No, you are wrong!  It is not just a grip.  The life of the camera is hanging on this item.  Take a case of a wedding photographer who has 2 cameras suspended to the BlackRapid FastenR-3 hardware.  If the tripod socket is not able to carry the combined weight, then you can kiss your 5D3 and your lens goodbye!

Come on... do you really know any photographer use a serious alternative grip like Meike, Pixel, Vello, Phottix, etc who had such problem?

I'm sure Zeikos will come out with a $120 grip before too long, and then a bunch of chinese knockoffs will appear for $60 ea. But, you are complaining about the price of the grip for a $3500 body? Seriously?

$90  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

And to be honest, Grip is just that... a grip. An accessory that lets you have more battery life, extra controls for vertical shooting and better weight and ergonomics when you use heavier lenses.

Why spend so much on it?

I sent some questions to the Ebay seller and I have just received a lot of news about the grip  :) :) :) :)

Dear Cristian,

As you asked before some questions about the product material and if it is really waterproof and dustproof,  let me give you some "last minute" information regarding the Pixel Grip.

The Grip is made of ABS plastic.

---------------
A plastic of acrylonitrile-butadienestyrene; has good resistance to impact, heat, and chemicals; esp. used for piping.

Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS)

ABS plastic is what your Playstation 1 shell (or other console system plastic shell) is made out of. It’s also what most Gundams are made out of. ABS is much harder, and is typically smooth. You can add texture to it, but it’s typically not a very fine texture.

ABS is made from a combination of monomers made from propylene, ammonia, butane, and coal. The advantage is that it combines the strength and rigid properties, as well as the rubbery toughness (ABS can bend without snapping). ABS is by far the strongest plastic used for making figurines. So while PVC is soft and rubbery in resilience, ABS is tough and rigid.

----------------

The grip protection level is IP41

It is not "waterproof", you can't put it under water (as the camera) but it will resist an slightly rain.
The grip IS dustproof.

Another interesting info is: We will have a sample grip on our hands by the next monday, so we will be making a "hands on review" next week before the release date and will also upload a video review of it.

Market Release date has not changed: Jun/10th... but who knows, perhaps earlier pre-orderers would have a surprise ;)

If I could be for further help, don't hesitate to contact me.

Best Regards,

Augusto Rehm

I never had a 400 5.6 but I do use a 300 with 1.4x III and with 2x III

And let me tell you the Image Quality is really really good. For my own use, I do prefer the IS.

I'm waiting for a less expensive option.
I paid less than $60 for a non-Canon MK ll grip and it was just as good as the Canon version.

$350, no thanks.

jojo... I am sorry. I had to wait till may for this grip, I can wait one more month and get an alternative grip.

Yesterday I found an alternative chinese BG-E11 for $90 on pre-order. I bought it and cancelled my B&H order today.  The price worth the wait.

23
Well... my B&H order is cancelled. I will wait till the release day of this alternative grips.

I used a Vello grip on my 5D II and worked fine and as far as I understand Vello is the same brand as Vertax, so... why spend USD 350?

24
Look what i found looking around on Ebay  :)

For only $90 (free shipping) worth the wait. I pre ordered one and will cancel my BH order tomorow morning.

How does the 2x TC fare?

Stacking TC's? Does that work, or turn the images to mush?

Soft images, no AF with the 2x TC.

Yes... if you don't have a 1D camera you won't have AF.... but Soft Images??

These photos were taken with a 300mm F4L IS + 2X III (In manual focus) on an EOS 7D.

I usually use a carbon fiber monopod to help me. Let me tell you once you get used to manual focus you will find it easy.
