Looks funny with the 40mm lens

We NEED to see it on a 1DX.  8)

In the end one can trace back almost all the recent drama in these forums to the little, quite insignificant detail that the 5D3 is more expensive than the D800.

Nonsense. The best black frame / back of cap photographers do not need any lens to produce outstanding images with full 14 stops of DR.

EOS Bodies / Re: 5D Mk III vs D800/E, is the 5D3 better at anything?

Probably because its 3500$.

I think not. The usual crappy supply situation at Nikon is probably the one to blame. Coupled with a few defects on early batches (including batteries).

On flickr, for what it's worth, there are quite a bit more 5D3 users.

Speaking of which, I keep seeing from time to time the 200 1.8 being sold in the 3.5-4K range and my shutter finger is itching every single time. Does anyone have first hand experience with it? Is there a major reason to avoid it? Is there a big difference in IQ between it and the newer 200 2? I've read positive things about it but I'd like to know if I missed any negatives.

Sorry for the hijack.  :)

Well, one thing is for certain. The 5D3 appears to be much better at being in stock. :)
Nikon should really get their sh1t together with their supply chain.

Pricewatch Deals / Re: Canon EF 600 f/4L IS II in Stock?

Canon is just being greedy because they know there are fools who will buy this lens that don't really need it just to show off.

If there are "fools who will buy this lens that don't really need it just to show off" then Canon is not greedy at all. They just charge as much as they could get. It's called good business. Every single company does that.

It could possibly affect the used price of the MK I. Not saying that it will be cheaper after the MKII hits the street but perhaps it won't increase in price as much as it is expected with the release of a much more expensive replacement.

On the other hand, perhaps Canon will continue selling the MKI which could be interesting.

I don't know how the camera detects the presence of cards but if it is a mechanical switch then it is plausible that the camera tries to read the card from that slot until it hits the time out limit.

I imagine that what you are trying is such a rare case that it slipped pass QA.

and even more shocked when they discover good old vinyl sounds better than anything ;)
I think it's best to keep that can of worms closed. :)

Maybe we are going to see more high quality Instagram type processing in-camera in the near future?

I hope not. Instagram, as a collective is the biggest pile of visual crap that has seen the light of day since myspace. While there are many talented individuals who know how utilize it for gorgeous results, 99.9% is pure garbage and we really do not need anymore of it.

You can always do it manually, mounting the camera on a rail. Not as accurate as neuro's suggestion obviously, but good enough for a lot of situations.

Software & Accessories / Re: Best PC product for HDR

I second Oloneo. It's a terrific program and the only one I found it easy to do subtle HDRs with. Most other programs lean too much towards the exaggerated side of HDRs or do not provide easy fine tuning.

So...if Nikon gets the EF mount and Canon gets sensor tech they might as well just merge.

Now it would be interesting if Nikon pro photogs are more often hit by lightning or a crashing satellite when at work :-p

If that happens, I wonder if Nikon will issue a recall to rebadge the cameras.

How dare you insinuate that the D800 has drawbacks?
