Lenses / Tamron lenses --> annoying zoom ring
« on: July 18, 2014, 01:51:47 AM »
Hi guys,

i got my hands on some Tamron lenses recently, concrete the 24-70mm, the 70-300mm and the 70-200mm VC. And there is an issue, i want to talk about: the zoom ring. What's bothering me is the fact, that the zoom ring isn't close to the camera, it is switched with the focus ring and sits at the far end of the lens now. So i've got to stretch out my left arm way more to reach the zoom ring. I'm uncomfortable with it, because in my feeling it is much less stable than if i grab the zoom near the camera. Furthermore the focus ring sits so close next to the zoom ring, i nearly turned it too, when i grabed and turned the zoom ring.

I thing, the tamron lenses are totally interesting, but there issues are really bothering me.
What about you? Did you have any concerns about the arrangement of the rings on your tamron lenses, especially when you were coming from the canon counterpart? How did you deal with it? Or was it never disturbing for you?

Thanks for your answers.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Cheap sports camera
« on: August 15, 2013, 01:30:39 PM »
Hi guys,

I'm doing some sports photography. I love the 1Ds Mark2, which i possess, but 4 fps is way too little. So i'm looking for a replacement in sports photography. I like pro bodies, so i'm thinking about getting a used 1D Mark2 or a used 1Ds Mark2n. What do you think about that? I don't need high MPs, only a fast camera. Is it wasted money and i should go for the 7D? Or is it worth to give it a shot?

Thanks for your opinion

Lenses / Cheap telephoto lens
« on: July 17, 2013, 02:34:51 PM »
Hi guys,

i'm looking for a telezoom lens. Until i can afford the 70-200mm 2.8 II, i want to have solution to get past the waiting time. I'm doing sports photography, mainly outdoor soccer. Sometimes i wanna shoot some birds or wild stuff like... birds of prey or deers. In conclusion, there are 2 lenses in the race: the old Canon 70-300mm and the Tamron 70-300mm VC USD.
Which one to choose? The cheaper Tamron or the Canon with the better optics?
Which one is your favorite, because i'm having a hard time with this question.

PS: The Canon 70-200mm f4 is not in the race due to expensiveness.

PPS: 1Ds II and EOS 40D (don't know the american term)

Lenses / Tamron 70-200 VC USD - Zoom ring
« on: July 10, 2013, 10:04:51 AM »
Hi guys,
atm i'm looking for a 70-200mm-lens. And man, the new Canon 70-200mm 2.8 II is great, but expensive as well. So, i took a look at the Tamron 70-200mm... and was a little bit surprised about the zoom ring. It is dwarvish like on a 24-70mm-lens - compare it to the zoom ring of the canon version. And it is so far away from the camera body. The whole system of camera+lens feels somehow unbalanced.

What do you think about the zoom ring of the Tamron? It is as disturbing for you as for me? Or haven't you even determined it?

Lenses / Sport lens - low budget
« on: May 10, 2013, 05:39:09 AM »

i need an advice concerning low-budget-sportphotography.
I'm looking for an EF-tele-lens for my 1Ds2 - and i have no money.
My first thought was the 70-300mm-class.
Here my thoughts thereafter:
1.) the L-lens is out of my budget
2.) considering the 70-300mm for 300€/400$

3.+4.) Canon 70-300mm IS and Tamron 70-300mm VC
well, these lenses are definitely in the budget. But considering the imagequality HERE, well, i don't like it each at 300mm.

So, is there any other alternative? 300mm would be nice, and the 70-300mm is attractive. But the imagequality gives me a headscratch.

Thanks for your help.

Software & Accessories / [editing pictures] I can't live without...

... Clarity.
If i make modifications in Lightroom, THIS is my favourite tool. Especially black&white pictures and landscapes become way more depth thanks to this modification. I love it.

Which one is your all-time-favourite modification?
