The light  energy and wavelength are the same regardless you are shooting with a Olympus or a Canon.

We're discussing 5D Mark III RAW files vs. 1DX RAW files are we not?

Yes, absolutely.  The D800 has better DR than both.   ::)

and the 1dx has better DR  than 5dmk3 due lower banding than 5dmk3 , and not due lower read out noise, so 5dmk3 can easily be better done, like the 6D sensor readout  with much lower banding than 5dmk3.
All in all, the 5dmk3 can archive about 11,5 stops DR and no visual banding as 6D if Canon was not so lazy
about 5dmk3  base iso properties.

sorry, its not like that, you can wish or believe what you want if that is important for you

It seems your the one ignoring all the white tele's.  ;) Its a free country.

and you live  in ?

A country where this saying may not be familiar with you.

it says more about you and your ignorance to other contrys
tell me, which contrys have more freedom that the Nordic contrys and  Germany, Holland etc  ,  about   woman's right to abort, homo marriage   and to religion freedom?
Go out and travel and discover the world
If it is US, I have lived there 1973-75. I love and hated it because of the double moral, double standard , simplified: you could not f@ck but smoke lot of pott and be high as rats and then  go to church every sunday , auch  not the life we are used to up here in the north Europe
are we done about "free country"

lot of Canon sport shooters went to Nikon when Canons keepers went down with the AF  problems in  the 1dmk3, the D3 was much better as  a sport camera  and Nikon  followed  up with D3s , compared to 1Dmk4. At the Olympic Games in Beijing there where many Canon shooters moving directly to Nikon because of the low keepers they got with 1Dmk3.
The lens  line  14-24 , 24-70, 70-200 and  200-400 Nikon lens was also a big argument to move over to Nikon at this time.  Nikon have increased the number of users from a few up to 50/50 in some events, Canon is still Nr1.

Funny, I CAN speak from experience.  I shot the Big Ten track meet this year, and out of all of the sports photogs there, there was ONE Nikon shooter.  Everyone else had a 1D Mark IV or 1Dx and ALL of them had a 400 f/2.8 for their primary lens.

there are a world l outside the USA , depending of event there are now 50/50 % , look at the latest London Olympic Games. IF sales was the only factor to count for quality  then Zeiss, Leica etc would be inferior in all respects
Im using both Canon and Nikon and I think I have more Canon gear then most of you have and I have access to everything from Canon and Nikon. Now Im testing a light zoom , the new 80-400VR together with D800, a couple of weeks ago I was testing all new super tele from Nikon and waiting for the new 200-400 lens from Canon.
In the mean time Im longing after a high resolution camera from Canon
Have a good day all Nikon and Canon users

Dude, Nikon lost like all the sport's shooter since the 90's. They've gained a few back with the d3, but It still canon haven on the sidelines. I was watching the spurs game and it was like 80% canon on the court sidelines.

Canon make's better super-teles than nikon, especially with a tele-converted combo.

dude, they are not few. from few to  40% and depending of the event more than 40% is not few
dude

I'd say its a 1 nikon to 3 canons in sports. Not that it really matters now since nikon users are migrating back to canon for the 1Dx.

sorry, its not like that, you can wish or believe what you want if that is important for you .I have just seen how big newspaper groups have switched to Nikon here in Europe  despite Canon 1DX, it depends more on how active the Canon or Nikon is in the country you live in.

What's a 3DX?  If Canon had released one, they'd be bragging about it, you can count on that.

No they can't brag about it ... It doesn't have sufficient DR ;)

Its a interesting notice, the d3x counts as a prof high priced camera in for example Japan, a status camera as Leica etc.

Neuro: you  use  the sales arguments  where Canon is greatest, I'm talking about camera brands on the basis that I use them, I use more cameras than you do (I think) Nikon, Canon, Leica, Hasselblad, Sinar, Linhhoff  etc in my work etc.)

Not at all, then you do not know about the ASIAN market including China.

Now who's talking sales?   ::)
well , as one example, in Asia, Japan the  3DX has been sold as a status camera, nothing Canon can brag about, do you still think  sales from a 18Mp are important factor for the audience here? Then I suggest a compact camera, easier, better tuned for average people to get  a straight good  JPG out from the camera

who do you think you are

That Mikael is the wrong question ... The right question is, who do you think YOU are?

Im a photographer with a large contact net, been co writer / test person of  a large number of articles about  darkroom equipment, scanners, digital cameras, color handling etc and  been invited as press member  at Photokina since early 1980.
Who are you?

Yeah, but the "this time" to which you're referring is now 5 years ago, and two camera generations back.

yes and, are there any problems with the lens line from Nikon , or D4 ?

aha , you are talking sales, and Im talking about QE , be in front of research, colors, DR, noise, etc , you have all parameters at DXO sensor ranking. If you are  tourist shooting you can buy a good compact camera, why bother about a SLR at all ?.
Toyota sales most cars in the world, Im not driving a Toyota but many are.I think there are better cars
How about you?

If Canon shall compete they must increase the QE up to Sony ,Toshibas level and bring down the read out noise, nothing you can  do easily with  Canon current sensor architecture.

Keep in mind 7D was designed for speed, not so much high ISO. I can see 7D II might have 61pts AF like 5D III and an increase in frame rate(maybe 10-fps). BUT NOT IN HIGH ISO or LOW LIGHT like 5D III, regardless what the new sensor might be.

Just the opposite, IMO.
It's much more likely that we'll see a big step up in image quality than a big step in features.
See my previous post.

Quote
Canon will not put 7D II in near 5D III  in term of high ISO/LOW LIGHT. 5D III is only 1yr old plus, it still have another 3-4yrs more before we seeing any rumors 5D 4.

I disagree.

The 5DIII needs to differentiate itself much better from both the 6D and the 7DII.
And the only way it can do that is by getting a high-quality ~30MP sensor.

So, I'm actually expecting that the 5DIII will get a replacement sooner than many expect.
Maybe as early as the spring of 2015.

I'll put my 25cents on the line that 7D II will not out perform 5D III in high ISO/low light.

Even Fuji & Sony are not capable to have their crop sensor out performs 5D III FF sensor yet.

Fuji use Sony sensor, they have no sensor fab left since their old ccd
