Lenses / Re: Lenses for 1DC?

Good question about the new "cine" lenses - does the image circle cover full frame? My gut feeling, without thorough research is that they would, given their match to equivalent focal length/apeture specs. A "t" stop (transmission equivalent to "f" stop) and focal length would lead me to believe that Canon are using existing optical tech and therefore full frame coverage. I cannot be sure. They already have an 85mm t1.6 and now a 14mm t3.1. I'm sure others can answer.

I would be stoked with a 16mm f2.8 (or even f2.0) filterable prime! Screw the zoom part to save size and cost, and to give the best image quality. Already have a 17tse (sharp but not practically filterable) and 17-40 (slow and edge softness with light falloff). A small 16mm prime would be good in the surf too!

Venus, Orion, Jupiter, Sirius, Pleiades, etc
Amazing shot.  What lens did you use?
Used a 17mm tse at f4 for the stars and f7.1 for the foreground with brighter light. This is a crop from a panorama that I did that morning. The main flaw is  that the TSE is that sharp that stars are pin points and loose colour. I will try again with a fog filter on a different lens (note that the 17 tse doesn't accept filters - easily)

Cramond Causeway, a WW2 Anti-Submarine barrier off the coast of Edinburgh, Scotland

Looks like something the Ancients built in Stargate! I like the depth in the shot. HDR a bit much - where did the light come from? Great shot though. Might have to watch SG-1 now!

A few from Glacier NP

And a recent one from MD

Love the swirl in that last shot!

Totally agree with the previous post to. However, I find live view a bit cumbersome when dealing with people photos handheld. Live view on the fly is a technique to master for me. I just like to look through the viewfinder to aquire focus and framing - just so used to the centrepoint focus/recompose with the 5DII. Don't be afraid of taking multiple shots (up to 6 or 7 at 3fps for 5DII) as memory cards are cheap and you can pick the best frame. Apeture f9 is a way too closed apeture at iso12800. I would be targeting f2.0 to f2.8 for most stuff (lets more light in) at iso 1600 or less for printing. iso 6400/12800 is for facebook purposes only IMO. You were taking this pic from a long range, so you depth of field should cover focus on all subjects at f/2.8 or f/4.0 at worst - esp if all subjects lie close to the focus plane (multiple rows of people in a group shot may require f/5.6). All about trial and error. Different photographers have different styles and you will develop your own. Just have fun taking the picks and you will find what works for you!

I reckon 1/80s, F2.8, Iso 800 - pic is over exposed by 1.5 steps - just my opinion. Looks like you have used spot metering on this one. For group shots, I would use a more overall metering. Just reduce the exposure - it is at night time anyway. If you shot RAW, you can pull it back in post. I find it very difficult to freeze action with people at everything over 1/60s. Background might be ok, but people move! Even renders image stabilizing ineffective!

Here's a few of Bazza. Thought he was a ragdoll when he was a kitten, but as he's growing, I now think he's a Siamese.

No visible banding in that shot after pushing the shadows! lol. Nice work with the trees and the glow toward the horizon. Cheers

Great pano mate! How does it compare to the 5DII? Just a reference point for me. Thanks for the reply.

Looks like I have found an answer to my own question. Yes!!! with more functionality than I expected. From the Aquatech facebook page:
"Canon 5D MKIII conversion kits are now available direct through AquaTech for anyone using the CO-7 or DC5-V2 housings. Contact sales@aquatech.net to be directed to your nearest sales member."

I have the original housing for my 5DII. It has been awesome in the surf, no leaks - not a drop! And I've taken a few poundings with it too! I'm a very happy customer.
I'm thinking of getting the 5DIII and converting my 5DII to dedicated infrared. Will the 5DIII fit in the original 5DII housing? I don't care about button placement so much as I preset everything before I hit the water and I have the pistol grip to fire shots. The alignment of the review button would be the only thing I would like. Does anyone know how this would go?

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I discovered the live view thing soon after getting the 5DII. I have since avoided its use most of the time, but sometimes need it when aligning the polarizer over the ND400 filter for daytime long exposures. I stay clear of it after good focus is set for astro work. I have had a bit of success with IR daytime work at 2min iso400, but only via dark frame subtraction. Even though I plan to convert my current 5DII to IR, dark current noise is important to me with my work. I'm hoping the 5DIII is an improvement in this area.

EOS Bodies / Long exposure dark current noise - 5D III

We've all heard all about and measurabated DR, etc regarding the new gen FF cameras. I am a 5DII user with a lot of satisfying results. I am primarily a landscape photographer that shoots long exposures. I was hoping for a higher MP 5DIII, but with the new AF and much better AEB capabilities of this new cam, it is tempting for me to upgrade. Just a matter of $$$$. Even the 2/3 stop RAW iso increase is pretty aweseome - that's like iso5000 compareable to iso3200 on the 5DII.
I don't care much for all the tests (even the short exopure dark frame ones pushed 4 stops) just measured with 1/50s shutter speeds. I am interested in how is performs with say 1 to 5 minute exposures. There's not much around the net on this topic. Can anyone give me an insight to how the 5DIII handles long exposure dark current noise compared to the 5DII. If the news is good I just might crack it and get one. Thanks
