Canon EOS 5D Mark III: AF worked and was fast with almost no hunting. Metering worked as expected.
Canon EOS 5D Mark II: AF worked and was reasonably fast with a little hunting. Metering worked as expected.
Canon EOS 7D: AF worked, but the camera had a hard time locking focus. Metering worked as expected.
Canon EOS Rebel T4i / 650D: AF worked with a little hunting. Metering worked as expected.

EOS Bodies / Re: What Ever Happened to the Major 5D3 Firmware Upgrade?
« on: July 20, 2012, 04:34:25 AM »
Another off-topic comments... sorry
The new version of EOS Utility includes the support for 7D firmware 2.0, but no mention of 5D3's firmware:-
"EOS Utility 2.11.4 Updater for Windows:
Supports EOS Kiss X6i / EOS REBEL T4i / EOS 650D, EOS 5D Mark III, EOS-1D X.
Supports EOS 7D Firmware Version 2.0.0. (For EOS 7D updated to Version 2.0.0, use EOS Utility 2.11.4 or later.)
The HDR (High Dynamic Range) function used during Remote Live View shooting has been added."

EOS Bodies / Re: 5D Mk III vs D800/E, is the 5D3 better at anything?
« on: June 28, 2012, 11:58:28 AM »The 5D3 is better at being more expensive.
It's cheaper than D800 when I bought it.

Lenses / Re: Canon EF 40mm f/2.8 STM Quick Review
« on: June 22, 2012, 02:52:02 AM »Please help me understand. If you don't intend to use this lens for video, is the STM really an advantage?
Not sure, but the reviews say it's quite quiet and very accurate and, though not a speed daemon, not annoyingly slow either. All in all, it sounds like a win, especially for something this cheap and small.QuoteAlso, why would you buy this lens and pay nearly twice the price for a slower lens than the 50mm f1.8?
Because it basically turns a 5D into everything I'd ever want in a mirrorless camera, something far superior to the Leica X2 / Fuji X100.QuoteAre the optics better?
By all accounts, the Shorty McForty is optically on a par with, if not actually superior to, the 24-70. You're basically getting good L glass in a package that's the size of a body cap and cheaper than a good circular polarizer.QuoteThe 10mm difference is important for a small sensor camera?
I don't think 64mm equivalent field of view is a very interesting perspective. I'm very excited about the field of view on full frame...42mm is the textbook normal focal length for the 135 format, and 40mm is close enough to that as makes no difference.QuoteSignificant weight
difference? Better balance with a rebel body?
Again, no clue what this'll be like on those dinky little APS-C toys. To repeat, I see the Shorty McForty mounted to my 5DIII as a Leica X2 killer. As in, stomp all over, kill crush destroy, mop the floor with Leica X2 killer.QuoteI find the 40mm focal length of marginal value over the 35mm.
I like 35 more than I like 50, but 35 does start to feel wide. I have a very strong hunch that I am going to very much like what the 40 feels like.
But I'll find out for sure this coming Wednesday....
Cheers,
b&
You're starting to convince me that I need this lens...

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: 5D MarkIII Low ISO performance in shadows
« on: June 21, 2012, 11:18:39 AM »
The noise seems quite bad even when the ACR settings are set to default. But since you enable HTP, I'll just wait until you upload some RAWs with HTP disabled, and ignore all the rude comments.
