot of comparsions between them. And if the 1DX would be better in Video too this might give me the push to spend the extra money.
Did somebody here had a look what the 1DX might have as additional features or a better quality over a 5D III?
Thanks all for your comments

Lighting / Help for Speedlight MT-24 EX / 600EX-RT
« on: February 03, 2013, 07:31:08 AM »
I hope someone here knows the answer.
I currently have the 5D III with a 600EX-RT. For my next trip I´m thinking about lightning for macro photos.
My lens for this will be the 100L IS.
I have the RRS B91-QR of camera flash braket and was wondering if I could also use a second 600EX-RT to get a good macro lightning instead of getting a very expensive MT-24 EX just for this.
Pictures will be mosly flowers and maybe a few insects or other animals.
I could set the 600EX with a very wide zoom setting to give a good light and with the bracket I also can change the angle of them.
Good thing with two 600EX would be that I might get a second body ( not sure if I get a 1DX or a second 5D III ) and I could use it there.

Thanks for your suggestions and hopefully there is somebody that tried it and saw the difference in the pictures.

Lenses / Re: Telephoto choice for Australia

Hi kirispupis,
that´s a nice trip. my last trip to Queensland is not too long ago and if you don´t want to get very close pictures of shy wildlife in the wild you´ll be fine with the 70-200 with extenders. I might get also the 1,4 III
I have the same lens on my 5D III and the pictures are better and the AF is quicker with the 1,4 III.
I have the 2x III with me if I need the extra range but perfer the 1,4 III.
This year we do a trip from Perth via Tasmania to Sydney for birding and I got myself a 600 II for this trip and we don´t have any luggage issues. We try to fly Jetstar as much as possible because you get 10 KG of carry on luggage and you can choose how heavy your suitcase will be.
I´m traveling all the way from Germany and the only issue we have is, that they weight even your carry on when you leave in Australia and for us once again in Singapore ( but they don´t have Problems if its 1 KG more than 7 )

I have all my equipment in a Lowe Flipside 500AW, even the EF600 fits in there nicely. It´s the size that is allowed in Australia for carry on, they have different sizes then we in Europe or the US and not 55cm x 40cm x 20cm. It´s the perfect backpack for a holiday, I walk around with it the whole day without any issues.

And if your Handluggage has to get weighted put your raincoat or what ever you take on the plan in the back of your luggage cart and hide your 5D III with the 70-200 in it. This should lower you handluggage weight enough to get through and not pay extra. Or put it in your wifes backpack, like I do most of the time  ;D

I don´t know if you are into snorkeling or diving but they have a wunderful underwaterworld and it might be good to get a nice underwater camera like a D20 not to expensive and big but get´s you nice pictures where you won´t take your 5D III.

Have a nice trip and hopefully you might post a few nice landscape or wildlife pics here.
