Software & Accessories / FocusTune for LensAlign
« on: October 25, 2012, 02:12:13 AM »
As a LensAlign customer, I've just received an e-mail from Michael Tapes Design announcing a new calibration software for use with LensAlign.
They offer a demo version that I'll try as soon I'll have a little free time.

The link is the following:

Any of you already try it? Any comments?

Software & Accessories / Chromatic aberration and LR4
« on: March 21, 2012, 03:17:04 AM »
I can't find in LR4 the good old chromatic aberration tool. Is there any new tool under different name or what? I found it very helpful and efficient, so I'm missing it, but I can't beleive they just cancelled it.
TIA

Canon General / Canon iMage Gateway moving...
« on: February 16, 2012, 01:05:02 AM »
Is any of you a Canon iMage Gateway user?
They increase the available space for the user albums and asked to the customer to move previous albums in the new ones. I have two accounts. I have started the procedure two days ago but still now the site states for both of them 'copy in progress'. I understand that they are moving a huge number of customers account, but now the timing is becoming suspected.
Is any of you experiencing the same thing?

Software & Accessories / Photoshop vs Paint Shop
« on: October 30, 2011, 03:18:10 PM »
I know that Adobe Photoshop is the standard software for Picture editing. By the way, I use since a long time Corel Paint Shop and I find it excellent, cheaper and with a simpler workspace. I tried many times Photoshop but I never found a task, among my needs, that Paint Shop can't perform.
I shoot only in RAW, then I process by Lightroom 3.5. Usually that's enough to get the  final .jpg that I need.
But, if I have to make massive cloning, or removing disturbing objects, or masking specific areas, I use with great satisfaction Paint Shop, that now is at X4 release.
Am I the only one using Paint Shop?

EOS Bodies / Microadjustment
« on: August 28, 2011, 12:17:33 PM »
I just got  back from Canon Service  my 1Ds Mk3 for a focal plane adjustment.
After that, as I use to do, I made a microadjustment of all my lenses.
During the classical 'moiré' procedure, I needed adjustment in a +3/+8 range.
For the first time, after the MA, I verified pedantically in the real world the results and I found that the microadjusted focus is ok in case of Automatic AF selection, but, if I select the AF central point, that is my usual modus operandi, the microadjusted focus is slightly worse than the plain one.
Any interpretation?

Landscape / Doubts on 1Ds AF.
« on: July 22, 2011, 01:39:13 PM »
Last week I've received my second hand 1Ds MkIII. I'm very happy about it since it is in very good condition. I started taking pictures in my usual way, focusing on the central sensor. Perfect focus and exposure.
Now, considered the sofisticated AF system of this camera, I started testing with AF but I found very difficult to get a sharp focus in that mode. I contacted the CPS and they told me to send them the camera for a tune up of the AF sensors. Is it any chance that I'm doing any mistake configuring the AF mode? Is it possible that I get a sharp focus with the central sensor and na out of focus with the other ones?
TIA

EOS Bodies / help from 1Ds MkIII owners!
« on: July 16, 2011, 02:48:40 AM »
I tried everything in the attempt to remove the extended system terminal on my 'new' 1Ds MkIII, without any result. Since it is made of plastic, no chance to try by hard tools, but the finger grip is not enough. Any trick? Must it removed with a anticlockwise rotation?
TIA

EOS Bodies / 1Ds MkIII vs 7D, as partner of my 5D MkII
« on: July 04, 2011, 11:35:10 AM »
I posted many times my disappointment against the 7D that I bought as a "backup-telephoto booster" for my 5D MkII, that I love hugely. Now I have the chance to trade the 7D plus 3900$ for a 1Ds MkIII in very good shape (6k shots). Being 1Ds MkIII project younger than four years, I wouldn't have any doubt, but I'm in great anguish at the idea to leave  3900$ when a 5D MkIII will come in a short time, and to carry around an extra pound to get performances very similar to those of a 5D MkII. Any advice? Thank you in advance...
