the mark II is a crazy good camera if you like to shoot with the center af point and when you are not interested in shooting sports only. the image quality (raw) is on a par with the mark III. i think it's a very good time to get started with fullframe

well done canon, well done! this lens is a great, cheap alternative to the very pricy IS II version. and now it is to be discontinued. what are they thinking? maybe "let's give tamron with their new 70-200 2.8 vc an even better chance to hit the market very successfully"?! well, i hope this will be the case.

this will be a great lens but the price... you even get the mighty 100mm 2.8 !L! lens for less. 50mm lenses have a simple construction and shouldn't be that pricy

a f/1.8 or f/2.0 version with the newest IS generation, great image and build quality and NO stm would be great.

maybe you should consider the upcoming tamron sp 2,8/70-200mm di vc usd. it will be the most compact and lightweight lens in it's class. with the great image stabilization from the tamron 24-70, fast ultrasonic motor and  a black finish it could be the perfect lens for you .
