EOS Bodies / Re: differences in color between Mark ii and Mark iii?
« on: April 25, 2012, 02:05:04 AM »
Well is nobody seeing the difference in the images I posted? You can tell the difference even on the back of the camera, no need for raw conversion. As for these, they were taken as RAW.

I see the difference and it's obvious. Looks really strange for me. In order to judge I would need raw files. Looks like tint purple tint.

Do a simple test. Put camera in AV mode, meter mode-spot. Find a white wall or paper which is evenly lit. Fill the frame with the wall or paper. Take a photo. Look at histogram and camera settings. The histogram peek should be perfectly in center. I had 5d2 and it underexposed by 2/3 EV. Ridiculous. I was used to Nikon gear and such a simple test always gave me a histogram peek in center (internal light meter gave setting identical to Sekonic). My Canon's 5d2 histogram peek was 2/3 EV off center.

Lenses / Re: Lenses: 35L II & 85L III Next Up? [CR1]
« on: April 23, 2012, 06:16:46 PM »
with canon "new" policy, I suppose the "new" 35 II or 85L will be the same as the old one, but with higher price tag.

EOS Bodies / Re: 5D3 and Canon's Comeuppance
« on: April 22, 2012, 03:03:31 AM »
I haven't been the only one who has made the observation that Canon seems more intent upon maximizing profit and protecting market segments instead of making the most kick-ass camera that it can. There always seems to be something purposefully gimped or a decision that was made by the marketing department instead of the engineers. I own a 5D3 and a d800 and it really seems to me that the folks at Nikon really tried harder. I originally bought the d800 for a specific purpose but now I find myself using it with a nice prime that I also bought. I really don't get the feeling using it that anyone at Nikon said "we better not do X because it'll cut into our sales of Y." My only major complaint is that it has a slow FPS, but then again it's moving massive files around.

Using my 5D3 I don't get the impression that Canon tried as hard as it might have. It really reminds me of American car makers back in the day trying to focus as much as possible on maximizing profits and not making the best cars that it could. We all know how well that went.

So anyway, Canon. Try harder. You deserve all the sh*t people are giving you. The 5D3 is a solid machine, but it's not great. There were so many missed opportunities. You probably could have made something very similar in 2010 but didn't. Try to build the best stuff you can and price it aggressively. Thanks.

I have exactly the same feeling.

I own 5 canon lensed including 24-70, 70-200 II L and 135 L, 50 1.4 and 85 1.4 and to be honest after a lot of thinking I am probably going to switch. Nikon was my 1st camera, I owned 2 nikons and I prefer Nikon in general. After judgment of photos of 5d3 and d800 there is a strong evidence of Dxo's score adventage. The image quality of d800 is outstanding. I really regret that I came to canon camp once upon a time. I am not 100% sure if I switch, but If had a chance to start from scratch I would buy d800 for my studio and I am sure about it.

EOS Bodies / Re: The Big Megapixel Body in 2013?
« on: April 18, 2012, 11:20:10 PM »
Canon had few years to develop an improved sensor for 5d3. It is almost the same as 5d2 in major and important aspects, no big step forward in this regard. If canon is not able to develop a 22mp sensor with ie. better DR, personally I dont think they are able to catch a good quality at 40 mp. It seems there is a strong limitation for canon engineers otherwise they would deliver something really better at 22 mp. If it is possible to create a sensor with 36mp with a DR over 14ev it should be possible for 22 mp as well, isn't it?

EOS Bodies / Re: The Light Leak Issue
« on: April 10, 2012, 08:13:10 PM »
Please could you check metering in normal use? I had very annoying problem with 5D2 which underexposed by 2/3 stop all the time. I did a white(gray) wall test with all different mattering modes and histogram against white or gray card was off to the left by 2/3 stop. it's not normal behaviour as it should be set dor 18% gray, so the histogram peak should be perfectly  in center. Please check if  5d3 is also affected by this issue.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: 5d3 Meter underexposing
« on: April 10, 2012, 03:25:51 AM »
Had exactly the same problem. Befere i swtiched to canon i was i nikon user with d300 and d70. I got underexposed images by 2/3 with my 5d2 all the time. I put it against sekonic and did a white wall test as well. It was unaccteptable for me, so i sent it to service, however they reply that it was within canon tollerance. Uneblivable. If there is same issue with 5d3 it is really strange.

EOS Bodies / Re: Is 5DIII softer than 5DII?
« on: April 01, 2012, 02:22:45 PM »
The photo above taken with 5D3 looks like out of focus for me. IMHO it is not possible that there is such a difference. Unbelievable. I will rather wait for more opinions/tests before my purchase/switch. Hope that is back or front focus only, or software problem, however if you are a pro you are probable aware of this so...sensor placed badly...or really such a soft images-can't be. look at "compact disc player" sing- it's too soft in comparison to 5D2, the difference is very significant.

EOS Bodies / Re: Is 5DIII softer than 5DII?
« on: April 01, 2012, 12:13:42 PM »
Hmm...I have seen that softness from every image produced with 5D3, starting with official canon jpgs and other test images and images made by others, I saw it see it in jpgs as well as unporcessed raws. It must be something bad about this If so many people complain about the fact. I was used to 5d2 images viewed at 100% and more so I was disappointed. I think it's better to wait for saome tests, on the other hand, why there is a need for test if so many people share the same feeling. It is strange cause IQ should be better in general, also in terms of sharpness, I also read that AA filter is weaker in new 5D so what is wrong? I will wait for some reviews, as I am holding my finger on buy button from some days.

Brawo, brawo widze ze nowa piatka sobie radzi.

EOS Bodies / Re: 5DIII is SHARP!

I don't think it's crop

Lenses / Re: What lens are you patiently waiting for?
« on: March 28, 2012, 10:46:44 AM »
35 1.4 II or 1.8

50 1.4 II

16-35 or 14-24 (the most anticipated for me)

Unfortunately, I am afraid of price, having the canon's latest price policy in mind.

NICE. If thats pure raw, wo any tweaks with jpg conversion I am impressed.

EOS Bodies / Re: Hard Decision: 5d Mark III vs Nikon D800
« on: March 15, 2012, 09:29:03 AM »
Same problem and decision here, however I own 5 canon lens, without that I would go for Nikon, but have no idea what to do now. Saw samples (raw, jpg etc) I just feel I want Nikon but i am not sure if that is wise decision.
