I agree it needs to be send in. After the holidays.

Thanks again. I'll post again to let you all know how it turns out.

Since it will be going in to be checked out, let the lens repair folks remove it, they will have tools, experience with this sort of thing, etc.

You are in the wrong menu.  To "transfer" images from CF to SD you need to use the option "Image Copy" (under PLAY2- [the blue menu])
Image Transfer is for transfering images to a PC.

My 24-105 also has a hood that is not snug, I applied a small piece of black masking tape to the lens and it snugged up enough to stop rattling around.
It fixed the problem
It isn't terribly obvious
It is completely reversible.

We had no power all day yesterday while these guys worked.

Is that crane really reaching over a block of houses to put a pole in the next street? thats crazy! why didn't they just drive the crane down the other road?? ...

the "next street over" is actually railroad track, they did not have access

Serious question:  Have you had any bad experiences taking pictures of people working?  I imagine that some workers might object.

I shot these from our porch (front porch and back porch) not much they could say... struck up a conversation with the linesman in the yellow shirt, traded e-mail and I sent him a couple pics.

Just thought I'd contribute a couple...

Part of the problem is:
I have a Tamrac bag that I got more than 30 years ago, I've hauled it all over the country and halfway around the world, and it is still in very good shape.  Its not showing obvious wear and I'm not seeing a need to replace it, maybe in another 30 years...
