EOS Bodies / Re: Canon fixed 5DIII light leak with tape

"duct tape"?

I can feel the collective intelligence of the room dropping by the minute

Actually, it was pretty intelligent....for their bottom line. Imagine the cost of re-disigning hardware and then fixing all the current units. This was a very cost effective solution, and if you don't look under the hood, you can't even tell!

I am having one of those delivered to me today. If I see such issue, its going straight back for an exchange. I heard of decentering and other such quality issues with some copies of this lens, but nothing like you have described. Sounds like something is causing the aperture blade to be hesitant in opening and closing.

Non-Jersey residents can save tax when they preorder from places like Abes of Maine and Buydig. Buydig is saying that the 5D III ships in 10 days. Abes of Maine offers a $15.00 off coupon (code:LOYALTY15).

Lighting / Re: Softbox vs omni bounce
« on: March 08, 2012, 11:52:32 AM »
I have one of those Fotodiox mini softboxes. They are not rigid and don't hold their shape well. A little bit of wind outdoors with cause it to slant forward. You basically get what you pay for. I stopped using that and forked over some more cash for a lumiquest softbox and I've been very happy with it.
As for softboxes vs sto-fen diffuser outdoors, I'd suggest a softbox since you won't be bouncing off light. With a softbox, you'll get a bigger surface area and directional light.

If Image quality is important to you, go for the 5D II. If fast focus and frame rates are important, then go for the 7D.
Keep in mind that with the 7D, you'll get the same IQ as a Rebel T3i. The IQ of a FF 5D II is on a whole different level.

Lenses / Re: what is the most contrasty lens you have used????

^ I have found the 1.4 to have slightly more contrast and color saturation. Here's some sample shots I took to campare:

So how many of you paid $4000 (amazon's list price) for the 70-200mm II?

^  I don't know where amazon gets their "list price" from, but I'm guessing its not from this planet. I would not make any predictions on prices based on amazon's list price.

It comes from canon. Thats the actual price set by canon for it's MSRP. Just like the 24-70  posted above. The MSRP for both 24-70s are within $100 of each other. The 24-70 is very old ad that's why the prices are down so low. The same thing with the 70-200 mk ii. That's what canon gives as the MSRP.

Where are you getting this information from? You can check Canon's website for their MSRP.  http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/cameras/ef_lens_lineup

EOS Bodies / Re: 5D Split? 5D X & 5D Mark III [CR1]

Given the specs, I would definitely choose the 5D III over the 5D X. ISO performance is more important to me than megapixels.
