EOS Bodies / Re: DPReview 5D3 review out
« on: May 23, 2012, 02:22:44 AM »
For video, it is known the D800 is sharper out of camera... However, the 5D3 takes better to post processing. More detail comes out of sharpening the softer 5D3 video then having it be sharper out of camera. That is what Chuck the Canon tech guy has said, at least.

That's also what 'The Camera Store - Nikon D800 vs. 5D Mark III Part 3' and Philip Bloom said.

When a thief finds a camera, does he/she really look closely to see if it has a red ring?

IMHO, 99% of people don't know what that "red ring" means...

unless it's a "red ring on a white lens"...  ;)

Reikan FoCal (Pro version) also comes with a 'Focus Consistency Test' that might be useful to you.

Let me blow your mind a little.

obviously these could not have been taken by a 5D3............. ::) ::) ::) here is my photostream so you can go look at the pictures at full size. I think LR4.1 RC certainly works better with Nikon.

For the Lightroom/ACR conversion, did you use Photoshop's highlight/shadow adjustment too or just Lightroom/ACR's exposure slider?

I have absolutely no idea how they'll cope next year with the Olympics.

PetaPixel posted this about the Olympics:

EOS Bodies / Re: 5D Mark III - Repair Procedure
« on: April 26, 2012, 10:24:57 AM »
I emailed Canon regarding the repair procedure of the affected 5D Mark III's.

This is what they replied:

"... But even for the unfixed cameras there will be a free of charge service offered at our service station to replace the light shield from 10th of may."

"According to the information I have it is a light shield between LCD-Illumination and Exposure sensor located at the prism unit."

Thanks.. I was wondering about this since their free service announcement...

Nice job!
That last one looks a little bit backlit, in the same situation my 7D would have blown out the background or just made the bird a mush of black. Did you use any +/- EV Comp while shooting, or recover details in PP? (or is the 5D3 metering just that good?)

I used Aperture Priority Mode, spot metering with +1/3 EV Comp and some regular PP.

If you're curious, I attached here a screen capture from DPP with only default settings.

EOS Bodies / Re: 5D Mark III NOT Getting Recalled?
« on: April 21, 2012, 02:51:48 AM »
To tell you the truth, my images have never looked better with the cap on, so no complaints here!

My "Lens-Cap-On" photos looks fantastic as well.  Dunno what all the fuss is about...

I'm on a tight budget.  :( So, my question is, has anybody tried any 3rd party lens cap before? How's the color and contrast? Any recommendation?

I got mine few weeks ago simply by off the shelf purchase.
I can't stand the agony of waiting for the the delivery to arrive.  ;D
